I bought a car with a gold Dekra sticker, which meant it would pass a roadworthy test without fuss. It failed on an oil leak, which We Buy Cars claimed was a wear and tear "oil sweat" in their report. Under advice from Dekra, I took the car to a carwash for an undercarriage clean and back to Dekra after 2 days. Dekra then reported that it had a significant oil leak and required repairs before it would pass the test. I spent thousands of rands to replace the crank seal at a professional service centre and once again took it back to Dekra, where it finally passed the roadworthy test. When I approached We Buy Cars and produced the repair invoice, they replied that it wasn't a big repair issue and that the car was now fine, so it was all good. That's not the point! They were deceitful about the true condition of the vehicle and failed to take responsibility for their dishonesty. They were helpful and friendly, until the car was bought. My advice is that you take any vehicle you're interested in to a certified or trusted mechanic before purchasing it. Or find another dealership. Be alert!!!

We buy cars is a bunch of liars and are completely incompetent.

Lied about a car condition, they were informed about it, went thru the steps they requested, approved a refund and still funds dont get paid.

The vehicle is back on the floor for sale, but they can't process the refund.

Absolutely NEVER in my life will support them again.

Bought a Land Rover Discovery with a very nice platinum sticker on - from JHB south and drove it for less than 3 months. Got stuck on the side of the road because of a turbo bust and other mechanical issues on the engine. I found myself without a car for a whole month - decided to cancel the deal as it was still within 3 months of no assistance from them -they were totally ignoring me. I had to go to one of their branches near me and made a scene! The extended warranty had not even kicked in and the costs were way higher than what I was covered for. These guys are not accessible - do not respond and they have such bad attitude towards their clients. My mechanical issues went over R140k and I had to cancel the deal. Someone very close to me is also sitting with a similar issue - a car that requires mechanical attention of over R100k within less than 3 months after purchasing the vehicle. The attitude and lack of response they have given him - its appalling!! John Wilkinson - needs to work on his stinking attitude! You can't treat your customers like they are some peace of something...

Sold my car to Webuycars in December and paid for my registration number to be removed and put on a certificate. Bought a new car and was surprised when they told me after several days of attempting to register it, that my number was still on my old car!
Still waiting to hear from Webuycars when my number will become available. Much unnecessary stress, especially when you pay extra for this service.

I bought a 2012 Jeep Cherokee from WBC Dome branch (first mistake) through an auction without test driving the car (second big mistake), as I put faith in the Gold Dekra report that stated that the gearbox and suspension, amongst others, were in "very good condition" (third mistake). The service I received from the Dome branch was quite good, until I paid for the car that is. After the payment was cleared, I could not get hold of the sales agent to arrange for the delivery of the car from Jhb to Cape Town. Long story short, I took possession of the car 55 days after I paid for it.

If the nightmare ended there, I probably would not have gone through the effort of writing this review, but unfortunately, much more disappointment was to follow. After the ridiculously long wait and all the hassle to arrange for delivery, I finally went to pick up the car from the Richmond branch in Cape Town. It took me all of 2 minutes to realise something is seriously wrong with both the gearbox and suspension. I immediately logged a Compliant with WeBuyCars upon arriving home, and then gave them a call. I was told that I need to take the car to an approved workshop to get a quote for fixing the issues with the gearbox and suspension, and that I will have to pay the workshop for the quote myself.

I clearly had no choice in the matter, so I took the car to a workshop to quote me on fixing the issues. They quoted me on the 1) suspension (R30k) and 2) fixing numerous other problems with the car which I was not aware of (R18k). Unfortunately they could not give me a quote for fixing the gearbox as it requires specialist knowledge, but they confirmed that something is wrong with it and a broad estimate was between R30k - R80k. By that point I have heard enough, R48k (excluding the gearbox) to fix issues with a car that I just bought is not worth it, so I requested WBC to cancel the transaction entirely. In the request I stated clearly that I logged the complaint immediately after picking the car up from WBC (i.e. these issues could not have occurred while in my possession) and that the Dekra report clearly stated that both the gearbox and suspension was in good working order. WBC declined to cancel the transaction as they stated that it's a category B vehicle and referred to the contract I signed which does not give me any protection under the Consumer Protection Act. This begs the question: why then did they ask for a quote to fix the car if they never had the intention of doing it!? The result was that I was left with a car that was unsafe to drive, despite a Gold Dekra report from WBC

It is only after buying the car that I noticed all the negative reviews about the company and it's terrible ethics in online blogs by people that had a similar experience. The workshop that I took my car to also told me some horrendous stories of similar situations with other clients - buying a car with a glowing Dekra report only to realise after driving it for a few weeks that it's condition is way worse than expected. They said it's a constant theme with WBC cars.

Buying a car from WeBuyCars has been one of the most disastrous financial decisions I have ever made. I absolutely have to take some of the blame as I should have driven the car before buying it, and done proper research online about WBC. Had I done either, I would never have been such a terrible mistake. I implore anyone thinking of buying a car from WBC to seriously reconsider it, and to not place ANY faith in the Dekra reports.

We bought a beautiful car on finance 5 months ago. The experience has been terrible. We waited for the natis registration and license for 3 month with no feedback. Eventually I managed to get hold of someone and found out nothing had been done since we bought the car and now the roadworthy had lapsed. It's 5 months later and many phone calls and promises later and I still don't have my license and customer care keeps hanging up on me. Disgusting service they need to do better.

