Two service engineers called to my…

Two service engineers called to my mother’s house recently.
They were polite and professional.
They worked diligently and were happy to answer any questions.
The whole process was completed within 40 minutes.

Disorganised Admin Team

I requested a Stannah stair lift to be removed from one property and fitted to another. I was asked to pay the fee in advance which I did. A mutual date was set to do a survey on the new property. The engineer came and did the survey and arrange a fitting date. I then contacted Stannah to confirm all was ok and which point they said the first engineer was on holiday and they had to do the survey again. On the day of fitting the engineer went to the new property then realised he was at the wrong property. The actual fitting teams were very good however the actual admin team were slightly disorganised and did not call back when they promised to. I feel once they had the monies it became of low importance. Shame really as the actual stair lift is great and so are the engineers.

Convenient appointments

I was phoned to tell me my annual service was due. I was able to arrange for that service to be done the same day, as that was convenient for me.
The engineer was friendly and efficient. I have had my Stannah lift for five years, and have had no problems.

Within the last 17 months of purchase

Within the last 17 months I purchased a Stannah stairlift through an approved Stannah installer, who installed a straight stairlift with a swing arm for me. Unfortunately on the 17th month it developed a problem with the swing arm not retracting up. The installer came out and replaced the gas strut at a charge of £170 for the labour and the part. Two days later I had to call them out again for the same problem, as the faulty gas strut made the gearbox/clutch weak. Luckily I was not charged again for this visit and part. As this all happened within just 17 months of purchasing the lift, I contacted Stannah to express my disappointment in their product, but they weren't interested in offering me any backup or help, even though I told them that according to the WEB a gas Strut should last for 5 to 10 years or 10,000 to 30,000 cycles! I would have expected Stannah to have concerns that a product of theirs wasn't fit for purpose within the 17th month of purchase! The original installer was helpful in putting the problem right for me. Also I pointed out to Stannah that their website says that all Stannah lifts include a 2 year warranty and 2 yearly routine visits. But I was told that it only applies if the lift it purchased directly from them. So as a manufacturer and installer of Stairlifts I am not impressed with with Stannah or their customer service!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re really sorry to hear about the issues you’ve had with your stairlift, particularly so soon after installation. We appreciate how frustrating that must have been.

It’s good to hear that your installer was able to resolve the issue, but we recognise your concerns around the reliability of the component and the costs involved.

As you mentioned, Stannah stairlifts can be purchased either directly from us or via our network of approved independent distributors. While all Stannah products are built to the same standards, servicing, warranty cover and call-out arrangements are managed by the company you purchase from. This means the cover provided can differ from the package offered when buying directly from Stannah.

That said, we take feedback like this seriously. Components such as gas struts are rigorously tested, and issues like the one you’ve described are not typical. We’re sorry that, on this occasion, this has impacted your overall experience, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention.
