Terrible Experience

I contacted Appliance Repair Expert in early September because my Samsung refrigerator wasn’t cooling properly. They sent a technician who claimed to have over 20 years of experience. However, without taking the refrigerator apart or properly investigating the root cause of the problem, he recommended replacing a gasket and quoted me $791 for the part alone, before labour.

After checking the price of the genuine Samsung part myself, I discovered that their quoted price was approximately three times higher. I was also told that the part would take about a month to arrive, and I was charged for it upfront.

After waiting four weeks with no updates, I contacted the technician myself. He promised to call me back the following day, but I never heard from him again. I then tried contacting customer service, but received no response. With no communication and no resolution, I had to contact my credit card company to dispute the charge, and I received my money back.

The very next day, I contacted a local appliance repair technician. He came promptly, opened up the refrigerator, and showed me that the fan was completely iced over and the drain was blocked. This was the actual cause of the cooling problem. He cleaned everything, fixed the issue on the spot, and charged me just $150.

The difference was unbelievable. One company quoted me an expensive replacement part without properly diagnosing the problem, left me waiting for four weeks, and stopped responding. Another technician identified and fixed the actual issue in one visit for $150.

My advice: Get a second opinion before agreeing to expensive repairs or paying for parts upfront. Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend Appliance Repair Expert. The lack of proper diagnosis, excessive pricing, and complete lack of follow-up were extremely disappointing. I would never use this company again. They are a scam and should be doing business

Absolutely terrible experience. I booked a diagnostic for a broken dryer and was promised a quote before any work was done. Instead, the technician performed unauthorized work without my approval, failed to fix the dryer, and sent an outrageous $271 bill for a basic lint clean.
When I refused to pay for unauthorized work that didn't even fix the appliance, the technician threatened to trespass on the property to "undo" the work and directly called my tenants, intimidating minor children home alone. Management completely ignored my emails for weeks, and when they finally picked up the phone, they immediately threatened to send the account to claims instead of resolving the issue. Unprofessional, unethical, and a direct violation of consumer rights. Avoid this company.

I will never ever use this company again. They took my money and never fixed my dishwasher . I’ve tried to email , text and call and no one return my message . Don’t waste your time with this company. They will take your money and nothing will get fixed

After engaging this service, the tech came to diagnose my washer the next day (took 5 minutes). They promised a response within 4 days. After almost a week without news, I called them and the person on the line said the tech would get in touch. I didn't hear from them that day, so I call their main line and the call was disconnected immediately. I called 2 more times with the same result. I then sent a strongly worded email, asking for an update. I finally received a response and the tech came to install the part the next day. The work took 20 minutes and cost over $500. This was well above market rates.

After the diagnosis, we were asked to pay 60% for the work upfront and the service visit would be waived. The invoice doesn't have a proper breakdown of the fees for the work. i.e labour and service visit, tech travel time etc. It was all lumped together, so there's no certainty that anything was deducted from the final price of the repair.

Further, their invoice/contract has many disclaimers on it and you're not able to read it before they send it to you. Nothing was explained. Upon reading the fine print, you'll be penalized for canceling and the return of parts that may have been ordered.

The technician's demeanor was gruff and unpleasant. Communication with the company is poor, and all that was needed was an update on when the part was expected and possible installation dates. He also did not take his shoes off or offer to wear shoe coverings upon entering my home.

Overall, we were left uncertain that the repair would be executed and doubtful of the integrity of this company.

I will not use this service again.

I would leave zero stars if I could. Took 100 dollars to diagnose a stove then completely ghosted me. Can I get my money to pay the next company to actually do the job?

Scam Scam Scam…..I can’t believe I let this guy in my home….I should have done my research on the company.
Before he attempted to find the cause, he made it known that it would cost $250 to problem solve, he also
stated that payment was to be cash or debit, which I never heard , only when I attempted to pay with my
credit card & being told that I needed the kit to repair
the heating problem, which would cost $570.
I said is it working now, after he put it all back together…..he said he would have to return after I agreed
to get the parts…..what service repair man doesn’t have parts to repair what I called them for. Called his office
after I told him I could only pay with my credit card.
Was then threatened to have a collection agency
to chase me to pay, after I said I don’t have cash or debit
card to send money. Like an idiot I went to my bank to
get the cash. Had I done the follow up on the company
reviews while he was there….I would have thrown him
out of my house. Upon reviewing the company invoice, I
couldn’t believe what I was reading….DO NOT SIGN ANYWHERE ON THE INVOICE…..it is set up for you to
agree to everything they want you to….to cover their
ass, for any follow by you would want to peruse about
their SCAM……thought I was dealing with the Mafia….no
Service guy could hardly write English, but only to make
sure I signed the invoice….here or there to cover their ass. I still can’t believe I let this happen !

