no transparency in subscription reminders
My issue isn't that Checkmyfile hides the £14.99 monthly price - it doesn't. My issue is what happens at the end of the very short seven-day trial.
I wasn't sent a reminder shortly before the trial expired to say that £14.99 was about to be taken. I only dealt with the subscription once I noticed the payment.
What makes this particularly frustrating is that the Government is now introducing new subscription rules specifically designed to address this sort of situation. These will require businesses to send reminders before free or discounted trials end, helping to prevent people unintentionally rolling into paid subscriptions. The rules aren't in force yet, but to me it says quite a lot that this exact practice has been identified as something requiring greater consumer protection.
For something that automatically moves from free to paid after just seven days, I think a simple reminder beforehand would have been the fair and transparent thing to do.
I also find it disappointing from an FCA-regulated company, where I would have expected a particularly high standard of transparency and customer communication.
I've asked for the £14.99 to be refunded and for the matter to be treated as a formal complaint if they refuse. I'll update this review to reflect how they ultimately deal with it.

Easy, accessible & would recommend!
I was recommended Checkmyfile through a mortgage advisor. It was easy to sign up and took a couple of minutes to enter the information needed, I was then presented with my credit score, tips and advice to improve, and lots of other things related to my credit file.
The website was easy to navigate, it was bright and colourful which I personally found appealing, and the option to download your credit report was great. My report took around 5 minutes to generate and there were a lot of pages to go through! But everything was organised and explained clearly and it was very accessible.
I would recommend Checkmyfile, and if you aren’t 100% sure, there’s a free 7 day trial so you can try it out before committing to regular monthly payments.

Invaluable tool when applying for a mortgage. I was able to check my file and keep an eye on things during the purchase of my house. Worth activating once a twice a year to ensure no nasty surprises.

Great Accessibility Tool for Credit, UI could be improved
Customer service is absolutely incredible. Having one point of contact to reach out to CRAs on your behalf is not only easier, but also as a point of accessibility for those of us who may otherwise struggle otherwise to track many separate email chains.
I’m currently preparing to apply for a mortgage and ensuring all my credit reporting is accurate.
Something I would feed back to the check my file team is that the UI is annoying. The ‘combination view’ and switching between CRA’s under each lender is not user friendly. It’s not impossible, it’s just not user friendly. You fixed something that wasn’t broken from when I had check my file last year. I had some screenshots of older version of UI and it’s makes so much more sense from a user perspective.
All in all great - just annoying UI at some points but absolutely shouldn’t put anyone off.
Worth the ££ if you’re cleaning up your credit file and/or prepping for mortgage.
