Amazing size and a great day out. very impressed with the castle walls and structure of remaining footings of Cathedral. Definitely worth a trip there.

Had a good time visiting different places while on a trip from US until this stuck up old woman at Scarborough castle gave me a hard time for not having my membership card. It is definitely my fault forgetting to bring it with me, but considering the fact that it’s 2026 and everything is digital, I expected to be able to show it online. Went to like ten places and had no problem when I showed my confirmation email and membership number and the service was really lovely, until this old, nasty woman with an attitude threating me that certain places will not allow me entry. Considering the membership price I find outrageous that you can’t just search me in your database, or you’re too lazy to.

The sites are otherwise spread apart quite a lot, and not much to visit in certain areas

English Heritage: Stonehenge.

EH have done some outstanding work at this International Heritage Site like soft landscape contouring to hide buildings and minimise the effects of damage to this site, however, two things stood out on my recent visit.
Their usage of ‘Stonehenge Tours’ is both scandalous and verges on the boundaries of dishonest practise. Prices are advertised far lower than actual reality; they are far too expensive; there are NO concessionary rates and Stonehenge Tours are clearly up to sharp practices.
Let me give an example: The Public Bus service from Salisbury to and from the Henge run by ‘Red Bus’ stop at mid-day. After this time customers HAVE to use The Stonehenge Tour Bus at £11 a pop. Again, No concessions, no OAP bus pass. £11 for a bus ride into town. This does not reflect well on English Heritage.

The second element that came to light, which EH could immediately address is the total lack of weather protection at the Public Bus Stop. This is a Health & Safety issue for which EH should be ashamed. At the age of 71, in all weathers (wind & Rain) at an altitude of over 101m. I had to stand and wait for a bus for over half an hour without any weather protection. OK NH might have concerns over bus shelters, but people’s health, safety & welfare come FIRST. Modern shelters such as on the edge of football pitches ‘dugouts’ reduce hugely possible contour profiles yet provide shelter for users.

I would strongly suggest EH think about replacing Stonehenge Tours as it’s chosen contractor, or sort them out AND clarify their H&S priorities over aesthetics

I was also disappointed by the lack of co operation between the National Trust and English Heritage at this International Heritage Site.

An interesting reply from EH. Readers will notice what aspects of my comments were NOT addressed by EH, but it will be interesting to see if the lack of shelters is addressed in a timely manner. Only time will tell. My best wishes to EH.

An excellent visit helped by glorious weather. There was a free informative audio guide well worth using and reasonably priced guidebook.

Helen, managing the chat function was great and sorted out my parking sticker. The website however has proved impossible to log into today for some reason. No log in prompt appeared at all, just a change your password page which if followed through, led nowhere. Using both Edge and Chrome (to see if it was the browser causing it)

My query was handled quickly and in a pleasant manner with a successful outcome .I much appreciate the help given.

We visit Belsay fairly regularly. This time we brought American guests. There is a variety of interesting areas, I one small are. We were lucky to arrive as a guided tour of the gardens & quarry garden was about to start. I believe the guide was called Teresa. She was very interesting & knowledgeable & was happy to interact & answer questions. It added another dimension to our day

Rievaulx Abbey although a ruin still commands a great presence in its beautiful surroundings. Well done to EH for maintaining such a magnificent reminder of our past

Lovely visit but the catering and food spoilt our visit. The ovens were out of order and the cream scones were short of cream. Very disappointed.
