I have been using the Project EV…
I have been using the Project EV charger for a while now and I run into some issues with the charger where i cannot charge at all. Hence, I called them. Waiting time understandably long, but the customer service is top notch. I was served by Paul Kolawole. He is very knowledgeable, knows what he is advising inside out, spotted the issue straightaway when I told him what is happening and the issue was sorted in a few minutes.
Low quality charger, unreasonable warranty, other use and design issues
For info - I bought a new build house in Apr 2024 and an EV-IQ Pro 7 electric car charger was installed on the house when I bought it.
I got in touch with Project EV as my charger cable was stuck and I found the charger regularly tripping the fuse on the box resulting in the car charging for roughly an hour overnight (insufficient time for any serious range).
After going through several steps to release the cable, it became apparent a call out would be required, which was also relevant to check why the fuse was tripping so often. As the charger was installed in Feb 24 and I've only used it since Feb 25 I was disappointed to learn the charger was no longer under warranty to cover labour costs. The charger was installed on a new build I'd purchased but because the charger was manufactured in Nov 22 the 3 year parts and labour warranty only covered from 6 months after the manufacturing date (May 23 - May 26).
As the charger was only installed and used for a relatively short time I didn't want to pay for labour on the repairs (the bulk of the costs) as the product was evidently low quality anyway.
Overall I was disappointed that the product only worked for just over a year and more so that upon failing the company is barely responsible for repairs based on the time the charger spent in a box before installation. I could accept the warranty may have started before I technically bought the house, but it seems crazy that the warranty is purely based on manufacture. That means at least some of it's warranty period happened whilst it's in their warehouse? Which seems very strange to me.
I guess the main points are the charger didn't last very long before having problems and the warranty clock that includes the time Project EV owned the device is garbage. There are other issues so I'll just mention a few - low quality app, couldn't use the cheapest tariffs on Octopus, the design means removing the cable from the charger can graze your skin because it's so close to the wall.

Shambolic user experience of epic proportions
The user experience of Project EVs public site charge points is a shambolic mess of epic proportions. The reasons are numerous. Here are a few: (1) two apps with near identical names and logos each of which are incompatible with the other. Download the incorrect app and you receive an erroneous message that the "charger is bound by another user" in an empty car park (2) proceed to scan the on screen LED QR code as indicated and receive a message "charger not found" with no help as to what the charger ID number should look like (3) locate a non-illuminated secondary QR code on a panel on the side of the charge point, scan that, receive the same message, manually type the 4 digit code below it and breath a momentary sigh of relief that at last the charge point has been identified. (4) attempt to connect and start the charging process to find the app does not sync with Google Pay or other wallet apps or offer a photo card scan option. Proceed to manually enter physical card details under candle light (Android smart phone) (5) attempt to call helpline to message that it offers no out of working hours support to assist with navigating through this mess (6) inadequate night lighting at charge point. I hope ProjectEV reads this and passes it to its dev team to sort all these issues out with a prompt phone app update, sets up a 24hr support line using one of the many cost effective options available to businesses, and updates it's signage and lighting.

However I spoke to Oways from Project EV Support Team today and he was fantastic helping to resolve our problem. Apparently it needed a firmware update. He was so helpful and made my day. Fantastic tech support
We have a project EV charger (not installed by us but the house builders) which had an issue and stopped charging our car mid-charge. We phoned tech support and were put through to Uways who was fantastic, he sorted the problem very quickly and managed to get it working again. It needed a software update. We would definitely recommend their services.
