Spielzeug für Hobby-Admins mit viel Zeit und Geduld

Hardware okay. Firmware und laufende Updates, welche das vorausgegangene Update patchen und mühsam eingerichtete Funktionen wieder lahmlegen, machen den Kasten zum Tamagotchi für Hobby-Admins. Für den Produktiveinsatz schwer haltbar, weil unzuverlässig und zeitintensiv. Support und technische Beschreibungen sind oftmals unzureichend. Wehe, wenn man mal ein Problem hat.

Bad technical support

Bad technical support. Bad product
I've spent a lot of money on a high-end product but this one makes an unbearable noise when formatted with Quts Hero.
I contacted support who just made me waste time without solving the problem. Their advice was to wait for a few patches. meanwhile I have installed the old version of the Qts operating system. So I spent unnecessarily without being able to use Quts Hero.
Qunap has many applications but they are mostly applications dedicated to home users. On a professional level there is little. The organization of the system is confusing to say the least

Yep I am also a victim of 21/04 ransom…

Yep I am also a victim of 21/04 ransom attack lost all my pictures thanks to this company. Or I could just pay £450 to have my server released which I am seriously thinking of doing. Memories are so special and they have been wiped out by QNAP thanks for nothing. No reply to any of my tickets.

Non comprate assolutamente Q-Nap…

Non comprate assolutamente i prodotti Q-Nap...sono stato vittima di un attacco hacker a causa di un baco la quale Q-Nap aveva provveduto a sistemare solamente per i nuovi modelli...mi sono visto chiedere 500 euro per sbloccare tutti i miei file di cui non potevo fare a meno...vi prego ascoltatemi e cercate prodotti di aziende più serie visto che non hanno saputo aiutarmi alla loro debolezza...cercate sul web qlocker qnap e capirete di cosa parlo...

QNAP - a company NOT to do business with!!!!

Like many - I suffered as a result of the recent Randsomware attack 21/4 2021. I'm not a technology expert but needed a NAS for large storage capacity.
I have a TS1680U device - so not cheap!
Given that I was clueless what to do as a result of the attack, I phoned the support line. I dealt with two people - Mike and Matt.
Mike was friendly and helpful. He put up with my 'dumb questions and managed to help to a certain degree.
Matt however, was a very different 'kettle of fish'...
I needed additional support and so had set up a team connect session. My colleague and I both wanted to be on the session as 'two heads are better than one'.
What we experienced was jaw dropping.
The session has the option for voice - so we selected that. It was clear that Matt had his speakers disabled - however, we could hear him ALL TOO WELL.
His written responses were polite enough. But what he was saying about myself and OTHER QNAP customers was beyond appalling.
He was chatting to his female companion about her getting a job with the NHS, whilst he complained how stupid QNAP clients were. He arrogantly stated that I was a 'Bell***' as I had connected the system incorrectly and a 'total f****** ****' ... I can only assume that he deems anyone with lesser knowledge of the QNAP systems to be unworthy - that was certainly his attitude!
As he worked through my systems - he then stated that "I was obviously 'doin' dodgy S***' as I had TOR Browser on the machine" (Only there as a result of seriously contemplating paying the randsomware demand)...
When I pointed out that we could hear - his microphone was muted very rapidly.
Both my colleague and I were stunned. Although it was very funny when we shared our experience with our colleagues across the business.
It's great to know that the company values their clients and are concerned about trying to help them.
QNAP need to learn that selling is a journey - supplying the product is just one part of that. Treating clients with utter contempt and disdain is not a recipe for long term success. If QNAP have any integrity - they would bother to read the reviews that are posted here and do something. Given that they obviously do not read these reviews and have not bothered to improve their customer service or products - they do not deserve to be in business.
The cost of large scale storage is reducing and there are better options at a fraction of the cost.
Do not use QNAP.

Stay clear of QNAP if you value your data!

After several years of using a QNAP NAS (TS451+), and after many let-downs by the notoriously buggy software of this NAS, I now decided to dump it for good.

Like many others I was also affected by the latest QNAP ransomware attack (Apr 21, 2021). Fortunately I did not lose any relevant data, but that was only because of backing up the data elsewhere. The NAS had a "volume snapshot" taken before the ransom attack. This should supposedly permit to roll back to the state prior to the attack. However, this failed with bogus messages such as "need 65 PB (!) of additional storage" or "snapshot empty".

The NAS did not have weak passwords or other obvious flaws in the setup, but QNAP's software is so buggy that it gave wide-open backdoor write access to the hackers via its flawed file manager and hybrid backup applications.

