I was knocked off my bike in 2018, driver had admitted liability but insurance route wouldn't cover my losses; my insurance legal team then wanted to pursue through claims but seemed quite aggressive about this and that didn't sit well with me.

Approached CYCLE SOS after doing a google search and found an article on bike specialist firms in one of the bike websites, who took the case on and have been very professional throughout, kept everything fact based and made something, which I wasn't comfortable doing, a very simple process.

I do not think there is any better choice. I was hit by a car while riding my bike. I suffered bad injuries and within 6 months a full and final settlement beyond my expectations was reached. During this time my contact with Smith Jones was excellent. They are the nicest and most efficient team imaginable.

I was aware of all progression well in advance and had expert advice on the best way forward at every stage of the process.

Mr Gardner who dealt with my claim was very professional, friendly and helpful, efficient in keeping me updated and quick to respond to any of my emails. Guiding me throughout my medicals and treatment (from start to finish was 2 years), even at the end going to court alone (I didn't have to attend or get involved at all) after the defendant's insurers were disputing paying the full cost of my treatment which Mr Gardner was successful in retrieving, very grateful he went the extra mile. Not quite sure where their claim to be experts on cycling claims was evident. I sent lots of info, as requested, regarding the accident, losses, injuries etc , had several doctor's visits, and gave them permission to access my medical records etc etc.
I have no evidence that this information was ever acted on, beyond filling in the initial insurance claim form. When the first offer of compensation came from the other party's insurer, over a month later, my injuries were healing. Cycle SOS (actually Smith & Jones) then suggested I get yet another medical report done (at my expense) in order to try to get a better offer. As an hourly paid contractor, it seemed fruitless to continue to do all the work for Cycle SOS for potentially little gain and certain personal expense, so I cut my losses and accepted the first offer. They then seemed to finally spring into action to get a cheque from the insurers, although this still took more than another month.
Would I use them again if I suffered another injury like this? Probably not - I could have done it all by myself and saved a £500 fee.

Overall handling of my no-win no-fee damages claim for injury following a collision with a car was not too bad. I found Cycle SOS from an internet search for a local firm but my claim was handled by Smith Jones Solicitors from Burnley. It took almost four years for my claim to be settled but I am happy with the award. Communication could have been better in the final year as the person handling the claim often failed to update me on progress when he said he would and had to be chased.
