TERRIBLE SALES PRACTICES - I feel I was robbed in my own home by Modern Group
BE CAREFUL OF ORDERING FROM MODERN.
You should know that the 40% off sale EXCLUDES white plantation shutters. Typical. The most popular product is EXCLUDED from their sale. They quoted me $24,000 for shutters for my lowset three bedroomed home eg 7 windows, then they went through all sorts of “sales strategies” to bring the price down to $12,000 if I agreed to signage in my front yard for 3 months. I made the mistake of paying a $1200 deposit which they wouldn’t return when I attempted to cancel only 45 MINUTES after the saleswoman left my home as I realised it was way overpriced compared to most other reputable company’s. $6-8,000 is the average quote I’ve had since then.
Modern Group refused to refund my deposit. One more thing If you want to take advantage of their credit facilities, you won’t get the sale price either. Shonky sales practices. BEWARE. I feel robbed.
I wish I’d checked their reviews first - I usually do 🤦♀️. If I had seen all the negative reviews, that “saleswoman” would never have put her stiletto heel over my doorstep. Please always check reviews FIRST - I’m learning the hard way.
Poor Form Indeed
I chose Modern Group because they are SA based and I am an ex-pat. Our blinds were installed just over 12 months ago. The rechargeable electric buttons no longer hold a charge, take 24hrs to recharge (minimum). There is a problem with one blind and Modern were quick to point out that accidental damage wasn't covered and it would cost several hundred dollars just to turn up and look at the broken one and several thousand if the blind itself needed replacing.
Like other reviews there were horrible pressure tactics by the salesman who rapidly assessed the depth of our pockets, and the discount was only valid at the time of the sales visit. I've pulled it apart myself to fix it but thus far haven't worked out how the internal motor switches from up to down. There might be a community page for that and Modern refused to provide the technical documents to help me fix it. The installer didn't line everything up neatly, blamed it on the structure. Drilled holes and didn't fill them. Lots of excuses, didn't clean up after themselves thoroughly. Over-priced, over-rated, poor form, well below expectations from a local company, consider spending elsewhere.
worst sales experience ever!
Worst experience we have ever had with a sales person!
Talk about a no obligation quote. Salesman tried everything under the sun to get us to sign and didn’t want to leave until we signed. Put a massive discount from their original well over priced quote. Started at 38k dropped down to 15k. Salesman was there for 2 hrs until we told him to leave. Would not give us time to think about it, offer was only valid right then and there.
Do not invite this company into your home.

Disrespectful Consultant
We called out Modern Group to give us a quote on shutters. A consultant came out, measured and ran us through the product. As my father was not present at the time, we requested that if possible they can come out again the day after just to show my father and we'd make a decision. It was agreed and everything seemed good.
The same consultant came out the next day however I had to attend something and could not be present. My parents don't have fluent English like I do, they are not as advanced as I am however for a second language, they can understand if spoken at a slower rate.
The rudeness of the consultant was extraordinary. Not only did he speak really fast, when my mother asked him for his name again, his response was "I've already told my name to your son" (said 3 times) and then proceeded to give his business card for her to read off. He then told my mother there would be no more questions and cut her off. Apparently he tried to call me multiple times that day however I was at a farm with no reception, so the consultant was huffing and puffing (most likely because he could not close the deal that day).
Now you may wonder how I found out about this, I found out from the painter at my house (we are undergoing major renovations before we move in). The painter was having a good laugh about it and when I confronted my mother, she told me her experience. On top of all of this, my mother told me to let it go, well I'm not.
If the consultant working for Modern Group thinks he can disrespect my parents under my roof and then quote me $20k for shutters and expect me give my business to them, he is seriously living in a fantasy land.
Furthermore, as this has left a bad taste in our mouths, we have family friends who are planning a major renovation that'll cost them upwards of $250k. They are not going to consider Modern Group either. They have as many windows as we do and if we assume they would be quoted the same amount, now the loss is potentially $40k.
Tell your consultants to be respectful amd patient, they are costing your business money.
It is not surprising that when I went through the reviews there seems to be a similar pattern.

