I can thoroughly recommend PayStream, having been with them a few times.
They explain everything clearly & simply, their communication is great and customer service absolutely top notch. If I ever have a question, I can contact them quickly/easily and always get the issue resolved at first point of contact.

I use PayStream as and umbrella company.

I am paid both my day rate and expenses via an agency.

The ‘salary’ payments have not been a problem, but I have had to FIGHT for the expenses. Bear in mind I have already had to go through my clients process, and they have technically been paid.

The claims process is cumbersome, complete individual journey’s postcode to post postcode, calculated automatically, so no way to amend if you have to take a detour due to road closures or to avoid traffic, or in my case a lot of short journeys visiting sites. Receipted expenses again individual claims, which is easy enough, but then bulk upload of receipts. I take pics of receipts so this was difficult, to create a word doc, then a pdf but still too big to upload.

I’ve experienced several weeks of delays to get expenses paid. Many still outstanding.

I spoke with Alex at Paystream today. He was very knowledgeable and patient on the call and went through things clearly, particularly as I am new to contracting processes. He was able to answer all my questions and I would highly recommend Alex’s sound advice and support.

Ben is genuinely one of the best account managers I’ve dealt with. He’s funny, ridiculously easy to get on with, and somehow manages to make dealing with work related problems actually enjoyable!

He’s also one of those people who will genuinely go out of his way to help. If there’s an issue with pay, Ben is straight on it. No chasing him a million times, and he doesn't ghost you after saying he'll look into it. Ben actually keeps you updated, and I've heard their customer care team is great.

He’s incredibly down to earth, kind hearted and just genuinely cares about the people he works with. He’s also really good at building proper relationships, rather than making you feel like just another name on a CRM.

The only downside is that he likes Overwatch, which I have chosen to overlook because nobody is perfect.

All jokes aside, Ben is an absolute asset to the company and one of those people who makes a genuinely positive difference. Couldn’t recommend him enough!!

Dreadful company to work with. Decided to process 2 payments in the same month and made me pay extra 2k for no reason what so ever.

Client services people are really nice to talk to, however as a company I would stay clear for sure.

The worker handled my query professionally and was very helpful throughout.

Simply a payment gateway. They dont serve the contractor, they serve the recruiter / agency. They continuously pay late and refuse to do anything about it despite being your legal employer. They need investigating thoroughly.

Response: They've been asked to help and they just refer you to contact other parts of the supply chain rather than them actually doing some work.

Further Update: The FCSA has requested that they create a an escalation process weeks ago. Clearly have no intention of actually doing it. These people are fundamentally dishonest.

If you're reading reviews because you're weighing up accountants, save yourself the time and go with PayStream. If Trustpilot allowed six stars, they'd have them from me — five doesn't quite cover it.

They've been my accounting partner since I set up my limited company, and I'm not sure I'd have got the business off the ground as smoothly without them. Starting out in IT contracting, the admin side is genuinely daunting: incorporation, what you can and can't claim, VAT, IR35, how to structure things so you're not storing up problems for later. PayStream took all of that on and explained it in plain English, never once making me feel I should have already known it.

The thing that will matter most to you day to day is responsiveness, and this is where they're exceptional. Questions rarely arrive at a convenient moment when you're contracting, and knowing you'll get a proper answer the same day rather than a holding email a week later takes an enormous weight off. I've never had to chase them.

What I value most, though, is that they've stood by me through the good times and the difficult ones. Business isn't a straight line, and there have been stretches where things were tight and uncertain. PayStream never treated me any differently — same care, same responsiveness, same willingness to talk it through and help me find a way forward. Plenty of firms are excellent when everything's going well. Far fewer are just as good when it isn't. That's the real test, and they passed it.

They've also gone well beyond the numbers, advising me on how best to run the business itself rather than simply filing what needed filing. That's the difference between an accountant and an actual partner.

The whole team has been brilliant, but my genuine thanks go to Alya. She has been absolutely outstanding from day one and is a huge part of why I'd never look elsewhere — patient, meticulous and always three steps ahead, spotting things before they become issues, explaining the reasoning rather than just the answer, and never once making a question feel like a silly one. She clearly cares about getting it right for the people she looks after, and it shows in everything she does. Alya, thank you — you've made running this business far easier than it had any right to be. If you end up working with her, you're in exceptionally good hands.

So whether you're setting up your first limited company or thinking about leaving a provider that isn't serving you well, I'd recommend PayStream without hesitation and twice over. Simply the best decision I made for my business.
