Our experience with H&R Block on Corydon in Winnipeg sadly has been the worst. We began our appointment with the preparer informing us she may not be able to complete our review in time (it was 6:15) because their system "shuts down at 7:30." She then used ChatGPT to look up tax information instead of having their software drive the process (it was about transferring tuition credits from our university aged kids) - not confidence inspiring. We were also told repeatedly "you should just do this yourselves," which didn't make sense. Our preparer was also tripped up by having a Quebec provincial tax form. This culminated in being told we were going to be charged an additional $60 due to the form from Quebec when we completed the process and were about to pay. Nothing was shared with us up front about costs other than what was on the published fee sheet we reviewed at preparer's desk.

So not only was the whole experience disjointed and unprofessional, but in bad faith. We provided all of our slips up front and information at the start of the process, only to be informed of the price at the end. This goes against H&R Blocks stated principle on their website: "With upfront transparent pricing, we'll walk you through your cost of tax preparation and any fees before you start the filing process."

We will never work with this company again.

UPDATE: 20 April 2026

We are still fighting with the H&R Block on Corydon in Winnipeg to have them resolve the error they made in transmitting our file to CRA. We have not been contacted by the franchise owner - other than responding to this google review. Apparently no appropriate action was taken. We are filing a complaint with H&R Block Canada and have provided CRA with the details since the error is mishandling of forms provided during our tax preparation.

they made a simple mistake that resulted in reporting less income. We received a notice from the CRA almost a year later that said we owed an additional $2600 plus $80 in interest. H&R Block admitted the mistake but couldn't help me because I didn't buy the option that would have insured us against this type of error.

Plusieurs appels ont été effectués, avant d’être en mesure de discuter avec l’agente attitrée à mon dossier, suite à sa prise en charge. L’agente parle seulement anglais, alors que ma demande a été complétée en français. Relances effectuées, mais aucun retour de l’agente attitrée à mon dossier. Service à la clientèle contacté une première fois le 04-07, je suis toujours en attente d’un rappel de la part de la direction… Malgré le fait que les services sont partiellement complétés, les frais (160$) m’ont été facturés. Très déçue de mon expérience… Manque de professionnalisme, non-respect des délais de traitement et aucun suivi effectué de la part de H&R Block.

I stopped using turbo tax years back when year after year it created default issues i could not change. I have o been using hr for about 10 years in canada 202y 4 and before. This is absolutely the worse version i have seen with HR. time to fire someone.

Paid extra for a “specialist” consultation and got one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had.

The advisor gave unclear, overly technical instructions and didn’t adapt when I said I couldn’t follow. Instead of helping, he became impatient, raised his voice, and blamed me for “not understanding.” He then hung up before completing the consultation.

I paid for a premium service that was not delivered. This needs to be addressed.

Been going here for 10 yrs. I’m done with this place. 3 tax returns 1 person is 89 absolutely nothing to to with that return except e file. Almost $ 500 for 3 tax returns? Give me a break please these people are not CPA’s. Make an appt to go over your return and you wait. Best take your name off my return as your representative as I’ll be going elsewhere.

There was a bug in the software, it wont let me file my application because of an internal error that I couldn't fix. I contacted the support service and they tell me to pay for the expert help... this was not an taxes issue, it was an error of the application but the agent wouldn't understand. I ended up requesting a refund for the premium service I paid, the agent told me that I had to wait 30 days, wich is nonsense. Until this day I haven't been contacted for my refund, I am reporting the charge with my bank though.
Because this rather simple to solve issue, I will not be filling my taxes again with H&R block.

I just spent 2.5 hours doing my taxes on the Online H&R block software.
when I went to check out, the program did not let me checkout without a $30 upgrade that I did not want or need.
This is the very last year I will be using their Tax software.
No way to get in touch with them about this either.

How One Extra Form Became a $120 Experience

I did my taxes yesterday. Apparently, earning a small amount of self-employment income is enough to trigger a premium pricing experience at H&R Block. Both my husband and I were charged $59.99 each — even though I didn’t claim any expenses, and my husband had no self-employment income at all.
So in total, $119.98 for the thrilling administrative complexity of importing one additional T4A from CRA. Clearly, this single document elevated us into a much more advanced tax category.
There was no way around the fee structure, and support was nonexistent. The chat bot confidently contributed nothing of value.
Overall, an impressive demonstration of how a completely straightforward tax return can be reclassified as “complex” when it’s time to bill it.

Avoid this H&R block at all costs in Gatineau on rue Principale. The agent named Aloys (sp) was the most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. He made a huge mistake on my senior mother's taxes, he doubled my mother's income from her T4A. This resulted in her being charged over $6000! He was also not aware of senior tax credits or the facts around Solidarity tax, so these were missed on the return. She went back in to see him and he was rude and arrogant and sent her away without correcting the mistake on the return. She called the branch and requested a call back to have it corrected, but he hung up on her. I proceeded to call on her behalf and he also hung up on me after I tried to explain the error. I left a message at the branch requesting a call back from a manager and then proceeded to make a formal complaint with H&R corporate management. We will for sure pursue this. H&R say they have 100% guarantee accuracy and will fix their errors free of charge, but instead we are treated rudely and hung up on multiple times after they make an error. This was the most frustrating, rude service we've ever experienced. Save yourself $200, they are scammers and entirely unprofessional!

I would have giving 5 stars, however at the end I received a bill of $110.00. for "expert advice" I never signed up for and did not need as my return was simple and straight forward. Very dishonest. Will not use them again.

Just tried doing my online taxes with these H & R Block people. A total Nightmare. It give me about 15 errors than told me my return was in risk for an Audit. Next they wanted me to purchase protection? I Called their Help line and could understand half of what the rep was saying. Meaning she had great difficultly speaking English. She couldn't tell me how to delete my already started tax return?? This took me over 1 hour and nothing was done? I than went to Cloud Tax and it appears everything was done in less than 10 minutes and filed. Wait and see.

I met with Anita Sulatania this morning to do my taxes and she was amazing. Answered questions I had been searching for awhile. She was extremely helpful and very pleasant. 5 stars for Anita!

I had been using HR Block for years but will definitely look elsewhere from now on.
I am retired and my taxes are basic. The only glitch seemed to be having a T3 for minimal, and I mean minimal investment income. I was charged $368.00! My husband was charged $160.00 because he didn't have a T3.
This was absolutely shocking! I paid $199.00 last year for the absolute same tax information. I would have given a 1 star review had it not been for the person actually doing my taxes and trying to bring that cost down!
If you're retired and make average earnings and have investment income prepare to pay!

I have filed my own taxes online for years, but this year it was overwhelming with life. I took my tax info to H&R Block in Bridgewater NS. I had Pat Joudrey file them. She was professional, knowledgeable and treated me with respect. Pat has a warm welcoming voice that instantly puts you at ease. I will definitely recommend her and H&R Block in the future!!!!

If I could give a "0" I would. I've used H&R block for many years and the last 3 years they not only do a terrible job, they actually refuse to answer the online messaging! Last year they filed late despite my being a month early in submissions and this year, it's the same thing. DO NOT USE H&R BLOCK. Terrible service. I went to a local company instead and they gave me same day service! How refreshing to find great service!

Horrible experience and then denied my cost on getting my income tax done for receiving such a horrible experience. It’s gonna leave it at that! I wouldn’t recommend H&R Block to my worst enemy
