Qnap sucks! I have an older model - TS-251+, it works until it doesn't. An issue (intel CPU related - Celeron J1900) bricks the unit. Intel publicly announced but Qnap never did anything, happily sol... Toon meer

Welcome to QNAP - network attached storage ( NAS ) and surveillance products provider. The QNAP TS-809 Pro Turbo NAS is the fastest NAS server we have ever tested and in many ways would be better and cheaper than building your own NAS server with similar specifications. To get the most out of the TS-809 pro you should have a large user group...

the backplane of our 2.5 year old $700…
the backplane of our 2.5 year old $700 NAS broke 6 months after the warranty ended. QNAP support says its user error and wants $140 for repair. Thats the last time I bought their products.
Buy a QNAP? Better not!!!
Buy a Synology.
QNAP sucks in any regard. They make sure that you can't create a service ticket in case you face a problem, their software is simply light years behind of their competitors and if you use their systems, you better have another option as your backup since (my own experience can tell) you will lose your valuable data if you count on their service.
By far the WORSE product I've ever…
By far the WORSE product I've ever purchased.
Nothing works. Everything is problematic. You'd think you can simply access files. Nope. You'd think that having a direct USB connection, designed to connect directly would be easy. Nope.
QNAP service is shocking. Terrible product. If you are thinking of QNAP — don't bother. They're the worse I've ever seen. I haven't had a single positive experience with my NAS. It's terrible. Useless. Like a car without wheels or a camera take doesn't take photos. Useless junk.
A waste of money and time.
Hardware well okay, software horrible
QNAP promote itself like an Enterprise firm, this is FAR FROM THE TRUTH!
About the hardware I can say, it's okay as long as you've got the metal NAS models, the plastic are horror, everything breaks down, cheap plastic and when you want to do something it breaks.
About the software, big fan of QVR Pro, but the program is instable like a house of cards. And the biggest problem with QNAP, the support department is a team of incompetent, lazy, not willing, laugh in your face but 'up you're' at your back.
Working with 'the other big NAS company' for more than 10 years. If I have a problem there they contact me as long as it need, and ask if i'm satisfied and when i'm not they are working as long to satisfy the customer.
QNAP, we live in 2020, you can't mess around with your service any more. Take a big broom and swipe the complete office empty with lazy, not willing to work staff! And please, fix the software, when I finally have a stable working version don't push another, last time I went from 'Stable and Satisfied' to 'Instable and Frustration'.
$800 NAS lasted 3 years
Their QTS NAS (TS-453B) died around the 3-year mark despite good ventilation, UPS, and a fairly light to moderate load. Support was completely nonchalant and unapologetic about the failure (seemed to be a common occurrence, based on their attitude).
"Oops. Sounds dead. Go buy a new one from this list."
From what I've seen, their newer products only have a 1-year warranty. Kinda speaks to their confidence in their products, eh?

Good hardware but software and support fail
I currently have three QNAP NAS. The hardware is pretty good - although I did have a problem with two NAS and had to return them - one because of a product design issue and one due to a failure.
The software is not so great. There are plenty of features, but they do not always work or work fully. In fact, software quality is VERY poor. There are so many bugs that I am left assuming QNAP does not care about software quality and overlooks detailed testing.
The documentation is worthless. Trying to work out how to configure anything but standard configurations is impossible. Take the Network & Virtual Switch documentation as an example: it offers pearls of wisdom like "Add an IP address to the IP Address field" or "Enter you VLAN ID in the VLAN ID field" without paying attention to the networking the scenario ‘bigger picture’ and other components configurations. They have a video channel, but it too is unhelpful. Videos are long ramblings that pretty much repeat the unhelpful documentation. Although videos are in English the presenters struggle with English language making the videos laborious and difficult to comprehend.
Support is not good. It takes an inordinate time to work through issues, often without reaching a resolution. I have wasted months trying to resolve problems; providing detailed information about issue only to be left frustrated with the outcomes. And, as with the videos, support have the same English issue making communication very difficult.
Overall, the product is just too hard to work with, there are way too many bugs and the organisation to difficult to work in resolving them. These make it impossible for me to recommend QNAP.

