I accidentally made two duplicate reservations on the Bullet train in Japan. I wrote Rail Monsters and explained to them what happened and within an hour my two extra reservations were cancelled and my money refunded in full. No questions asked. No delay- Excellent service. I had an excellent experience booking my train from Mecca to Medina with this company! The reservation process was smooth, fast, and very user-friendly. Their customer service was amazing — they modified my ticket very quickly and without any additional fees, which I really appreciated. I was charged £94.19 for a Madinah to Makkah train ticket, which included an administrative and service markup that was excessive and unjustified. The total price represented a markup of nearly 50% over the base fare. The issue was not the existence of a service fee, but its predatory magnitude.
The Core Problem: A Breakdown of Excessive Charges
After escalating the issue and demanding a detailed financial breakdown, it was revealed that over 50% of the £34.82 service fee (approximately £20.80) was solely allocated to Transaction & Tax Fees and Currency Exchange Costs. This high surcharge for basic payment processing on a single ticket is, in my opinion, unacceptable and far above standard commercial rates, confirming the excessive nature of the fee.
The Intensity of the Dispute: Attempted Review Suppression
During this lengthy dispute, Rail Monsters flagged my initial, truthful negative review on Trustpilot for containing "defamatory content," temporarily hiding it. This felt like a deliberate attempt to suppress an honest customer complaint about their pricing model. Fortunately, Trustpilot assessed the content and restored the review, confirming it was not defamatory.
Resolution Update (October 2025): Full Refund Offered
After significant effort and detailed correspondence to resolve the financial dispute, the management team offered an "exceptional resolution," providing a full refund of the disputed £34.82 as a gesture of goodwill. Crucially, once the resolution was accepted, the refund was processed within 5 days.
Final Takeaway/Warning:
While the company ultimately provided a refund quickly after an agreement was reached, it took substantial, detailed effort to challenge a transparently excessive fee structure. Potential customers must be aware of the extremely high service fee markup and the fact that the company attempted to silence my initial honest assessment by flagging it as defamatory. Use this platform with caution and compare prices carefully.

Yes — we flagged your first review because you submitted two nearly identical reviews (and you contacted us from two different accounts), which violates Trustpilot’s own policy. Duplicate reviews are considered manipulative by most platforms, and we followed the recommendation of the Trustpilot system itself. That’s not “review suppression” — that’s maintaining integrity. 2 reviews from 1 account and both about the same company and both are 1 star reviews - it's says it all.
As for your claim of a “predatory” fee:
You used the ticket, agreed to the price at checkout, and benefited from the full support of a multilingual global service — including clear, timely replies and a detailed, case-by-case breakdown of costs. Despite all that, we still issued a refund as a gesture of goodwill, even though the ticket was used and fees were shown clearly in advance.
