Not easy to make payments to investment platforms

I have had a triodos current account for several years. If you are using your current account to fund investments like stocks and shares or crypto, it is a very frustrating experience. Firstly, triodos does not appear on the list of banks of many investment platforms for instant transfers. You can do the faster payments which are almost always rejected for suspicious activity. You have to ring the bank to get it cleared. Their fraud detection is too sensitive - surely if i clear a payment to a website by calling triodos, then later make another payment to the same site it shouldn't be flagged again. 0% interest on current account is also poor.

Ethical but fifty years in the past

Where to start? I applied last Sunday for an account as I was bought in by their ethical stance, ideal I though and was prepared to transfer around four to five thousand into an account with them. On their website they say it takes two working days. However as of today I was getting nowhere with the same message on the app stating that "my account was being set up." So I rang Triodos, spoke to a very polite and helpful gentleman (hence the two stars), who proceeded to tell me they can't confirm my address and required me to post a bank statement to them or other such document. He said they sent me a letter on Monday to this effect, which is still not received. Why can't they send an email or a secure message? Plus I find it bizarre , I've lived where I am for 11 years, have several credit cards and other bank account while I'm also a company director for three companies, all listed on Companies House. I really can't understand why they can't confirm this without this archaic method of providing additional data and information. We all know the postal service is the least secure way to send personal information, unless you pay nearly £9 to use guaranteed next day delivery! As I said the two stars are for the gentlemen who assisted me over the telephone, so far Triodos make me feel as if I've got back to the 80s to bank.

I’ve been with Triodos Bank for several years and I’m very happy with it. Any queries I have had were answered quickly and effectively.
I work in the nature conservation sector and feel strongly about protecting the rights of people and nature, so It’s important to know that my money is invested in what I believe in.

Apple Pay now with the current account PLUS when having a little trouble getting it set-up I was able to use new Chat functionality in the mobile app where Samantha was super helpful in guiding me. What's not to love, honest, ethical banking, great mobile app, Apple Pay, great customer service. 💚

Have never had a problem. Customer service is excellent. And it all helps good causes. Cannot recommend them enough. There aren't many companies out there that truly care but they do.

I've had an account with Triodos for…

I've had an account with Triodos for some time now.
I like the fact they're ethical, but they lose stars for being behind on their technology at the expense of their customers.

Their technology offering has improved since I've been a customer but it really doesn't seem to compare to modern day banking, and I don't think the fact they're an ethical bank is sufficient reason for this, especially with the £3 a month fee.

The biggest annoyance for me at the moment is the slow faster payments. I've checked their website today and in fairness they have now updated it to say that faster payments are not immediate and are within 2 hours, but despite this setting of expectation, every single other bank I've used has faster payments that arrive immediately. This makes it frustrating when transferring payments between a few of my bank accounts as I regularly do when managing my finances.

Additionally, I've had one instance where my salary didn't arrive until 2PM on the due date, despite my employer paying it on time. Again, this is 'sticking within the industry limits of a BACS payment' but other banks exceed industry standard and the customers face the brunt of these delays. I believe they are limited in what they can do due to the fact their clearing account is with NatWest banking group.

Improvement to these annoyances will go a long way for Triodos.

Edit since Triodos response: Based on the response, I think Triodos have missed the point. Faster payments with Triodos are always within the two hour window in my experience, but are not immediate, unlike with other banks. This is whether or not payments are flagged for review. My salary I mentioned in my review is a different point, and was via BACS not via FP, with the delays not as the result of my payment being flagged, as Triodos has no sight of the money until your second batch run with NatWest group, at 2PM.

We're sorry to hear that you're having issues with payments. We use the faster payment system which means any transactions are usually sent or received within two hours. Occasionally our team will review a payment to safeguard customers' money held with us. Because of this, payments can take until the end of the following working day, but most UK payments will be in the destination account within two hours. Despite this, we have passed your feedback to the relevant teams for their information.

The reviews on here are false i opened…

The reviews on here are false i opened a account not even activated the card to use and i transferred £300 from my other account to this within two days they blocked the account asking me why am travelling to uae and oman this is a disgrace how they can do this and then changing £3 monthly i asked then to close the account and return my funds immediately still yet no actions have been done I personally recommend this disgraceful service to anybody who wants to open a bank account it’s like a scam

So far so good... with minor reservations!

I moved from a High Street bank to Triodos because i wanted to be with a more ethical bank. The move was simple and efficient, the app is easy to use and navigate and so far no real issues with the service.
However, a couple of things:
1. Unlike other banking apps, there's no way to view upcoming direct debits on my current account (only standing orders). I used to find this really useful with my previous bank when budgeting and tracking payments through the month.
2. This weekend (I'm writing this on Sunday)there was a warning that due to 'essential maintenance' payments would be delayed. I think it said until 2.30pm yesterday. But the message is no longer there, and I have 6 payment that should have gone out but are still just showing as 'reservation'. (One of those was a birthday gift for a friend yesterday).
And there's no one at Triodos I can contact at weekends...

With regard to your payments appearing as reserved, it is standard practice for our card payments to appear as reserved when they are made at the weekend, and so this may provide explanation as to why they were still on hold after the maintenance had been completed. We apologise for any trouble this may have caused.

First rate customer service

Excellent customer service, which actually felt like talking to a person. No script - just an actual conversation about the problem I was experiencing in accessing the app on my phone after a factory restore, and what could be done to help. Patient, helpful, professional and friendly. Would definitely recommend.