Their service is overpriced. The quote provided doesn’t reflect the price for the parts and the labour. If you want to change your mind, you have 15 min only. After you will charged 30% of parts restocked, + shipping and handling fees. In my case the repair of my 16 year old LG washer was quoted at $770, parts + labor. The first charge was $336. After I realized that it doesn’t make a real sense to repair old machine and cancel the order I was reimbursed only $72. Again, the quote given was not provided price for the labour and parts. The technician visit was quoted $89+tax.

not even worth one star they ripped me off $350, never wanted to give me my deposit after I canceled the service and before they received the parts that was needed. Booked an official complaint through BBB but they never responded. Even if I go to small court and 100% sure I'll win, good luck for them to pay me back!!! avoid completely!!!

Very disappointing experience. The technician diagnosed my range hood control panel as defective and recommended replacement, with a quoted cost of approximately $930 including the service charge. I was also told that replacing the range hood could cost thousands of dollars.

The next day, a friend checked it and found that the control panel was not defective at all. It was simply an operating/reset issue. After holding a control button for about 5 seconds, the range hood worked normally again. No replacement part or repair was needed.

I contacted the company and requested a refund of the diagnostic/service fee, but the matter was not satisfactorily resolved.

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company. A simple reset/operating issue should have been identified before recommending an expensive control panel replacement.

I normally never leave bad reviews but I felt compelled to as this was such a frustrating experience, I don’t know where their good Google reviews on their website are coming from as I cannot even find them on Google Maps. They are not answering any calls or emails after taking my money and they didn’t provide me with an invoice, diagnosis report, confirmation receipts, or anything, even after I requested it. I first contacted them asking to assess my freezer that stopped working. They initially responded very quickly and called me the next day after I submitted a request online, and they were able to send a technician the same day and charged me for the home visit. The technician gave me a verbal diagnosis after checking the back of the fridge for only a couple minutes and said the company would send someone to see if they can fix it, not even confirming if they can fix it or not. I waited for two weeks with no contact from them, and my calls to them went mostly unanswered, if someone did pick up, they would just dodge my questions by saying the technician was not working that day and they need to wait for him to confirm, and that they will call me back but they never did. I ended up contacting another company that was much more professional, they provided me with a much different diagnosis and they actually spent effort to try to fix the fridge the same day, but unfortunately it was not fixable. If this company had just told me that the first time, I would have been able to buy a new fridge much sooner and not have had to go two weeks without a freezer in the middle of summer.

SCAM ALERT - STAY AWAY FROM THEM

Appliance Repair “Experts” are Quick. Quick to pick up the phone, quick to provide the service, quick to charge an insanely high fee (250 dollars for 20 minutes of work to fix an electrical issue on a dishwasher, no parts changed at all) and when the machine breaks down again, they are quick to ignore you as well. They are a complete scam, no care for their clients, just a quick cash grab to never pick up the phone again. 250 dollars for a 20 minute fix that lasted a day. They never picked the phone up again. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY, STEER CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY

STAY AWAY. This company is a scam.

I called this company for a repair on my washing machine. They:
-had me wait around the day of the scheduled appointment and then cancelled last minute.
-upon seeing the estimate the company had sent me ($200 plus tax), the repairman began insisting that 'his rate was $280" and that the estimate 'wouldn't even cover gas'. I had to repeatedly insist on the estimate being honoured -it was extremely unprofessional. Plus, who would pay $280 plus tax to have a sock removed?! (spoiler alert)
-incorrectly diagnosed the problem. Keep in mind, when diagnosing the problem, the repairman was in my home for less than 10 minutes. He told me I needed to replace the pump and had me pay a $380 deposit. This was after he spent most of the 10 minutes in my home trying to get me to pay more than the $200 estimate his company quoted.
-came back 2 days later and within a few minutes, found a sock lodged between the drum and the wall of the washing machine.
-the repairman said that because the issue was the sock, there was no point in installing the pump and that he was 'just trying to save me money"
-I immediately told him I needed a refund for the pump I paid for and was no longer needed. He told me that I might get 'around $60 back'. So let me get this straight - after all this, you charge $320 to remove a sock?! Again, the estimate for this exact problem was $200 plus tax.
- I called the number provided (866-246-4604) many times. I asked to be escalated to a manager and was given a clearly fake name. To this day (1 month on), the multiple emails have never been answered. Shocking.
- It's worth nothing, the customer service representative was incredibly rude after I had given payment. He kept insisting that I had been refunded through e-transfer. This is easy to check, and obviously no, I most definitely had not.
-as it stands, I am owed over $150 from this company.
-Here's the best part: I DIDN'T EVEN BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY.
-I called what was supposed to be Star Appliance, whom I've dealt with before. They somehow circumvented the business from this company (Star Appliance Repair - you need to take this seriously). So obviously, I'm now thinking how I could have made such a huge mistake, trying to book with one company and actually booking with another. But here is how I know it wasn't my mistake: when I insisted on e-transferring the deposit for the pump and labour to the email already saved to Star Appliance Repair, the repairman told me that I could e-transfer to Star Appliance since they were affiliated. However, while Appliance Repair Expert would be able to access the deposit on their end, it would take more time to schedule the actual repair. It had already been 4 days so I took his advice and e-transferred Appliance Repair Expert. I called Star Appliance Repair and to nobody's surprise except for this chump, it turns out that Appliance Repair Expert had absolutely no affiliation with them.

