I guess I have to add our bad experience with Ally Bank to the seemingly growing list. My mother had an auto loan with Ally. She finished paying for her car. Ally Bank drafted the payment anyway. At first I was like, ok, that can happen; should be an easy fix. NOT!! We have talked to numerous people about getting the refund. Everyone is lying and saying "next week". We even had the agent at my mother's Bank that the draft came from to call and talk to a so called supervisor. Nobody has done anything. It's been 8 weeks since she made her final payment and 6 weeks since they took the extra draft. She even already has the title to the car and STILL no refund. I don't recommend Ally Bank at all! Do NOT do business with them. Ally Bank needs to do better!

Really why it's it there business who sent money if it's my account my money? Probably the worst banking institution I’ve ever dealt with. Between the high interest loans and the predatory tactics stupid customer service that I may add are brain dead. It’s to the point now even though I’ve paid 100% of my loan they still want more. Chevrolet dealerships should cut ties immediately I’ll never by a car from them or use they’re finance officer again.

Once again, it's the 1st of the month and I need to make a car payment and the website won't allow it. This has happened consistently for the last year. Absolute garbage site.

Imagine making a deposit and then receiving the following email, "This money is subject to an extended hold because we have confidential information that indicates that the check may not be paid." The check I deposited was from my mother. The check was drawn from a checking account which I am a co-owner and know there is more than enough to cover the check. To hold it is just a way for the bank to skirt the rules on availability of funds. My call to them was met with "the system flags it as such and there is nothing we can do about it". It is especially an affront when they claim "confidential information" when there is no doubt the money is there! I am beginning my search for a new bank now!

It is impossible to get anything resolved on the phone with Ally bank. I put in a request that I was told had to reviewed by management and was told to check back in a few days. I called back in a few days and was told to call back in a few days. I called back today and no one could help me. I was told management will get to it but there is no time frame. I was also told I could not be transferred to anyone else. How does one simple request take longer than 24 - 48 hours. It has been 10 days now and no resolution and no one else I can be transferred to. This is by far the worst company I have ever done business with. My lease ends in 7 months and I will never be going back to Ally.

Do not use this company under any circumstances. I wanted to pay off my car loan and they made it as difficult as possible. In the end I FedExd them a cashiers check which they received and then said they never got it. Now I have to cancel the check. They don’t take wire transfers. They’re a bank who won’t take a wire transfer. Then they said they need 14 business days to credit my account and another 14 business days to send the title.

Ally is dishonest, deceptive, and has terrible customer service. I was given Ally as the best option for financing my car at the dealership. You just take the best interest rate you get. I have many accounts with many different financial institutions and Ally is by FAR the most deceptive in the limited info they provide to the customer. Whether on the app or the website, you will still only get limited info like how much your payment is, when’s your next payment, how much of the loan has been paid and year to date on finance charges; THAT’S IT. I asked them through secure message for an amortization chart and they said they don’t provide that. I asked for a breakdown of all my previous payments and they refused. I asked for future payments and they refused. Essentially, if you want to calculate any specific details of the loan, YOU have to look at each monthly statement, chart that data yourself, and make the calculations yourself. I know they make money from my loan but a company that hides that, shouldn’t be trusted. I refinanced just to get out of a contract with scamming Ally. Reality check, they are NOT your “ally!”

Been with Ally about a decade, never had serious problems until recently. My account has been restricted multiple times and is currently fully frozen.
Called customer service repeatedly - everyone's rude or dismissive. It felt clear that they were just trying to get me to hang up when I'm telling them that the freeze is making me late on my mortgage and utility bills.
I think it was a large (but routine) transfer between my own accounts that triggered this. I had to file a CFPB complaint just to feel like someone might eventually care.
Online only banking sounds great until something goes wrong and there's nobody with actual authority to help you. Lesson learned.
Absolute Worst
This has been the absolute worst company to deal with for a lease. Their customer service is awful and I will never lease another vehicle through this company ever again!
Do not Bank with Ally
I banked with Ally for 2 years with a joint account with my husband, plus an Ally credit card. Our Autistic son also had a checking and savings with his disabilty income. Last summer, with no notice or reason they closed both our checking and savings. They left us penniless. We had over $8,000 in our checking and $13,000 in our savings. When I called to complain they offered no apology or reason. Thank God I had a credit of overpayment on a credit I could use until they mailed my checks for our checking and savings. We also had some security issues with Ally. There must be a lot of issues with them since we just got a notice that the Ally credit card sold to another company. We use Sofi now and the customer service, quick deposits, and all kinds of things are better with Sofi. Ally should be put out of business for closing accounts with a lot of money like this. This put undue stress on us.

We lease a Toyota through ally and at the end of the lease we bought it outright it took them over one year to give us back our escrow money and the title for the vehicle. I will never use them again. I went with my daughter a month ago. She wanted to buy a new car and Ally approved the loan and we denied it and made them go through somebody else I will never use them again spend hours on the phone only to be going around the horn to come back to the original person that I talk to nobody there knows how to do their job. Terrible experience if I could give them a half a star I wouldn’t even do that.

If you're shopping for an auto loan, do not let the dealer steer you to Ally Financial. I financed a brand-new 2025 Kia Telluride and the experience has been a complete operational breakdown from day one.
No welcome letter. No account number. No statement. No way to log in. No way to enroll in auto-pay. My first payment came due before Ally provided any of the basic information required to actually pay it. I am now past due on a loan that Ally never gave me the tools to pay on time.
Their customer service line is the worst I have dealt with from any major lender. Long holds, agents who can't or won't help, no callbacks, no escalation. Six days past due and still no resolution.
This is a regulated financial institution. Their entire job is to take in payments. They cannot do the one thing they exist to do. Filing a CFPB complaint and refinancing as soon as possible.

The absolute worst bank ever. I have never experienced what I have gone through with this bank in my life - from customer service to total loss dept. They sure want your money but yet won't provide you the paperwork to pay them. Guy ran a stop sign t-boning my car and this is what I deal with trying to get them paid.
Confused on how this is such a good bank
I've tried to make a spendings account ordered a debit card with it to try it out entered all the correct personal info and it's not even letting me make an account never explaining the reason for rejection. Very sad with the experience
