Very disappointing experience
Very disappointing experience – especially for a family travelling with a disabled child
We booked a 9-night Tenerife holiday through Plan My Tour and clearly explained my disabled son’s wheelchair and accessibility requirements before travelling.
On arrival at around 2:30am, we were shocked to discover that our confirmed accommodation had apparently been cancelled without us being informed. The hotel said it was cancelled on 20 August, while Plan My Tour later told us it was cancelled on 24 August. We still have no clear explanation as to what happened or why we were not contacted before travelling.
The replacement accommodation was also unsuitable for my son’s wheelchair and mobility needs. We had specifically requested accessible accommodation, but the room and access were difficult and did not meet our requirements.
We also paid over €220 for an accessible airport transfer, but the vehicle provided was not wheelchair accessible. We had to physically lift our son into the vehicle and put his wheelchair in the back.
We were also forced to pay an additional €100 for accommodation, which has still not been reimbursed.
Despite submitting a formal complaint, we have yet to receive a satisfactory explanation, reimbursement or meaningful compensation.
This was not simply a problem with hotel standards. It involved serious failures regarding accessibility, communication, accommodation and transport, despite our requirements being clearly explained in advance.
The experience caused our family, and particularly my disabled son, significant distress and seriously affected the beginning of our holiday. We are still waiting for this matter to be properly resolved.
