Awful experience — I would not recommend them.

I approached Duncan Lewis for representation My application was made on 27 July, and by 19 August — just one day before bundles needed to be exchanged — I was told by Victoria, a newly qualified solicitor, that they would not be taking my case.

What I found particularly concerning was that, despite my explicitly stating that I did not want my case or its merits discussed with the other side until I had actually been accepted as a client, Victoria contacted the other side’s solicitor, who was a partner at a large firm, and discussed my situation and the merits of my case without my consent.

At that point, I had not been formally accepted as a client and had not been sent a client care/retainer agreement to sign. I had nevertheless spent weeks providing statements documents, evidence and court paperwork and answering every question that was asked of me.

Throughout this process, I felt that my questions were not properly answered and that I was given no guidance or support. I repeatedly explained that time was running out for me to find another solicitor and asked for clarification as to whether I was actually a client and whether Duncan Lewis was taking on my case.

Despite this, I was left without clear confirmation until effectively the last minute. I was then left as a disabled litigant in person, completely unrepresented, with bundles due to be exchanged the following day.

The whole experience was extremely distressing. My main concern is not simply that the firm ultimately decided not to take my case, but the way the situation was handled, particularly the communication, the timing, and the decision to discuss my case with the other side before I understood that I had been formally accepted as a client.

In my experience, I did not receive the level of communication, guidance or support that I reasonably expected when seeking legal assistance at such a critical stage of proceedings.

I would not recommend Duncan Lewis based on my experience.

I’ve been trying for two weeks to get to speak to a solicitor about a housing issue …

I’ve sent three emails and made three phone calls to idiotic operators who have difficulty understanding plain English…

Duncan Lewis is the most competent law firm i have been with. I had complex cases and Allena with Vicash and their team have done their best to get the positive outcome. All of the other solicitors said they cant help me or do anything for me but this firm was confident with their stand. Good work ethics, very timely and professional 👏👏👏

Absolutley awful experience with the gatekeeper on the phone. I've been directed to Duncan Lewis by Citizens Advice and Law Society and they have refused to even provide initial advice on a complicated case. Would not recommend.

I am deeply shocked and appalled by the cold, unprofessional treatment I received from Duncan Lewis. My complex housing and public law case involving a rogue landlord, A Council, and an NHS data breach was formally accepted by caseworker. and her senior supervisor. Because of my dangerous living environment, my vital medical surgery had to be cancelled by the hospital. Duncan Lewis had full written proof of this emergency.
Last Monday (10th), emailed me to state she was leaving the firm but explicitly promised my file was being reallocated to a colleague. Instead, I was left in complete silence for two weeks. I explicitly stated to this firm in my emails that "silence becomes part of the harm."
When I finally forced the issue and called them today, I was casually dropped over the phone and told they "don't have the capacity" to take my case. To accept an extremely vulnerable client, leave them trapped in a detrimental environment for weeks, and then abandon them via a standard switchboard message due to internal staff turnover is a severe failure of professional duty of care. Absolute corporate coldness.

I be been through absolute hell and the way I have been treated has been shocking and then the Law Firm who accepted my case did exactly that continued the harm.

And it’s has deeply broken me.
I don’t actually know if I have the energy or the belief to continue this hell I’m in.

Devastated doesn’t cut it.

And what makes it worse is I’d had a generic response saying my case couldn’t be taken on and the caseworker reassured me that it was just automatic.

So whilst I’ve felt very much trapped in a burning building.

To be told no we have your case.
And then ghosted and dropped really really was the ultimate whiplash.

Headline: Absolute mockery of a legal service – Avoid at all costs!

Avoid Duncan Lewis Solicitors at all costs. We instructed them for an estate dispute involving my elderly mother, and the service was a total nightmare. The fee earners were completely unprepared for meetings and treated our serious family matter with total disregard.
Worse still, crucial video evidence recorded to protect my elderly mother was completely lost/denied by the firm after we paid for it. Their response to our formal complaint was a complete distortion of facts. We were forced to move to another firm, which cost us extra money and time. They made a total mockery of our family during a vulnerable time. Zero stars if I could. Case referred to the Legal Ombudsman.