Our blinds were installed last week by Paul who was very efficient and tidy plus certainly knows his job. Paul also cleaned up all the off cuts and blew the tiny bits into a pile. He is a very pleasant man and was happy to answer all our questions. Once the blinds were up Paul showed us how they worked. We are so pleased at the difference the blinds have made to the appearance of our home which now looks more up-to-date. The blinds will certainly keep the bedrooms much cooler making them far more pleasant rooms.

Agree with Jules Mills, for a company named ‘Modern’, they are anything but. After being informed my husband or significant other needed to be in attendance for the measure and quote appointment, I was flabbergasted. I have built my own home, run my own business and published numerous scientific articles, all without my ‘husband’s permission.’ I have never felt the need to leave a negative review for any business, but Modern please take heed of these suggestions to ‘modernise’ your marketing and sales policies - they are archaic - and we’re women, you know that we talk.

This company should be called Archaic Group since their methods of communication are something akin to high-pressured sales / direct marketing tactics from back in the 80's. I called to get a rough quote and ETA on one plantation shutter for my house, with the intention of doing the whole house, which every other company has happily been able to do. What I encountered was a woman speaking a thousand words a minute, who would not give me ANY information, (but needed all of mine & partner's), and only wanted to make an appointment for someone to come to my house and make sure my partner was also home, in order to see the product and basically make a deal. The entire interaction with her made me feel extremely uncomfortable and like I was being conned. If their product is as good as they claim, why is it so hard to get any basic information on the phone such as availability and a general estimate? Good products don't need a hard sell, as they sell by themselves. 'Modern' Group may want to revamp their sales communication strategies to align with the 21st Century or change their name. Needless to say I will not be doing any business with them.
Outrageously poor
Outrageously poor, time wasting, and disrespectful service.
After scheduling an on-site measure and taking half a day off work to meet the consultant, Steve, he demanded that my pregnant wife meets us on site or he'll leave. It is offensive and ridiculous that I can't make a decision on shutters without my wife (there is only 1 finish!). Steve walked away from me and had left before he even entered our property. I called management and spoke to another Steve, who appeared to be sorry but ultimately has ignored all further correspondence (both emails and calls) including a detailed email outlining the specifications of the 18 windows we wanted shutters for and which took significant effort to compile. Absolutely useless, rude, and have no respect for a customer's time. Modern group are awful.
Hello...... It's 2024
Was hoping to get a quote so left details. Within ten minutes received a call. Thought wow. Tried to make an appointment so I could get the quote. Unfortunately our quote would only be done if my husband was present which is hard with our circumstances. I then checked reviews and find that one star is the prominent view. Looks like I dodged a bullet.
Would give them no stars if I could!
This is the worst company to deal with!! Do not use! We have been waiting since November 2023 to have 2 outdoor shutters installed and keep getting excuse after excuse as to why it isn't done! Don't bother asking for your deposit back to go with a more reliable company, its not going to happen! So sick of the run-around!! Would definitely not recommend!!

Absolute con. Extremely expensive. Didn’t realise how expensive until I recent had other shutters installed. The guy has to meet you in person then does this doggy phone call to boss. Pretending they are giving you you best quote. It’s all an act and it’s to con you into signing there and then. I was had 😡😡😡😡 very angry. Only given two remotes for 3 windows. It’s a rip off. Extremely rude installers.