Never ever again.
Recently bought a Mazda CX5. From the 1st day it started giving trouble making funny noises. Called the sakes lady and had to bring the car in. They sent me to a Workshop to get s quotation, which I did and went back to the Germiston branch where I bought the car. Apparently they never gotten quotation and were going to call me back, that was 6 weeks ago, The sales lady didn't answer or respond to my msgs any more. I fixed the car because of the safety 5weeks down the line I decided to resell them the car to my suprise the car had depreciated with R40k in 5 weeks after I put in repairs and stuff and on top they penalize me for selling a with a disk that expires at the end of November. WTF.
I'm really 😡.
At the beginning they were good but now they becoming a shit show.

The Brackenfell branch of WBC has seriously tarnished the good name of the brand, in my opinion
The staff received my proof of address then registered the car at the wrong municipality.
I was told I was receiving an additional service book then learnt that the original had been taken from the car on the floor.. which means the car has no service history.
As mentioned, I bought a car from the Epping branch last year and enjoyed a more professional approach to customer service and after sales support.
Now let's see if they are going to register the car at the appropriate municipal area.

MISLEADING-BE CAREFUL OF SO CALLED CATEGORY A VEHICLE.

I recently bought a "Category A" vehicle from WeBuyCars. After test-driving it and completing all the necessary paperwork, I was just 2 km away from their premises when, while on a call finalizing my insurance, a warning light appeared indicating a driveshaft fault and the car's performance reduced. I pulled over, finished the call, restarted the car, and the warning light went off.

The next morning, I contacted the salesperson, who advised me to lodge a concern, which I did. When I brought the car to a service center for diagnostics, the drivetrain fault wasn’t detected, but they did find that a standard service and timing chain repair were needed. I shared the quote with WeBuyCars and waited for their response.

In the meantime, I continued driving, but the drivetrain warning light kept intermittently appearing and disappearing. Eventually, while driving on the freeway, another warning appeared indicating low pressure, and the engine completely shut down, requiring a tow to my home. I notified WeBuyCars by email.

Their response was that, since the initial diagnostic did not reveal any mechanical fault, they were unable to assist, claiming the issue was due to "wear and tear," which they said was my responsibility. I explained that the drivetrain fault is intermittent, which may have been why it wasn’t detected initially, but they maintained their position, suggesting I contact the ombudsman.

I've now spent an additional R20,000 trying to keep the car operational. Be cautious with so-called "Category A" vehicles from WeBuyCars—they can be unreliable with issues that are temporarily masked.

Hope this email finds you well, I bought a Nissan juke in Silverlakes we buy cars October 2024, I did test drive the car it was okay a day later it's started jerking I therefore called the Sales consultant who assisted me to notify him and he said there is nothing he can do I must log a complaint , which I did and took it to my family mechanic who told me there was a problem with the car ECM , he then cleared the errors but problem continued , the complaint department told me to take it to the RMI workshop and the guy did mention the samething , cleared the errors and I waited for complains department to give me feedback all they said was it's not mechanical issue there is nothing they can do while the car is still jerking, they said I must sell it back , I tried doing that however buyer from We Buy Cars 🚗 said he cannot buy the car from me people from we buy cars must fix the car as he came to my house and saw the fault. I don't know if this is how we buy cars group treat clients or its because they company received my hard earned money and all they have to say is there is nothing they can do mind you the car was a category A sticker and platinum , dekra passed and to my knowledge it is a non problematic car .... I am just being unfairly treated and something needs to be done it's really unethical behaviour to be treated like a nobody by such a big dealership. Please escalate this matter further . Atleast they must give me another car if not a refund cus they don't even want to fix the car .

Bought a boat from them in a not perfect condition some 2 years ago for a large sum of money but always wanted one of that specific brand. Now that we don't really use the boat try to sell it back to them after some upgrades and repairs that I did. Boat is to old, 1996 model so they don't want to buy it back. Fair enough, but today they are selling a 1987 model boat for almost the same amount of money I paid for the one I bought? They did not want to buy my old caravan with older than mine in stock at the time? Didn't want to buy my Ford B-max? They are only out to extort and rip people off these days. When you stand firm on a reasonable offer they walk away but their floors are filled with non-runners, cars with heavy oil leaks, water leaks, gearbox and engine problems, old caravans and other vehicles that they sell for exorbitant prices. Stay away from them, I have now learned my lesson to warn people about them and their dodgy deals.

5 years of fighting with them they purchased my vehicle they agreed to pay the arrears of the license, they never did, I am now unable to register my new vehicle due to this and they are refusing to pay it even though they as per the city of Cape Town illegally registered the vehicle in a different way and sold it they also refuse to return the short part of the payment

i BOUGHT A MOTOR BIKE FROM THEM AND WHEN I TOOK DELIVERY I NOTED IT HAD NO POWER. I TOOK IT TO SUZUKI WHO ON OPENING IT UP FOUND THE WRONG PARTS HAD BEEN FITTED AND CAUSED DAMAGE. THIS WAS HIDDEN FROM ME AND 'WE BUY CARS' HAS REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE REPAIR.

Don’t buy from them as they lie on the report of the condition of the engine and vehicle. Cost me more than double I paid and still not working as I don’t have funds to fix it.

Extremely rude and disrespectful. Feels like crooks..
