This review reflects my personal experience.

I instructed National Motoring Lawyers for a drink driving matter and paid significant fees on the understanding I would receive specialist representation.

For my first hearing, I was represented by a duty solicitor acting on the firm’s behalf, which was not what I expected when instructing a private specialist firm.

In the lead-up to trial, communication was difficult and inconsistent. I struggled to obtain clear updates about case preparation and strategy.

The day before trial, I received a message stating two key witnesses were not attending and that the case would likely be adjourned or dismissed. This did not happen. The case proceeded and I received a 20-month disqualification and £420 fine.

On the day of trial, I did not feel that a clear defence strategy had been prepared or fully advanced on my behalf. Certain evidence, in my view, was not challenged as thoroughly as I had expected given the fees paid.

Following the outcome, I have been advised to pay further fees to pursue an appeal and upgrade service level.

I am raising a formal complaint and will be escalating matters to the Legal Ombudsman.

I encourage anyone considering instructing this firm to ask detailed questions about representation, preparation, and communication before proceeding.

I will be fighting to get my money back harder than they did for me in my case.

I was arrested for being over the drink drive limit 9 months ago. I contacted NML immediately and received a call from Laura Heywood. She was very reassuring and I am so glad I used NML.
Laura was my reviewing lawyer and I’m sure at times I drove her crazy with my panicking emails! She was great and answered all my queries in a timely fashion. Sue (my caseworker) who I dealt with directly - she put all the info together for Laura-) was an absolute delight to deal with, very compassionate in a highly stressful situation.
My court lawyer David Houldcroft assisted by his lovely wife Nikki were outstanding. Two of the most knowledgeable, experienced people you could hope for. I was a very anxious client and they both worked to put my mind at ease.
David is incredible- he 100% knows what he is doing - trust him and let him do his stuff. He told me what was going to happen- and it turned out exactly as he said! Case dismissed- after months of worry I have my life back.
If you are ever in this position- this is the team you want.

I honestly can’t fault the work at NML. I was arrested for DD with a breath reading of 55. From initial conversation with Sandra Cooper who has been extremely helpful throughout the whole process and replied to all my emails in a timely manner. A MASSIVE thank you to David Houldcroft, who made me feel at ease the whole time, was absolutely wonderful at answering all questions and managed to get the best outcome. I was looking at a hefty fine and a potential 16 month ban, however David managed to secure a 9 month ban and a smaller fine than i was expecting. I can’t fault his work and his commitment to his job as the weather on the day of court (snow) was terrible. Thank you David for the reassurance, support and knowledge. I would 100% recommend David to anybody who finds themselves in any tricky drink driving situations.

Case Dismissed!
When I contacted NML my first contact was Sandra Cooper who was incredible with me she was patient, helpful and took the time to fully understand the case. Also Susan who works closely with Sandra provided incredible help. I am really pleased with the service I’ve received from NML and would recommend them to anyone who is in the unfortunate position of requiring their services. Thanks Sandra you are a hero in our home.

Im so pleased that I picked National Motoring Lawyers. If I lost my driving license I would of lost everything and my case got dropped before I had to appear at trial. I couldn’t be more happier with the outcome and would definitely recommend! So happy.

Deal with these lot at your own peril. I had to keep calling the phone and forcing them to find me representation on court day. They sent one who knew nothing about the case, then on the last hearing, I finally got contact from a lawyer almost 2hrs after my case was due to be called. The results I’ll leave it here…..to them it’s about the money and not your case. If they had put enough effort in the cases like they do chasing the payments, maybe a 2 star will be worthy.
DO NOT GO TO THEM!!!!

Following my review, I was contacted last week by the accounts team and offered a waiver on an outstanding trial preparation charge. Good on them, and thanks to the team for listening to customer's grievances.

These guys have been absolutely amazing and I have had the biggest worry for a whole year of my life and national motoring lawyers have saved my license and my life I honestly could not recommend anyone better

I reached out to National Motor & Lawyers over the Christmas period when most other firms were closed. I was first contacted by Laura. She explained the process clearly and honestly from the start, without trying to make it sound easier than it is like some adverts do. She was upfront about both the positives and the challenges, which I really appreciated, and she showed genuine empathy throughout.