Other setbacks I experienced with the QNAP software include:

1) Failure to rebuild RAID5 array after swapping a disk with a few failed sectors. What started as a precautionary exercise to prevent data loss turned into a full purge and rebuild from backup due to QNAP's buggy software.

2) Catastrophic data corruption after doing a system "upgrade". Note that QNAP frequently pushes system upgrades, a sure-fire sign of constantly having to patch their messy, poor quality software.

All data losses I experienced in about four years of running this NAS were due to the buggy, unreliable QNAP software.

I can also confirm other reviewers' poor experience with the unresponsive QNAP support. They are a Taiwanese outfit that aggressively pushes new products but gives a damn about software quality and support. Don't think you are safe if you buy a more expensive "professional" NAS from them - all products that run their QTS software are affected.

Adding to this: QNAP uses Linux, so you might think you can take a disk from your NAS and mount it on a Linux server. I found that this is nigh on impossible as QNAP "customises" the file system. This means they force you to buy another QNAP box in case your NAS fails and you wish to continue using your NAS drives. Typical behaviour of rogue-ish greedy irresponsible cowboys who don't give a damn about your data security.

Another addon: check online how QNAP treats its employees (hint: poorly) and think about what this means in terms of product quality (hint: corners cut) and security (hint: disgruntled ex-staff with inside knowledge about shocking software weaknesses).

Bottom line: if you value your data, give these cowboys a wide berth as you will be let down badly when things go wrong. Buying QNAP is worse than having no backup. If you have no backup, you at least know that you are vulnerable. If you have QNAP you think you can count on it but you couldn't be more wrong.

Himmeltrauriges Marke

Himmeltrauriges Marke. Finger weg. Ich habe jetzt bereits 2 mal auf meinem TS-420 Malware eingefangen und einmal musste ich bei Ontrack 1800.- ausgeben um meine Festplatten wiederherzustellen. Das kann und darf nicht passieren. Ich habe dieses Gerät jetzt geschrottet und eine von WD gekauft. Nie mehr Qnap!!!

Not for the non IT expert

This rating relates to a 'non techie' experience by a home user. The device is marketed to 'home users' but in my opinion unless you work in IT or have considerable experience of IT technical issues, I would avoid this. The device is far more complex than a computer, and there appears to be no real manual. If you occasionally have to refer to an IT expert for computer problems then you'll tear your hear out with trying to understand the various esoteric pop-ups and error messages.

Very light use but still broke

After a couple of years of very light use just stopped working. After reset cannot access with the admin password, everything takes half an hour to say it cannot connect, shop cannot make it work I have spent days trying to solve problems, bought new disks etc Don't buy this if you value your data or want to spend your life doing productive things.

Far from best experience

I wonder if there are better solutions than QNAP.
Seems like Synology could be more reliable, but with fewer features...

My experience with the company is mostly about NAS devices. Around 5 of them. Different levels.
However, I bought some services and software, as well.

The thing I like the most is the broad feature pack that (at least at the beginning) seems to be easily configurable. And it’s good for most bit advanced users, I guess.

Another positive are updates. They come for quite a long time. Especially security updates.

Problems appear when you try to customize. Even such a simple thing like changing port numbers may end up in problems. Especially if the local port number for a service is different from a publicly accessible port number (with forwarding).

My biggest complaint would be the GUI performance. Even when the hardware is supposed to be very fast, QNAP’s software (GUI, control, scripts, etc.) is simply a one huge bottleneck. For example, TVS-672XT with 4 7200 RPM HDDs in RAID 5 and 4 manually locked partitions takes around 20 minutes to start! Couple of minutes for the OS and each partition takes another couple of minutes to unlock manually (as storing keys on the same device seems unreasonably insecure).
Adding SSDs and using Cache Acceleration doesn’t really help.
A system running for a year with Cache, manually unlockable volumes and some big applications installed, like Qsirch and Plex, takes almost 40 minutes to restart!

Support can be helpful one time, but totally ignorant another time. I have had an exceptionally bad experience with one guy over there.

There is no "on site" service, neither options of fast repairs. Closest service for Denmark is in Germany.
Last time hardware failed I ended up without a main NAS for over a month!
So if access is important, you might end up having a spare NAS that is compatible with your disks configuration.

Even worse, they require to be allowed to record service sessions, and have an option to use those pictures/videos in pretty much any way they want.

