Concerning inappropriate questions were asked of a five year old regarding adult relationships and their personal relationships as in do you have a girlfriend etc this does not fall into the guidelines of the DSM 5 assessments if children

Outstanding from start to finish after a long 14 year wait with camhs I went down the right to choose path with my son and we was seen and all finished within 9 months every worker we have had has been amazing and I couldn’t fault them one bit I’m truely grateful to all that have worked with us on this what seemed never ending totally recommend

Very poor service indeed. Communication and speed of response have been abysmal at all stages.

I was diagnosed with ADHD in 2024 and had my care through Psicon ltd for the last year and it has been amazing, literally has changed my life. I started medication for ADHD and it has changed my life, I’m able to concentrate, prioritise, listen and less fidgety. I had reviews with Krystal Charnock who has been my prescribing nurse, she is so lovely and down to earth and really knows her stuff. She made me feel relaxed and calm and really treats you like a human rather than a number or tickbox, thank you Krystal, you really are an amazing Nurse.

We had a very good experience with Psicon. We went through Right to Choose and our wait time was acceptable. In fact it was less time than we expected. It was good not to have to travel too far. The professional who met with us the first time was excellent. My child was very nervous and wouldn't separate from me so I was allowed into the room, and sat quietly at the back just so that he felt safe and comfortable to participate in the session. The professional was warm and friendly, and very good at what she did. She managed to engage my child and get a real idea of what he is like.
The second appointment was over zoom. Again, the professional was brilliant and evidently an expert. She met mainly with me but asked to meet my child briefly, and managed to get him to open up even though he was reluctant. The doctor gave me a diagnosis there and then, and reassured me that my child would be fine and get through life well with family support and understanding professionals, like teachers, etc. Our final report was sent to us very quickly and was very thorough and helpful.

Both the pre-assessment questionaires and the assessments themselves were incredibly thorough. I was given time to speak and felt as if I were really listened to. Diagnosis was immediate and every stage of the process was efficiently and professionally managed. Would recommend 100%!

Outdated DSM-5 Framework Discriminates Against High-Masking AuDHD Presentation

While I am grateful that Psicon successfully synchronized my children's vital ADHD medication titration appointments, the autism diagnostic assessment pathway remains deeply flawed, exclusionary, and structurally discriminatory against high-masking AuDHD profiles.

My son Rowan’s assessment panel completely missed the complex, exhausting biological cost of neurodivergent masking. The clinician dismissed his autistic traits simply because he is highly intelligent, well-spoken, maintained eye contact, engaged in role-play, and has friends. To claim that an autistic child cannot be deeply empathetic, imaginative, or maintain peer relationships is a lazy, outdated stereotype that completely ignores the modern reality of internalised neurodivergence.

As a neurodivergent adult who survived the exact same masking patterns as a child, I see exactly what the clinicians failed to observe. My children absorb the emotions of others, analyze social situations to fit in, and use their high intelligence to subconsciously copy behaviors to pass as neurotypical. Rowan’s ADHD is currently his dominant presenting trait simply because it is more socially acceptable; he is actively terrified to drop his shield and unmask in a hostile school environment where staff have zero specialized neurodiversity training.

By relying strictly on rigid, checkbox-style DSM-5 observation metrics during a brief clinic session, Psicon is entirely failing high-masking children. This structural blind spot leaves vulnerable, intelligent young people completely unsupported, forcing them to carry the weight of an unrecognized identity until they crash with anxiety and depression in adulthood.

I am permanently pulling both of my sons out of Psicon's diagnostic pathways and transferring their files to independent, specialist private practitioners who actually utilize modern, neurodiversity-affirming frameworks. If you have an intelligent, high-masking child, avoid this standard NHS-checkbox track entirely.

For so long, me and my husband have been convinced that our child had autism and despite people telling us “it’s just age”, “I don’t think so” we finally got accepted to be seen by Psicon, the best decision we ever made was to go with Psicon. The waiting times were so so quick which we felt so lucky with. They put us at ease straight away, the doctor we spoke to was incredible and the child psychologists were so lovely. We have now chosen for our daughter to be seen by them as they have been incredible and they finally confirmed the diagnosis of what we thought would be. Thankyou so much to all of the team

I had 3 separate assessments for family members. After submitting paperwork, the appointments for ADHD assessments were only 2-4 weeks wait. And Autism one was abit longer 3-4 months. However it was all so quick, easy and the Drs were so friendly, helpful and professional. I would 100% recommend Psicon to anyone who needs.

