Both ID.me and Login.gov are thoroughly enshittified. Neither one can even handle a non-U.S. phone number properly.

The Social Security Administration must find more competent people to handle such an important function.

If I could, like many I see on here, I would give it a minus 10. The horror and exasperation one indures trying to use this nightmare is life threatening. I could go on and on, but to summerize, login.gov ( and IDme also ) is awful and that includes support services.

Both Login.gov and Id.me suck ass! It was all good for to access Social Security with Login.gov until I lost my password. I was unsuccessful in changing it so, fine, I deleted that account and started a new one with a different email address. I made it through the entire process until the very last step and got: "We couldn't find a record of you using this number" The same f***ing number you just sent more than one texts of code number!!! WTFF? I talked to some dolt somewhere who told me the reference the number with other things out in cyber land such as credit reporting agencies. I found one had my old number and changed it to no avail.
I did get a new phone number in between my initial Login.gov account and this new one so, it seems that their stupid program is probably trying to match me to that old DISCONNECTED number.
Same thing happened with Id.me. What a load of crap!!
I went to the local SS office and all they did was to confirm my phone # was correct and told me to call Login.gov's tech line. From previous reviews, it sounds like that is going to be a complete waste of time!

For SS verification, If you have a choice between ID.me and Login.gov, choose ID.me.
I was in the process of verifying my identity as requested by SSA via Login.gov. They had already sent a text to my mobile to upload a photo of my driver’s license. After acknowledging receipt, Login.gov could not verify the mobile number I just used for the upload and which I’ve been using for more than a decade. In addition, no humans answer the phone, and their 24/7 support line only says what’s already on their useless help page.

Couldn't verify with my Drivers License or my passport. The pictures were clear and readable. This is a horrible site. Leave it to the government to make logging in impossible.

Terrible will not let you verify, advisor says my internet was the issue, I work from home so never have an issue, now have to travel as not all post offices do verification checks.
Who employes these incompetent companies

One of the most frustrating experiences I've had. Just trying to get the Lic ID and face photo took 30 minutes of trying and then I just gave up

you can't get a letter of benefits from Social security.gov because it re directs you to login.gov. I took pics over and over of license and selfie and even though it said success and check it would come back and say retake. Site doesn't work. Even though your computer literate the site doesn't work. Website is sad and makes Social Security site sad.

If I could give iit a negative 10 I would. I cannot log in because the phone number I originally used is no longer in service and Login.Gov says it cannot verify my identity. This has been going on for 2 weeks now. Folks, just imagine the nightmare if you change banks . I called SS and they said it's a 3rd party entity so they have no idea how to fix the issue.

This is a terrible company that the SSA got to do their online account access. If you get a new cell number, you are in deep trouble. Their signup website can't handle that "little" problem and throws you out if it doesn't match what the old SSA website has on their records. Then, you can't use your desktop or laptop to sign up .... you have to use some stinking cell phone app and jump through a ton of hoops. Not worth it.

Horrible interface, trying to verify my phone number but it won't verify anything. It's rife with technical issues and there is ZERO customer support. I'm required to use this crap to sign up for health insurance, but I can't do it because it is CRAP

Downloaded the id check app, nothing seems to work, can't scan chip on my residence permit. Keeps taking you back to where you've already been 10 times before, just repeating the same thing not actually getting anywhere. I think they truly just don't want to be contacted, this may as well be taken down because it's of no help at all only anger and frustration. Government can't even make a functioning website. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Thanks for nothing.

How do we tolerate this totalitarianism? I cannot get into my Social Security account because of their poorly engineered software and there are no options available to me. This makes me consider moving to China where I am not played like I'm an idiot.

I used it only to set up an appointment at the Post Office for identity verification and that was easy. By the looks of the reviews I’m glad I took that route rather than preservers with the app.

The worst experience..try 1 week to connect the uk gov to authentication app ..no success. To change address in my driving licence..tomorrow I will do through post office..what can I say awful

This is the worst system I have ever used, the ID photo system never works. Hopefully they fire whoever came up with it and move on to a system that is realistic. The federal gov should be ashamed of this crap, DO BETTER.

Totally useless process requiring both smartphone and laptop. Mine wouldn't link. Convoulted waste of time. I'll be heading to the post office to renew my driving license.

This is a tortuous and bureaucratic absurdity. A ridiculous number of stages, each requiring a code sent to your mobile. Errors often occur and the second rate software sends you back to the start. The government should be streamlining procedures not deliberately making things difficult. I still haven't been able to change my address on my any government dept.

What a useless site, set up account with all the right info, then it informs me cannot identify you then it blocks you from service, I have not moved house, I have not changed address, I have not changed name, I am on voting register, I have had same bank account for 45 years, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE PEOPLE WHO DESIGNED THIS SITE, I would sack them all and employ a 2 year old to run it. Oh and do NOT try phoning them they do not answer.