It has taken me the better part of a month to write this review. Partly because I'm embarrassed of how badly I was scammed and partly because of how surreal this situation was.
Please call any other company - no place will charge more than $250 (and this is upper limit) for draining a washing machine. And you won't have to wait 4+ days. Or feel like a sack at the end of service.

Worst service I have ever experienced. A technician from Appliance Repair Expert came to inspect my refrigerator in May and said there was a problem with the damper. I paid $350 for them to order the replacement part.

Three months passed without any meaningful update, and nobody ever returned to complete the repair. Each time I managed to contact them, I was given another promise: “We’ll come soon,” “We’ll come the day after tomorrow,” or “I’ll come in two days.” They never showed up.

After waiting three months, I emailed to request a refund. They did not respond and have not returned my $350. Based on my experience, I paid $350 and received no repair, no part, and no refund.

I found this company extremely unreliable and unprofessional. I would never trust them or do business with them again. Please think carefully before giving them any money.

They stole my money. Two technicians showed up ready to repair the incorrect appliance, claimed they didn’t have the correct parts, which was a seal for a dishwasher, and then charged me $200 for the quote ($89) plus deposit on the part. They promised to come back today. They promised to call me the day before to schedule the window. No call. I called the company to schedule a time. No call back with an appointment. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! They are liars and thieves

Terrible experience — failed repair and no follow-up

We had Appliance Repair Expert repair our dishwasher on August 5 and paid over $550. The dishwasher didn’t even complete one cycle before another error code appeared and it stopped working again.

We called the next day and were told someone would call us back. After several hours, we eventually reached someone who said they would arrange for the technician to return. We never heard back. Our subsequent calls went straight to voicemail, and our texts have also been ignored.

The technician was also rude and unfriendly.

We are now out over $550 with a broken dishwasher and no response from the company. We have asked for either a refund or for them to return and properly fix the dishwasher at no additional cost.

If they take responsibility and resolve this, we will absolutely update our review. But until then, we would strongly caution anyone considering using this company.

If it were possible, I would give them a 0! I called them on August 1, to take a look at a washer that was leaking water. The technician advised me not to overload and charged a service fee. The next day, after two loads, it started leaking again. I called and called over the span of 5 days; no one would answer and then a text message would appear, asking to indicate name and issue and that someone would get back to me. After that, someone would call and say that a techcian would call to book an appt and then nothing would happen. Not sure if this is a scam or just really unprofessional staff, but I would advise you to steer clear of this company!

If this is the company out of Mississauga per the invoice, then I would never hire them again. They sent 2 techs to do one tech's work, replaced the belt and pulley on my Samsung dryer and overcharged the labor of one hour. Now the dryer cannot handle the heavier loads it could before as the belt slips.

This is the most unprofessional company ever. I have been trying to get them to fix my wine fridge for a month. Their technician books an appointment with me and then doesn’t show/reschedules last minute or cancels last min. I have stayed home from work a total of 7 times hoping to get my fridge repaired. More importantly the management doesn’t care I explained the situation to the managers and they did nothing as well just telling me to stop calling. Never use them

My Liebherr refrigerator started to have ice build up in the freezer section. So, I called this company for a diagnostic visit. The dispatcher was polite and professional. He explained that, regardless of whether the repair went ahead, there would be a $99 diagnostic charge. I was OK with it.

The technician came on time on the scheduled date. He was from Wingate, a local appliance repair shop. He was unprofessional. First of all, he didn't even say hello or greet me. He was reading from his phone and never looked up once. I had to go back to my computer while waiting for him to enter my house. He did not put on shoe covers. He had a terrible cold or allergy and proceeded to stick a piece of tissue up his nose while he continued to talk to us in our kitchen. Without even opening our empty fridge, he told us the heating unit in the back needed replacing. He didn't have the parts and would come back later. He charged us $100 for coming, without looking inside my fridge.

He didn't show up and rescheduled twice. On the third time, I told him not to return. I lost faith in him and didn't trust that he could repair my fridge.

I would not use Appliance Repair Expert Corp from Mississauga again, nor would I recommend Wingate.

On July 7, 2026, Appliance Repair Expert sent a technician to my Saskatoon home for a fridge repair . I was quoted $30 on the phone for diagnostics and "under $100" if the repair went ahead. I was charged $255.20.
The price was the lesser problem. From the moment the technician arrived, his conduct was unacceptable: he sighed and grunted his way through the visit as though my booking were an imposition, and he swore repeatedly in front of my 4-year-old and 2-year-old — multiple times, in my own kitchen. He barked instructions at me and only moderated his tone when I confronted him about it. He directed my cleaner to clean behind the fridge, then scolded her for taking more than a minute or two. He also told me my fridge was "cheap." Of the 1 hour 45 minutes billed, roughly 20 minutes were spent outside waiting for water to build up.
I emailed a detailed written complaint to both info@ and manager@ the same morning, and followed up the next day on both addresses. As of writing, I have received no response of any kind.
I would not allow this company back into my home, and I'd suggest anyone considering them check their BBB profile first. Booked in good faith; left with a bill 2.5x the quote, an unresolved complaint, and children asking why the repairman was using those words.
