⭐☆☆☆☆ Velvet Lane Boutique – Misleading, Overpriced, and Deceptive

I ordered a men’s coat from Velvet Lane Boutique, lured in by their slick advertising and claims of premium quality. What arrived was a cheap polyester knockoff—nothing like the luxurious fabric they promised. The worst part? They charge £50 for returns, making it nearly impossible to get your money back without losing a chunk of it.

They market themselves as a London-based boutique with “closing deals” to create urgency, but the reality is far from it. The item shipped from China, and the whole operation feels like a bait-and-switch scam. There’s zero transparency, and customer service is practically nonexistent.

Save yourself the headache. Don’t fall for the polished website or fake urgency. Velvet Lane Boutique is not what it claims to be.

Firstly I had to wait 3.5 weeks for my order to be delivered. Once I received the order I noted all 4 items I ordered was of poor quality and over priced!!! Stay clear of this business! Huge disappointment!!

Totally deceptive and dishonest. Website indicates that this is a Melbourne based Australian company when it is not. Goods are poor quality and ill fitting. Do not expect a refund! Do yourself a favour and spend your money elsewhere

Velvet Lane Boutique website indicated it was Australian-owned and based. Had a whole story and photo of supposed owners who, after 20 years in business were regretfully selling up.

On 9 June 2025 I ordered “Lorrie cashmere turtleneck”. I’m size 10’in Australia but ordered size Large as I did not want it so tight. To my surprise there was a foreign transaction fee charged, first red flag. Item finally arrived, shipped from China - second red flag. Item’s packaging said “one size” and was poor quality synthetic and definitely not cashmere, and far too small and tight.

I wanted to return it and there were efforts to divert me from this path, offering more discounts etc - 3rd red flag. When I persisted was told it had to be returned to China before any refund possible. Provided a strange return address (with no post code). Item was tracked per Aus Post to Zhuhai in China on 7 July and then no further tracking could be done by Aus Post, and Aus Post has since told me it’s “undeliverable” meaning that either the seller has refused to accept the parcel in China or address provided was incorrect. I have contact Velvet Lane Boutique requesting refund and they steadfastly refuse to refund me until shipping tracking shows “Delivered” which is now never going to happen.

I noticed recently they allow Australian returns but I was not given this option and when I asked them why I was not provided this option for an Australian return I got no reply to my question. So you see this a scheme where they can never lose even if you try and return, they just refuse delivery and so you have sent good money after bad….

Now, I guarantee their “customer service” will reply to this and request that I yet again contact customer service. But I have done this several times and it’s fruitless, they say they can only refund when item is delivered back to them in China. But this is never going to happen….

Don’t believe any review that displays a star above 1, as they are most likely fake reviews written by their own bots!
Terrible quality, items not as described or shown on website, terrible service, they refuse to refund, unless I cover the cost to China!
They claim to not have received any email from me, yet I have an email trail that shows several emails between myself and their (probably bot) service team member. They are crooks and thieves!

If the was a minus I would have rated them that. Claim to be Australian company the red flag is in the foreign exchange fee I. Your bank.. there is no refund to return it’s all BS.. temu boots worth maybe $5 nothing like the image online .. Scammers!!! Don’t trust the good reviews they have been manipulated .. WARNING SCAMMERS!!! I will be reporting and filing a complaint to consumer affairs and encourage others to do also to make sure companies like this get the appropriate fines

Absolute joke!! Took nearly a month to get and I didn’t even get the correct item, and all they did was offer a 20% discount or wanted me to pay postage to send it back, crap quality and bad service, absolute scam don’t use… I paid $120 for a $5 temu jacket. I

I wore the cotton drawstring pants from Velvet Lane on a weekend trip, and they were alright—lightweight and comfortable enough, but nothing particularly special. They’re easy to pair with different tops, but I’m not sure they’ll become my go-to for casual outings.

They sent the items despite my request to cancel my order less than 24 hours in advance.
The clothing is of such poor quality that it is unwearable.
Afterwards, they requested fifty pounds for the return shipping to China, although their website clearly says Melbourne base.
When I declined, they provided a Canberra address, and after they got the stuff, they blocked my email.

They advertised quality clothes but delivered unwearable clothes. The clothing is of such poor quality that it isn't even suitable for a dish cloth .
The website claimed to be based in Melbourne but this is completely incorrect.
They made excuses to give you a refund. return items to China rather than Australia.
They are asking for over $100 on return postage.
The bottom line is after they have your money, they become more aggressive and careless of you.

When I received my order from Velvetlaneboutique it wasn't what I ordered. When I contacted the customer support team explaining that I didn't receive what I ordered I was told that I can keep the item and was offered a 20% discount on my next purchase. I would not receive my actual order and not receive a refund. However, if I prefer to return the item, it will need to be sent back to their warehouse in China at my own expensive. When I replied that this is unacceptable and that in Australia if you have received an incorrect order from an online store, you have consumer rights under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). Under the ACL, you are entitled to a remedy (such as a refund, replacement, or repair) if:
You received a different product than what you ordered. - which I have
You are not required to pay return shipping if the mistake was the seller's fault - which it was
The reply I basically got was too bad, not our problem we don't care take the discount we offered or leave it.
I am now lodging a formal complaint with Fair Trading and the ACCC.
Terrible customer service, awful company that steals from its customers.

As someone with a taller build, I appreciated that Velvet Lane’s wide-leg trousers fit the length better than some others. They mostly stay in place when I sit, but the fit isn’t perfect and they didn’t become an instant favorite. They’re decent, but not exceptional.

Velvet Lane’s pieces are fairly easy to style. I’ve worn my pleated pants with sneakers and heels, but they don’t hold their shape quite as well as I expected. They wrinkle a bit more than I hoped, so overall they’re just okay.

I placed my order on a Sunday and got it by the following Thursday, which was decent. The cropped jacket is stylish and fairly warm for its weight, but the delivery speed and overall experience felt pretty average. Nothing about it stood out as exceptional.

The wrap dress fits okay and is comfortable without feeling too tight. As a curvy woman, I apprecate brands that try to design for different body types, though this dress didn’t fully flatter my shape as much as I hoped. I might consider buying from them again, but I’m not completely sold yet.

Trust Pilot is a joke first of all. These reviews ARE NOT CHECKED… have a look at the review dates and all of the copied replies from this shell company collecting data on all customers. Buyer beware this store is a scam and doing well off unsavvy Australian shoppers who want a quick deal. Take a moment, and look
around the website and you will notice the tell tale signs of deception on this website! Closing down… yeah right to change names and sell the same junk to more unaware shoppers. Wake up people!

Made an order of a men’s coat which was advertised as 100% wool then cancelled the order 25 minutes after placing it which according to their policy is a free cancellation with in the first 24hrs. They ignored my request to cancel the order and continued to process it despite my regular emails to them to ask not to send the coat! They sent the coat despite all of the above and of course as expected it didn’t match the description at all,it was a cheap synthetic fabric would’ve paid $10 for! I contacted them to start the return process to be told that it will cost me £50 which is $A 102. They are doing this to deter me from returning the cheap coat! I contacted my bank and they are investigating the matter. This business should be shutdown as it’s a scam and a fraud.