I am seriously considering building my own machine next time, instead. Or some other producer maybe. If there even are better alternatives...

non acquisterò mai piu Qnap

ho un NAS ts-112 che ora non uso più da tempo colpa del loro firmware che aggiornandosi mi ha tolto man mano tutte le applicazioni che mi servivano, prima transmission poi aMule e infine MLdonkey... hanno lasciato solo download station che tra parentesi fa schifo... quindi ho bittorrent ma non ed2k... hanno tolto il supporto Optware che serviva per queste applicazioni esterne per processori arm e hanno messo al suo posto Entware che è una presa in giro perchè non funziona, si installa ma poi non c'è nulla non c'è neanche un comando ne una configurazione eppure sul sito entware ci sono le applicazioni... uno schifo... adesso questo NAS è praticamente quasi da buttare... non acquisterò mai piu nessuno dei loro prodotti...
sono stato uno stupido a fidarmi una seconda volta quando gia la prima volta il ts-110 andò in assistenza e me lo restituirono cosi come l'avevo mandato, rotto... non avrei dovuto comprarmi il ts-112... un consiglio, orientatevi su altre marche, sono degli irresponsabili e menefreghisti nei confronti dei loro stessi clienti, basta che vendono... ma stavolta vi è andata male...

Worst experience with QNAP support

Worst experience with QNAP support, luckily I didn't purchase enterprise edition, my Tower NAS suddenly stopped booting, fans were not running even ( just 12 months, another 4 years warranty left, initially purchased with extended warranty ). Finally with the help of supplier I was able to initiate RMA.
They didn't send engineer even, asked me to send photos and video.

After two days I received email to send product to their center by removing harddrive etc. They do not even arrange courier service

Think before buying poor support product

1. Their website doesn't have proper customer support portal

2. For RMA you will have to remove all hdd/SSD network adapter if any and then courier to their center. They do not arrange even pickup service for your RMA

3. Software support don't expect, horrible customer support

4. Website doesn't have proper documentation on their products

5. Even when you're on warranty period, replacement will be delayed by months

Finally I do not recommend anyone to buy Enterprise NAS/Storage, you will have to deal with months of downtime in your critical environment.

Only one reason why I purchased QNAP is operating system built using Linux, along with other features, if you're are terminal lover, you will get shell access, offers ZFS.

Good Customer Service helping with a failed drive in Raid 5

Seen a lot of negative reviews on here but personally I have found the customer service very good so far.

I had a malware problem back in march they helped me over the phone with and this week one of my 6 6TB Red Western Digital drives failed (1st ever to do so in the years I've been using them). Called up Qnap who gave me some good advice and when the new drive arrived set it up remotely after talking on the phone and creating a ticket. The guy on the phone was polite new his stuff and sorted out the problem so all good.

HybridMount Replication does not work, stay clear

I purchased a QNAP TS-251so I could store my OneDrive files on a NAS rather than PC. Do not do it, it just does not work, I've lost loads of work. The replication is rubbish. I've been thinking how do I back out because my replication is in such a mess. Finally I now have no choice. I have changed my Onedrive password, but QNAP do not have a facility to change your password. Surly this is ABC computing. So now I have to completely delete my all my files and recreate from scratch. No chance, this solution is a joke. It should be pulled until you can change your password and fix replication issue. This loss of work will cost me many hours work. Complete rubbish, stay clear.

QNAP is a total disappointment

I waited 3 years to get a QNAP system and I regret so badly. 8 months ago, I bought a TVS 872XT and:

1. the connection is totally unstable through Thunderbolt and WIFI/router. It disconnects every 10 mins, it's impossible to work without an ethernet connection. A nightmare.

2. QNAP support is really useless. They asked me to buy new cables, new adapters, they never found why the connection wasn't working.

As a result I am left with a system which really does not provide the service it was supposed to.

I wouldn't buy this system again, I don't recommend QNAP at all.

QNAP Service ist Top

Ich habe jetzt innerhalb von 2 Monaten zwei mal den Support von QNAP in Anspruch genommen. In beiden Fällen wurde mir sehr kompetent und zufriedenstellend geholfen.
Meine Note für den Support ist eine 1.

Not Professional Grade

These devices are at best cheap and "consumer-grade". You DO NOT want them for anything to do with an enterprise Windows Domain (Active Directory). They use a poorly modified implementation of Samba (allegedly 4) and a house-brand Linux that can't be modified or properly configured for enterprise operations (EG: BIND 9), so there is only one way to do things and that's the QNAP way; which is very, VERY, "bush-league". Most of the "support" available comes from forums manned by home-user volunteers who just don't have the experience with enterprise systems or even small business. Don't buy into the marketing hype that promises big but delivers a bare-bones knockoff.