I have had a qnap now for over 5 years and I am completely satisfied with it. Customer services are helpful.
£500 paperweight
£500 paperweight. TS-251+
The thing was has been problematic from the start. I literally used it to back up my films and music to stream round my house. Nothing more complex than that.
It would work on and off, needing weekly resets. the remote worked some days and not others. Eventually, it failed during an update. It is out of warranty and nothing I do to the machine will get it to initialize. QNAP sent loads of different stuff to try, that a coder would struggle with, to no avail. Even the factory reset button doesn't work so I can't set it back to the as new setting.
Yeah ... "quality" product. Never again.
Received a response from QNAP that my NAS is out of warranty - which is fair enough ... it's 3 years and 3 months old (so 3 months out of warranty.) From the invoice the unit was purchased on the 06th February 2017. What you don't see is that this SAME unit was returned 21st February 2018 (exactly a year after it was purchased) with Bay Drive 3 Fault. Now 3 years into it's life Bay 4 has failed.
This means that the average lifespan for components of this unit was 1.5 years before something broke to such an extent that it has to be fixed by QNAP.
This for a unit that was $AU1,500 ... it's beyond a joke.
I've had a QNAP previously which functioned for 7 years without any issues. This has been a total piece of garbage.
So thanks for the offer to buy another one QNAP support - I'll politely reply that I'll NEVER buy another QNAP.
Amazing customer support
Amazing customer support. Maybe a little slow to respond but once you buy a QNAP you get extensive lifetime support. We have about 10 of them in virtualization environment or as file server. They rarely fail but recently one that was bought several years ago did and QNAP support spent an hour helping me recuperate the data. The software for the QNAP Platform is very good. They are relatively inexpensive quality products
Thanks TRUSTPILOT
Thanks TRUSTPILOT. I wanted to spend thousands to buy QNAP NAS this week. Almost 90% of negative 1 star opinion kicked out from my head this idea forever. It looks like QNAP is just another crap asian product with cheap crappy service. I will share this opinion between IT environment together with this topic. Shame on QNAP. QNACRAP.
each time a disk runs int trouble, I am screwed too
each time a disk runs into trouble, I run into trouble. The device has an interface that is not intuitive and you are never sure if your data are safe. The best and only way to work with this machine is to use and handle it in the Linux command line. At least tehre you fiond your data back. I hate this machine and try not to touch it. TS659Pro+
no way to contact them to get info on…
no way to contact them to get info on issues. you just have to manage yourself. worst support service ever. and they don't even care
Their systems are terrible
Their systems are terrible. support systems just bad. support staff have little ability to diagnose performance issues and recommend stupid things like reformatting your NAS, obviously because they don't know what they are doing.
Ever tried gitlab docker on the qnap container station store? Don't. its just an example of many half assed products on there that are not production safe and will waste your precious time. QNAP, if you read this, you need to do less, and do it better. you are overstretched with inept ability to produce a good eco system. And charging $500 for 16GB of ram or I will invalidate my warranty? Please.
If you want any of the abilitys that are extra (more like a server than a NAS), just build it yourself because their vendor lockin and bad support will leave you with an expensive vendor piece of hardware that will eventually be a brick.
QNAP TS-453Be Be scared, be very scared.
Some background. I have a Bachelor's degreee in IT, owned my first computer 40 years ago (Vic 20), and have worked the last 10 years in a Senior Service Desk Analyst position at a university.
I have found it almost IMPOSSIBLE to get the things I want working to work.
I have finally gotten QSonarr and QRadarr working. I estimate it took me 40+ hours.
I am now trying my hand with Photo Station/QuMagic. I am 10 hours into it, have followed the QuMagie Web Help guide, and have yet to see a single photo in the application. That's right. I am baffled why it takes 3 applications to manage my photos. I am bewildered at the QNAP software help guides (If you could call them guides) and am getting sick to death of having to battle my way through absolutely everything to do with software on this machine. I am now going to uninstall Container Station, QuMagie Core and QuMagie in the hope there is some magical order than affects installation.
Surely it shouldn't be harder than installing the application. Tell it where your photos are. Sit back and do as much or as little organising as wanted.
A colleague who is very switched on with tech recommended Synology because their software is great. I, on the other hand, thought I would go for the better value hardware package Qnap offers. Oh, what a mistake I made. Please, do yourself a favour, and stay way clear of QNAP products unless you are an IT guru....even then.....frankly, I am just sick of this product and will probably stick it on eBay soon.
The only good thing is it is still working as a NAS, I can connect to it reliably, and it hasn't died.
they deserve the prize of the world's…
they deserve the prize of the world's worst support and product
qnap struggle with user experience
Constant issues during firmware upgrades which needs always some tweaks after. I didn't buy branded NAS to always repair something that breaks. I'd expect better user experience.
