Besides being a truly useful WordPress plugin to easily translate pages directly from the front-end in a very intuitive way, the support assistance is super helpful - which makes a big difference. Best way to automate WordPress translations
I had a bunch of issues setting it up (solved mostly with little PHP and SQL scripts written by ChatGPT), but I've seen competitors and they have way more issues. Comparing with them, this works like a charm.

Super Easy to Configure & Maintain
We have been using TranslatePress in one of our websites for the past few years. The best part of TranslatePress is that it's super easy to configure and maintain. Besides, site visitors can come and easily switch to their preferred language. All the content of the sites are automatically then translated which is really helpful if you have customers from different countries.
So, I would highly recommend everyone to use TranslatePress on their sites if they want to build a multilingual site quite easily.

Some shortcomings, but OK
As others mention, your translations magically disappears. Neither are the translations available in the plugins memory, but needs to be inserted manually again. This forces you to check your website regularly to see if everything is displaying correctly.
Their support is OK. Not always accommodating at first if you have a custom request, but they will usually try to assist you as best as they can.
After all an OK plugin with room for improvement in certain areas.

Regarding the issue of translations disappearing, please notice that any change of the original string will invalidate the front-end translation as they are directional. THis may be the case also here.
This is how our plugin works because we save each translation in the database. Every string has a corresponding translation. If you change the original string, basically, you create a new string that will need to be translated.
To facilitate translation retrieval we implemented the Translation Memory* feature.
For example, if you have a string in your default language that is translated and you go in and modify that string, the translations for it won't appear anymore at the front-end level but will continue to exist in wp_trp_* tables from your database. After, if you go to the translation interface and select that string, the Translation Memory feature will show you translation suggestions for that string (based on other strings that you have translated, even ones that don't appear anymore in the front-end; so most likely, you will see the older translation as the first suggestion).
*The translation memory is approximate, based on what strings are in the database. It's possible sometimes that doesn't work 100%.
However, we offer support now for editing in a way that if the changes on the original string do not exceed more than 5% of the entire string, the translations remain assigned to that string. This feature requires enabling the Automatic Translation Memory feature in TP Settings --> Advanced tab --> Miscellaneous options and is not applicable for translation blocks (in case those are edited, the translation is not kept).

Translatepress - A waste of money and time
I was using the free version of the plugin and it worked fine for a while on one of the websites I am managing.
After that, we decided to pay for the premium version. Then I translated the website into 3 new languages.
Months passed by, and everything worked fine, until one day, most of the translations magically disappeared.
We are talking about hundreds of different sentences and words throughout out whole website. 1/3 of all translations are still here, the rest missing.
Since the website is being managed only by 2 people, we are 100% sure no one ruined translations from our team.
When I contacted support about this, they couldn't help resolve the issue, and I was waiting every time for more than 1 week per reply.
This was such a disaster and probably the worst support team ever, and I wouldn't recommend this company or plugin to anyone.
We wasted our time, and money and lost the trust of our client.
If you decide to get it, have in mind, that you will eventually regret it. I bet all of their positive reviews are paid ones.

I'm really sorry to hear about your negative experience with our support system and the issues you've faced with the plugin. We take such matters seriously and appreciate the time you took to provide us this feedback.
I would like to clarify that our plugin saves every translation in a database which assigns a corresponding translation to each string. Should the original string be altered, a new string that necessitates translation is created, which may explain the disappearance of your translations.
However, we have a feature called Translation Memory that aims to assist in these situations. Basically, if you modified an already translated string, its translations, although they will no longer appear at the front-end of your website, will still be saved in your database. When you go to translate this modified string, our system will suggest translations based on previously translated strings, including those that are no longer visible on your site.
Additionally, please note that our system now supports minor editing. If changes to the original string do not exceed 5% of the entire string, its translations will remain intact. This feature is available in the Automatic Translation Memory feature which can be to activated in the TP Settings --> Advanced tab --> Miscellaneous options.
Understanding your frustration over our delay in providing these clarifications, we would appreciate if you reconsider your review based on this updated information in the ticket you open on our website, and our sincere intention to offer assistance. Rest assured that every customer's satisfaction is our priority and there was never any ill-intent in this situation.
