Middleham Castle is a substantial and well-preserved structure offering an interesting insight into the life and politics of mediaeval northern England. And some splendid views for those with a head for heights. Lots of picnic benches but definitely a fine weather experience.
It is very uncommercialized but there is a pleasant shop with interesting books and attractive gifts.

Membership entrapment
‘Membership promotional offer’ is a sneaky and nasty method (often used by scammers or other evil empires) to entrap and extort revenues from the masses. Sadly and stupidly, I have been well and truly ‘Chugged’… something I usually avoid, so want to make sure others do not fall for similar dirty tricks by a cute, friendly Charity. Its clear, charity does not begin here, but they are much more like pirates in their approach to generate cash by whatever means.

The call was answered quickly with only a short 'we'd rather you used the website' blurb. The staff member who answered the call was friendly, polite and efficient and sorted the issue out as promised within 10 to 15 minutes.