The team who works at Psicon is excellent and professional.

We were kept informed throughout the whole experience as to where we were on the waiting list. All letters, emails, assessments and reports were completed in the time frame specified. When we did speak to people via phone, email or in person, everyone we dealt with was professional and friendly.

Psicon have been absolutely brilliant with my 9 year old son, the whole process has been quick and they where very understanding with me and patient as it was all a bit too much to process for myself but my son got both diagnosis and I’m so thankful he can now get the help he needs

I had concerns with Psicon throughout the entire process, starting with the assessment itself, which was completed through Right to Choose.

During the assessment, I did not feel the assessor was interested in hearing about my child’s difficulties and experiences at home, and I was repeatedly prevented from properly explaining my concerns. I also found the assessor rude and abrupt with my child. At one point she questioned why they were speaking in a certain way, despite them being clearly anxious during the assessment.

There was also another person visible in the background during the assessment, which caused me further concern.

I raised a formal complaint afterwards. Psicon apologised for aspects of what had happened, but I was also told there was no way of checking exactly what had taken place during the assessment because no recording was kept, meaning it effectively came down to my account of events.

I then raised a diagnostic dispute because I remained concerned about the outcome and how the evidence had been considered. Their stated timeframe was 20 working days, but I waited around twice that long for a response.

When the diagnostic dispute response finally arrived, it included information relating to another child.

I am now having to go through a further complaint process about the handling of the diagnostic dispute itself.

Overall, this has been an extremely frustrating and concerning experience. For a service carrying out important neurodevelopmental assessments for children, I would expect much greater care, accuracy and professionalism throughout the process.

We are extremely grateful to Dr Ramya Venkatraman for the care, professionalism and attention she showed when reviewing our son’s assessment report.

She took our concerns seriously, carefully reconsidered the relevant information and made important amendments so that the final report reflected our son’s day-to-day difficulties and support needs much more accurately.

As parents, it meant a great deal to us to feel listened to and to know that our concerns had been genuinely considered. We are sincerely grateful to Dr Venkatraman for the time and care she gave to our son’s case. Thank you.

My daughter was referred for assessment and apparently she doesn’t match the criteria for an assessment???

I have diagnosed ADHD and I really struggle with it. I see my kid come home in tears because she can’t focus at school and she’s getting into trouble, she’s miserable and desperate for help. She’s not a naughty child. I see my ADHD traits in her all day every day. Really disappointed that she can’t even get an assessment when she’s struggling so much.

I would not recommend this service. Disgusting that they leave struggling kids like this.

I can’t rate Krystal Charnock highly enough. I’ve been dealing with Krystal at Piscon for coming up to a year now and she has been brilliant from the start.

She always takes the time to explain everything properly and makes sure I understand what the medication is doing, why we are changing things and what we are trying to achieve. She is always positive, upbeat and easy to talk to, which makes a big difference.

What I’ve really appreciated is that she actually listens to how I’m getting on and is happy to change things up if something isn’t quite right. It has felt very much like we are working together to get the medication right for me.

The difference it has made has honestly been life-changing. I’ve always felt listened to and supported, and I’m really grateful for all the help Krystal has given me.

I would highly recommend the ADHD and Autism assessment process (through Right to Choose) with Psicon. While it takes a little longer than other service providers, compared to what others have said to me, it is really thorough and user friendly. It is easy to contact staff by phone or email, and they have all been really informative and clear at communicating. We’ve had an excellent experience with Psicon throughout our eight-year-old daughter’s ADHD and autism assessments, as well as with her ongoing medication.

Our daughter masks considerably and also has selective mutism, which made her circumstances a little more complex. The team took the time to really understand her individual needs and worked with us to find an approach that enabled the assessments to be completed in a way that worked for her.

Communication throughout has been excellent, responsive, supportive and reassuring, and we’ve always felt that our daughter was seen and understood as an individual.
