A South African company with some sort…

A South African company with some sort of front in London. Our worktops were delivered scratched through being slid over one another either during transport or their loading into a panel van, anyway, being elderly we could not lift the 60 & 90Kg units to properly and thoroughly inspect everything until fitters arrived some three weeks after delivery but then too late to return within BBK 3 day time limit. We had excess material so through clever cutting most damage was discarded but one large scratch remains and BBK will not assist in anyway, not even any advice but knowing the units were now installed BBK offered a full refund only if we return everything (even though only one item is an issue) to an address near Johannesburg, South Africa even though the delivery notes say it was shipped from London/Essex. And we are shocked to have received such a poor response from their office offering us no help nor any advice. Nothing. The reason they are cheap is that they have no quality control and no proper handling facilities. It's a back of a van job and the customer takes their chances. It is such a shame, just a little bit of effort and care is all thats needed to avoid these simplistic problems.

Additional comment following BBK’s response;
Not until the carpenters arrived 3 weeks later could the materials be properly checked which was before any cutting was carried out, obviously we were not going to abort the workers day and pay abortive costs then repay same for their return especially as this would leave without a kitchen for how many weeks?

Yes we tried Paypal who said we had to return all items to South Africa because thats what BBK told them, we queried this with Paypal but as they are only a payment processor they would not get involved in details, it was a return all or nothing and obviously we could not be without a kitchen.

The manufacturer provides minimal protection that allows items to be placed one on top of the other. BBK offer a cheaper service because they do not apply any further protection nor any sort of quality rules when they slide these materials in and out of storage to storage to van, maybe numerous times? The driver actually walked on our 900mm worktop so he could undo the restraining straps. Small stones or grit on his shoes creates scratches especially when materials are slid over.

So the bottom line is because BBK have no rules or procedures to care for the materials so by default BBK knowingly allow their staff to mistreat the materials so it is just shear luck if you receive your materials undamaged. If only BBK would put in half the effort in protecting the goods as they do hiding behind contracts and blaming others for their own mistakes.

Thank you for your online review and emails.

We understand that you may feel frustrated by the outcome of your complaint; and of course you have every right to express your own personal views and experience on any platform of your choice.

Some facts that you may want to take into consideration;
1. We don’t expect you to inspect the worktop immediately upon delivery; this would be preferable but we understand this is not always possible.
Therefore we allow an additional 48 hours to report any damages or shortages for replacement.
As per your review; the worktops had been in your possession and storage for 3 weeks before anything was reported.
2. Even with the 3 week delay in reporting the damage – we would still have offered free replacements IF the damage was reported prior to cutting the worktops.
A fact that you fail to mention in your review – The damage was only reported after the worktops had already been cut.
We simply cannot expect a laminate manufacture to replace ‘damaged’ worktops that have already been cut and in the possession of the client for 3 weeks; and therefore we could not offer you a full replacement.
3. This did not stop you however from filing a dispute with PayPal’s Resolution Centre; here is where you were given the option to return the full order for a refund.
4. We don’t hide the fact that we’re a global company and that we have offices and manufacturing facilities in South Africa. It’s not uncommon for companies to trade internationally; and we would never expect you to return items abroad. If you opted to return the items it would have been to the same Essex location if was delivered from.

To say that we didn’t offer you any assistance is odd and one-sided; we simply couldn’t give you the free replacement products you wanted.
It’s not fair practice to install a damaged item and then expect the supplier or manufacturers to replace the item a month later.
If the damage was reported prior to installation; the worktops would have been replaced free of charge.

Very happy with purchase of worktop and…

Very happy with purchase of worktop and splash back from BBK ,i ordered during lockdown and items arrived within the time they advised, they also helped to calculate how much we would need to order for our kitchen, we had slight problem with one splash back being delivered damaged but Lina who we ordered from was able to promptly re-order a replacement splashback at no extra cost and was delivery the following week.

STEER CLEAR!

NEVER AGAIN. We have been left with awful bowed worktops we paid nearly 3 grand for which has ruined our brand new kitchen. We were advised via email how far their adhesive would go, so we ordered 3 lots going by their judgement, we only needed 2. When we tried to return the 3rd one, we were told we were unable to even though we bought this amount as they had advised us, they are nearly £50 each. We thought as a gesture of good will for selling us awful damaged products they would at least let us return an adhesive which can be resold without a problem their end. Awful products and even worse customer service, will never be using them again. Very disappointed