Last week Darren from Modern Groio completely restored my broken ugly 64 year old concrete tiled roof! I’ve lived in this house for 32 years and the embarrassment if I needed a tradie to get on my roof was immense.. I was never in a financial situation that I could afford a new roof. Each storm prediction was stressful and full of prayers for safety! Now my roof is so beautiful and looks like brand new!! The wonderful Darren worked like a Trojan on this big difficult job and I couldn’t be happier! Thanks Moden Group ~ especially Darren! Cheers Karen Marsland 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Very disappointed with them
Very disappointed with them. Had a visit to measure and quote shutters, but the sales strategy was aggressive. They offer you a price after several conversations with somebody on the phone, but you need to close the deal on the spot. When you say you need a quotation, they just leave and don't even leave a quote. I won't truste them at all
Failing to deliver to contract
As with other reviews, it was a pressure sale but it was in the right price range so we went ahead.
Paid the interim payments as requested but had delays the whole time regarding installation.
Eventually installed 4-5 weeks after the date we were told. But then there was some fitting problems and they had to go away to remake a flashing. They insisted...literally pressured me to pay for the entire job on the day even though it was not complete. Against my better judgement I paid and here we are....the job is not complete, apparently no-one has any idea about the job and they just can't seem to be able to work out what needs to be done.....that is after I was told in writing that the job has been sent to their manufacture and will be ready in 3-4 weeks back in April. This whole saga has been going on now for 6 months with no end in site. All to save around $300 from another installer. Avoid at all costs.
The worst and rudest company
The worst and rudest company I have EVER dealt with.
$20k for 2 days work. Had a quote done and paid the deposit there and then. Explained we were in talks with the bank to increase our mortgage so wouldn't be proceeding for approx. 3 months which we were told was fine. Couple of weeks later phone calls started saying we needed to book in our job. We explained we would have the funds available end of April and was told that would be fine and they are just organising the schedule and would be in touch to book in dates around end of April. Week later they call and say we will be there in 30 mins to clean the roof....no notice, no warning, just showed up. We explained we have a disabled mother in law living with us so need ample warning and we don't have the funds yet! Chris who we spoke to numerous times on the phone was SO rude and said we won't be able to do any work until you pay. He quickly changed his tune and apologised when we expressed how unhappy we were and wouldn't recommend the company and explained they have a few bad reviews so would like to change our opinions and cleaned the roof without payment. (3 days later we received the funds and phoned first thing to make 1st payment)
The SUB CONTRACTORS were lovely and apologised that this was happening and ensured next time we would have notice to organise things around them. Unfortunately this didn't happen and THREE times they showed up with no warning or notice expecting to do the work, even when it was raining! This was VERY frustrating, Modern and the Sub-contractors were blaming each other, shock.
In total the completed the work was done in 2 days and then demanded the money even though they knew they were to leave 15 tiles spare but didn't have any. So we refused until our tiles had been dropped off. They came today and I was happy to make payment and asked how much is owed I then overheard Chris on loud speaker say to the contractor 'they have the contract, they can look at what they owe' WOW(I was stood outside in my pjs at 7:30am) 'make sure you get receipt of payment from THOSE people' I sent the receipt but that wasn't good enough, they wanted a screenshot showing the payment had been paid. How disrespectful! My partner is at work and his since received 3 missed calls from them as the sub contractor gave me the wrong outstanding amount. NOT our fault but proceeded to tell me partner we have the contract, we know what we owe.
I certainly won't recommend this company and will never use them again. The clearly are so desperate for money and are just COWBOYS. Don't waste your money and go to a company that looks after you and cares. Don't make the same mistake we did.
Horrible Service. 6 months,still waiting
Have been waiting 6 months for a roof restoration after being told it would take 4-6 weeks. Still have no line of sight to when the works will be started. My emails go unanswered, and they are now dodging my calls. 2 emails to customer service with no response. We have a leaking roof and internal damage that is only getting worse.

Very expensive. Pushy sales strategy for shutters..
Wouldn't give a quote unless they came in person. Sales response spent a very long time and would only give the price at the end for blinds. Reasons we did not take the offer:
1. Sales strategy - decision had to me made now or never ( pressure) . Salesperson has to call boss got a price. Proce is only valid there and then.
2. Product only provided 5 years warranty. For a so called premium product, warranty is quite short.
3. Although the company exists for many years as a group, blinds are a relatively new product to them.
We did not see the value in the product to justify double the price of other suppliers.
