This company could improve by firing their executives and hiring people with some morals. They might even considering running their business in way that they don't burn their bridges. They don't realize that just because you can legally do something doesn't mean it's a moral and right thing to do. I, my wife, and everyone I'm telling are part of the legion of people who now realize that BMO is run by people who don't care who they hurt. We will now never do any kind of business with this company because it is run by people in whom no one can trust. I was on a card in my wife's name that BMO canceled 3/31/25 with the same lack of notification as hundreds of other reviewers. We were notified 4/15/25 with a letter dates 4/10/25. We've had major credit cards since the '80s have never had a card closed until now for any reason other than lack of use or discontinuation of the product. Each closure was preceded by ample notification.

I recently tried to use my BMO credit card for a purchase. 4 year account holder, never a late payment, $8000 limit, zero balance, and an 800+ FICO. Card was declined because customer service said the account was being closed per BMO policies and they do not need to inform the consumer?!! No reason given and according to customer service, no reason will be provided. Untrustworthy policies from a sub-par financial services provider. Stay away....frustration looms. There are far better banking options today than 3rd tier providers like BMO.

Following up my first review (10 days ago) where my BMO credit card was refused without warning at a grocery store with no explanation. I finally received a letter dated April 10th advising me that my account was closed March 31st (10 days after the fact) indicating that " I did not fit in with their requirements". Really! I've had the card since April 2022 (2 years)! I have never been late on a payment and have always paid off the balance in full. Maybe therein lies the problem they do not want you to pay in full they want you to pay those exorbitant interest rates so that's why you don't fit in with their plan. They even get to keep the rewards ($13 +) even though I have earned it through my purchases because "it does not meet the "threshold". (I wonder how many cancelled customers lost this) They get to keep that and to me it's like stealing. In my opinion I would not allow the Montreal Canada based BMO Harris Bank to operate in the United States due to their unethical operating practices.

I have been a BMO Harris customer for over 5 years. I their credit card and recently they closed my account without telling me. I received no warning that they were going to do this, and I have received no explanation as to why it was closed. I am a senior, I have an excellent credit score, and I always paid my credit card bill in full and on time. I have NEVER had any other credit card company drop me like what BMO did. They say that they value their customers and that they treat their customers with respect. What they did to me, without a notification, and without an explanation is not respectful. It left me having to search for another credit card, I had to make other quick arrangements for auto pay accounts that were being paid for thru that BMO credit card so that I would not be charged late fees. I would not recommend BMO to my worst enemy. I hope they get the results they are looking for by dropping good customers like me.

I think its very lousy on your part to cancel my credit card due to terms and conditions, whatever that means, and NOT NOTIFY your customers before hand that you are in fact closing a customer's account. Instead you let vendors get a decline notice when they attempt to charge on my good standing account and then let the customer scramble for alternative payments. This is a lousy business decision. I will make sure to spread the word through social media about your unscrupulous business practices.

I will await your letter explaining your business decision. Again, not notifying your customers BEFOREHAND, is really a big mistake and very lousy.

P.S. How hard is it to email a customer and let them know thirty days in advance? Also, letting a customer wait 30 minutes for a customer service rep via phone is lousy.

I have had a BMO Harris credit card for two years. I have never missed a payment. All of a sudden, out of the blue, they notified me that they were closing my account. There was no pre-warning or reason given. I had rewards still on the account and after I spent one hour on the phone waiting for a representative, they told me that these are forfeited and that there was no way that I could redeem them. I have never had something like this happen with any other card company.

If I could give zero I would. Been a customer with my CC for 30 years when it was M&I, they just cancelled for no reason and stated it was not up for negotiation. Thanks BMO for messing up my credit score as that card was one of my longest running cards with a large credit limit. Since you are Canadian owned, I’m guessing it’s because I’m In the US.

Received a letter today, April 15 . Letter sent April 10th. Account closed March 31! No warning, no email, text, no notice on the account, which still shows open online. I had some recurring utilities on this card that were charged on the 9th, and denied. No I was not in default, I use the card and pay regularly, excellent credit and sufficient income. I had a credit card through BMO Harris for over two years. I made every payment on time, and paid my balance in full every month. My credit scores on all 3 services were over 800, so my credit was excellent. And on March 31, my card was cancelled. When I asked them why, they said they can cancel my card at any time for no reason. So be careful about doing business with them, because they can pull the rug out from under you.

