Friendly cleaner, unfriendly company culture

I booked a regular clean through Time For You Ealing in October 2025. The cleaner was lovely and did a great job, but my experience with the company itself wasn’t great.

While the formal terms were clear and handled correctly on paper, the communication felt slow, impersonal, and at times defensive. I had requested to communicate by email or WhatsApp rather than by phone — which they agreed to — but the tone still came across as inflexible and a bit dismissive.

The setup — separate payments and a quarterly management fee paid in advance — may suit some people, but combined with the communication style it gives quite a rigid and unfriendly impression. I fully understand the company’s policies; my concern is the way they’re communicated and enforced, which often feels transactional rather than service-focused.

Looking at other public replies, this seems to be a broader pattern. In one response from the Canterbury branch to a customer named Chris (writing on behalf of his elderly mother), the company publicly shared personal details and took an argumentative tone. Another, from the Belfast branch (Nov 2024), described a customer’s home and accused them of “unrealistic expectations.” My own experience was much milder, but seeing those exchanges reinforced my sense that there’s a wider cultural issue with how feedback is handled.

If the company replies here, I hope they’ll keep their response general and professional — I’ve shared only what’s relevant to my own experience and prefer that any private details from our correspondence are not discussed publicly.

The cleaner herself was excellent, but the management side would really benefit from a friendlier, more responsive, and customer-centred approach.

Stay Away: Misleading practices and illegal refusal to refund

My wife engaged Time For You Tunbridge Wells for domestic cleaning services in September 2025. As part of the booking, they charged a management fee of over £200. Less than 24 hours after requesting a booking online, we cancelled as our situation changed. No cleaner was ever assigned, and no cleaning service was provided.

Under UK consumer law, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 — you have a clear right to cancel within 14 days.

Instead of refunding us, the franchise owner, Caroline Kirby, replied claiming that “as per the contract … no refund is issued within the first quarter.” This is simply not true and is misleading. The law is clear: contractual small print cannot override statutory cancellation rights.

To make matters worse, their paperwork is designed in a way that removes consumer choice. The contract includes an “Option 1” (immediate start, waiving cooling-off rights) and “Option 2” (start after 14 days), but there was no point in the booking process where I was given that choice. The form they later emailed me shows “Option 1” already ticked, generated automatically after payment. That is not valid consent under consumer law.

This means not only were my rights ignored, but the company attempted to misrepresent the law by relying on a contract clause that does not apply. We are now escalating the matter via Citizens Advice, Trading Standards, and, if necessary, the county court to recover our money. What a waste of time.

My advice: avoid this company. Their business model appears to rest on holding onto management fees regardless of whether services are delivered, and they do not respect the cancellation rights you are entitled to by law.

I am sorry to read your review and we would like to clarify a few important points to ensure accuracy, especially in relation to contract terms and legislation.

We absolutely recognise and respect the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, which give all clients the right to cancel within 14 days.

Our terms are structured in line with these regulations, offering two options:

Option 1 – to begin services immediately, with cancellation rights still applying but with responsibility for any costs incurred up to the point of cancellation;

Option 2 – to begin services only after 14 days, with no costs due if cancelled within that period.

In your case, the booking form recorded Option 1 and we can show there is a clear process and exactly where this is displayed on the booking form if required.

This means you retained your cancellation rights but you agreed to be responsible for the costs up to that point f cancellation. You were under no obligation to select option 1 and could have selected option 2 if you had chosen to.

Importantly, the statement that “no refund is issued within the first quarter” was quoted in error by the local franchise owner. This was a mistake, not a policy, and we have addressed this to prevent it happening again and to ensure all business owners operate within the legal requirements.

As a gesture of goodwill, the local business owner also confirmed that your management fee has been refunded. We believe this was a fair resolution under the circumstances, and we regret that this was not reflected in your review.

At Time For You we take pride in being transparent and fair, and we are disappointed that your comments suggest otherwise. We remain committed to delivering a professional and trustworthy service, and we are sorry that your circumstances changed before we had the opportunity to show you the quality of service we provide to thousands of households across the UK.

Don't waste your time

Don't recommend this company at all. Worked for them in the passed. They were meant to help me and show me the right way to do my job. I got no help whatsoever. Shocking experience. The boss ring me once with in the long time frame that worked there which explains everything and she also ring me with complains that there was nothing to do with me. I wouldn't waste your time and effort for this company. Horrible experience

Seamless and professional

I use the East London Branch of Time For You, run by Sam and it has been a seamless experience. Sam is very responsive and is great at managing the cleaners. Be careful

Firstly, in my opinion, they treat their cleaners as if they own them and they are a business resource, not human beings. Our cleaner was brilliant, but unfortunately poorly treated by them.

Secondly, be very careful with this company and read the contract carefully.

I am not allowed to disclose what has been said to me by Time for You, including what action they have taken with other clients to enforce contracts, but one may infer how far they are willing to go based on other reviews.

Didn't show up the FIRST THREE TIMES!

We are extremely disappointed with this service. We made it VERY clear from the beginning that our ONLY requirement was punctuality and consistency. We both work from home so we have to work things around cleaners. Despite this, after a good first clean, the cleaner failed to turn up three times in a row, once due to 'diary confusion', once cancelling at the very last minute, and once simply not showing up at all (no communication). Each time we rearranged in good faith, only to be let down again. This level of unreliability is completely unacceptable, wasted our time, and showed zero respect for the client. We have cancelled our contract and would strongly caution anyone who values reliability to look elsewhere.

To be fair though, the office had good communication and refunded us quickly. We were asked kindly for a 'fourth chance', but come on... they were lucky to get even a second or a third chance. The only thing we wanted was a reliable service, and they fumbled the first visits. :(

I have reached out to your local office and the business owner Don Lyon is truly regretful that a catalogue of unfortunate events has led to a really poor experience which is not something which is strives for and an experience which should never have happened.

He has a Cleaning Manager, Szilvia, who deals with the day to day but Don will step in when occasionally something does not go to plan to try and take steps to make things right for his clients.

Sadly, in this case, he was not in the loop until l your patience had understandably run out and he believes he could have resolved the situation had I been given the opportunity earlier.

After being let down three times, it is understandable that you lost confidence and wanted to cancel and we can only say how sorry we are that it came to that point, because I know we had the potential to provide you with the reliable service you asked for.

Don has also asked that I add a personal note from him:

" I never take the loss of a client lightly, even after 12 years in this business, it still hurts. I am grateful that you acknowledged our communication and refunds were handled well, and I truly regret that we did not get the chance to restore your trust and deliver the consistency you deserved."