Later on, my case was handled by case worker Michael, who was also very supportive. The only thing I would mention is that the solicitors manage a lot of clients at the same time, so sometimes things can feel a little last minute, but it is clear they are doing their best to keep everything moving.

I also worked with Jake later on for the cost reclaims , and he has been absolutely brilliant, super clear, friendly, and quick to respond. He has made the final part of the process a lot less stressful.

Overall, I would recommend National Motoring Lawyers, especially if you take the time to do your own research and ask questions early on. Especially around the expected costs and experience of working with the experts they provide . The process is not always easy, it can be stressful and emotional at times, but with the right communication they do a good job.

Con dont let this company fool you their a waste of time and money trust me first hearing today they never shown uo then told mw it was cancelles did not belive them so went to court 4 your drive amd i was in court been granted legal aid avoid avoid their con people

I was charged with several serious driving offences aswell as failure to provide specimen of blood for alcohol. I opted for the platinum / gold service as the case was complicated.
Needless to say all the team from NML (National Motoring Lawyers) was fantastic.
From the initial Conversation with Sandra Cooper to Jay Lemosa who represented myself at a not guilt plea. Fantastic.
For my trial date to my surprise they sent Philip Lucas who was nothing more than fantastic and more importantly supportive to the situation.
Without going into to much detail but he was brilliant in the court room and getting the case dismissed.
The old saying that you pay for what you get comes true here.
Any review that says they aren’t professional or don’t know what they are doing is talking NONSENSE.

If you are reading this, I know you must be in a tough situation and are looking for a good representation. I was in similar shoes last year and before speaking with Sandra Cooper at NML, I had consulted with five other lawyers. It was Sandra who truly UNDERSTOOD the specifics of my case and provided a realistic, clear overview of how it would proceed. Her honesty and expertise gave me the confidence to choose NML, and I am very glad that I did. The other lawyers said i had a case to argue and were more keen on the payment.

I opted for the Platinum Service with NML and the support I received was first-class. For my first court hearing, I was represented by Melanie. She was absolutely amazing—polite, incredibly professional, and she dealt with the case very effectively. I felt reassured and in very capable hands.

My case workers Amy, Amanda, and Aaron, have done fantastic work. They kept me consistently informed and supported throughout the entire process. Their professionalism and responsiveness were greatly appreciated.

It was a difficult and anxious time for me, but the entire team at NML made the process as smooth and stress-free as possible. I would not hesitate to recommend thier services to anyone in need of expert legal representation.

You need to bear in mind that these are your legal advisors and NOT therapists, so if they are not in touch with you for sometime, it means they are working in the background. Give them time to do thier work and rest assured they will do thier best to give you the outcome you need.

Having been charged with suspected drunk driving , I used NML as was informed they were good in this field.
I picked Mr David Houldcroft to defend me as he was most experienced on their panel .
And I’m extremely glad I did !!
He was fantastic, his attention to detail is what helped win the case , and Nicky his legal assistant was brilliant too.

System and how to win a case was second to none ..

AVOID… My deeply regretful instruction to this firm resulted in paying them £12,000 for an incompetent blundering job which an unqualified paralegal could have done blindfolded. They are now suing me in the Small Claims Court in retaliation for posting a negative review here on Trustpilot. Worst decision in decades instructing this firm who I thankfully sacked off. Already a lose / lose position for a small firm of truly awful solicitors who provide an 0800 phone number for pre-sales and then demand £200 / month or will not talk to you on the phone. Zero client care and they do not have your back or best interests; they want more and more ££££££!

NML claim in reply "You were able to continue driving after this hearing because a written opinion had been obtained from the leading barrister in the country which raised several legal arguments in your favour." WRONG! There was no hearing, there was no legal argument, the document and arguments provided counted for nothing on the day as the Court vacated the trial due to lack of time to hear the matter. Mr Principal you are wrong!

NML further claim by reply "You have paid substantially less than the figure you have claimed in your review." Again, Mr Principal, you are wrong :-) The exact figure is £12,034 over 14 payments. You are now suing me for a further £2.5k making the total amount billed circa £14,500. Mr Principal if you cannot correctly add-up a few rows in Excel then this is precisely the lack of attention to any detail and delusion experienced with your firm and should not be at all surprised the matter is now with the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Legal Ombudsman.