I just got a letter from BMO that they chose to close my account. I wonder if they know that people will not have money very soon to pay their debts. They used my account as an example. Well , they can go to he double hockey stick with my credit card.. And possibly now with my debt.

Would give 0 stars if I could. My credit card was closed on 3/31. I had no idea until I called yesterday for a declined purchase. The rep said I’m sorry to inform you your account has been closed, there is no reason and we can close your acct any time without reason (I understand this is the case with all credit cars). I was never late or even near my limit. Was told they mailed out letters on 4/11, when account was closed on 3/31. Was also told this happened to a lot of people.
I think it is retaliation to the tariff situation. I say Good riddance, will never do business with them again.

I was attracted to BMO Bank close to me for that very reason it was close. I opened an account and they had trouble transferring any more than a hundred bucks to open the account. I talked to my bank and they transferred $8,000 over there. I brought them a cashier's check for $10,000 from my bank. Got a letter from them telling me that Monday I would have those funds available to me. Then I get a phone call telling me they won't be available to me until sometime in mid April, this was closing time on Friday. I called an email to no avail with no answers.
In the meantime I get a letter saying someone tipped them off that the check may not clear. Checking with my bank it cleared on the 7th today is the 11th. They are still holding my check with no explanation.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Not only did they take payment for what I owed to stop repossession but they repossessed my car anyhow. Then to get it back I had to pay 10k or I'd lose it. That was Nov 2023. It's April 2025 and it's STILL on my credit and they refuse to send my title and proper documents saying I paid it off so the lien can be removed. They're all assholes in Repo dept. Managers are unqualified. Do not use them.

Closed my CC account without any notice. Been a customer since Oct 2022. Paid on time, never had a balance of more than $1K. Used it for gas, groceries, and subscriptions. Disgusting way to treat a customer.

Do NOT open a credit card with Bmo Harris Bank. They literally shut down my account with zero warning! When I still have thousands of dollars to use on my credit card, mind you I had JUST made payment 2 days before I tried doing a transaction, it was denied/declined, and when I call them up, they say “oh yeah, Bmo Harris has the right to close accounts without warning at any time for any reason.” And they never even gave me a reason! I would pass this company up 100% if I were you. Most Mickey Mouse operation run company I have ever come across in my lifetime of dealing with credit cards. Garbage company. It’s like pulling teeth to get anything done with these incompetents. Keep your money far away. It’s not even worth the bonus they’re offering.

The bank suddenly closed my credit account with no warning and will not explain. They claim they sent a letter a few days ago, but there are no alerts in my inbox in my acxount! I had been a customer for over 20 years with a bank they absorbed a few years ago. From my research, unusual behavior can trigger certain flags and banks can then decide to close the account immediately. The only strange behavior was I made a one-time, unusually large payment from a recent financial gift I received. This is the most idiotic response! And there was no option to discuss or appeal. I found out when I tried to pay for groceries. I will never do business with them and their unethical behaviors again.

Last week BMO put out a 24 page terms of agreement which, if an attorney read it to you, says that they can cancel your card at any time without giving you a reason. For 15 years we have used our Platinum Bmo Harris credit card to pay for most of our living expenses. We typically have a monthly credit card bill of about $1,300 and we always pay the entire balance and have never paid interest on the card. Today my card was declined at several stores. I called BMO (nightmare to contact them) and asked why my credit card was declined. I was told that the card was cancelled and, as per their 24 page statement of terms, they do not have to give me notice or reason for the cancellation. My theory is that it was cancelled because we have always paid on time and they have never made any interest off of us. We used their card, paid the bill in full each month and have cashed in a lot of Rewards points. My advice to you is that, if you pay your bills and don't accrue interest on your credit card - stay the hell away from BMO Harris!

I had a $18,000 credit card line of credit. I paid this off every month to a 0 balance. I found out today that BMO canceled my card due to the tariffs placed on them by the United States. Canada is the worst.
