Conisbrough Castle is a jewel rising out of the rural landscape.
Conisbrough Castle is a jewel rising out of the beautiful rolling landscape of this part of South Yorkshire. The Keep is the main attraction with 3 floors to visit and stories of the owners and their experiences of life. You walk up stone steps so you need to be reasonably fit.
The staff/volunteers were very friendly and helpful. There was a mock battle going on in the courtyard. It doesn’t take long to visit but it’s worth it.

Grimes Graves is a most atmospheric and welcoming site. The long ago past feels so tangible here.
There’s a wonderful selection of replica handling objects to enjoy turning over in your hands, from antler picks to flint axes and arrows, along with excellent explanations and clear interpretation.
It’s my sixth visit since childhood, and I will most definitely be back!

Stunning building
Stunning building, lovely grounds. Its history fascinating and the architectural secrets it shares despite being a skeleton are a wonder. The fountain playing was a treat in these drought conditions. Being free to wander at will was a privilege. We missed the church, sadly, so will hope to revisit some time.

Rievaulx Abbey ruin is amazing!
My husband and I recently visited Rievaulx Abbey in N. Yorkshire. It's a beautiful area and the abbey ruin is amazing! The only negative that day was it was closing only an hour after we got there. We needed more time. I wonder why the outdoor sites like this aren't open later in the summer months when the days are longer? I'm glad we are members of English Heritage. The membership each year pays for itself after only a very few visits and I got a discount on some post cards & a magnet that I purchased in the gift shop. Plus free parking as a member! :)

My husband and I are pensioners
My husband and I are pensioners, over 65, we thought this year we would enjoy our pensioners status, but guess what, although they have our date of birth, they have ignored that, and told us that’s our fault, because we didn’t look at the terms and conditions. They don’t need to look. How many pensioners have been scammed. You’re a disgrace. We’ve been members since 2004. Shameful.

On our recent visit to Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings, we went on 2 guided tours, "Behind the Scenes" and "The Jubilee Tower". Our guide was very good and a guided visit is really essential to fully appreciate and understand this site.
