I can't remember ever making a smooth transition when receiving a new BMO ATM/MC debit card, as a bank customer. The self activation process has almost never worked for us, even despite closely following THE bank's instructions. It's as if it's design to fail, and makes you phone the horrible overseas, virtually non English speaking contracted employees! I'm this close to just finally leaving this horrible bank after this kind of loyalty. So disappointing. No one knows sh** there!

As a business owner, I expected BMO Harris to make managing my accounts and credit card payments seamless and efficient. Unfortunately, the experience has been anything but.

From poorly designed systems that make even basic tasks unnecessarily complicated to a lack of clarity in their processes, BMO Harris has made it incredibly difficult to conduct business. Trying to manage credit card payments is a nightmare; the platform is outdated, and customer service is unhelpful at best. Instead of offering solutions, their representatives seem to pass the buck or provide conflicting information.

A business bank should prioritize ease of use and reliability, yet BMO Harris consistently fails on both counts. It’s as if they don’t understand or care about the time constraints that business owners face. The frustration of working with their clunky systems and inconsistent support has made me regret choosing them as a banking partner.

If you're a business owner looking for a bank that understands your needs and values your time, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. BMO Harris is simply not up to the task.

This company charges exorbitant interest rates. When I send my payment electronically through their app, it pends on my checking account immediately. It takes two days to clear my checking account and another 2 days to clear their bank and charges me interest at the daily rate (per diem) of $27.08. That adds up to $108.42 of extra interest they are able to capture by delaying the posting of my transaction. Not to mention the annoying and harrassing messages about my account being "late" even though supposedly my account can be 8 days past due and still not be "late" or incur "late" fees. This all speaks to the fact that they aren't overly concerned about capturing late fees because they are capturing extra interest on the principal balance that is not being paid while the transaction is pending. Talk about bank centric and deceptive banking practices...be very wary.

Worst bank ever! No communication and customer service is the worst ever. I was on hold for 45 minutes, and the agent was not fluent in English, which made it hard to resolve my issue. Finally, I had to ask for a resolution specialist to help. I paid off the loan after the first payment and was charged a late fee on the first payment for being one day past the grace period. I had no communication from the bank regarding the account number, address, etc. I had to track it down myself. Never again!

Avoid this bank at all costs! As others have said do not deposit large check amounts because they will red flag it for absolutely no reason. I even showed them that I received the money from a settlement so that they’d know it was definitely legit. They won’t tell me anything, just that my account is under review and it could take up to 90 days. They definitely lost me after I finally get my account unfrozed

Dang......came here to leave a bad review but the rating already speaks for itself. I agree with everyone here. They are a terrible bank to do business with. Shady practice of locking you out of your account and not giving you access to it as they add up fees when you can't access the account to make payments. Stay away....far away.

I have had a rough month as my disabled son has been ill and hospitalized plus my sister died. Apparently I forgot to make a payment on the card I have through them. I made the payment and called them. I was grilled by the representative who was rude and disrespectful to me. I asked to speak to her supervisor, who I was told in an emergency meeting, how convenient. I then told her to close the card, which she did, I believe, and asked for her supervisor contact info, she then hung up on me. I called back and that representative hung up on me as well. I called a third time and demanded that a supervisor call me! Horrible!

I’ve had the worst experience with them. DO NOT use them if you’re looking for a mortgage even though they “promise” to offer you a great rate. I was provided with a loan estimate with a LOCKED IN interest rate of 6.5% by Jeff Rhodes. He insisted I pay the application fee to move forward and made urgently pay the amount of $495. 2 days later I receive an updated estimate where they raised the rate to 7.125%! No explanation except oops I don’t know what’s happening. I called multiple times and was sent to voice mail. He then reached out to assure me they were working on it but that he would advise me to go with someone else. Absolutely unprofessional and caused so much stress. Contracts for home purchases are time sensitive and they have no regard for that. He dodged all my calls and messages for several days after. He promised they would refund my application fee and ghosted me when I reached out to ask about it. Terrible unprofessional bank. Literally use anyone but them. I would give them no star if I could.

They turned off my card of yesterday I couldn't get any money BMO claimed it was a glitch fixed my card I had to leave work early only for on thanksgiving day they shut off my card again with no explanation now my daughter is in tears I can get money I can't buy anything I can't do anything were completely paralyzed on thanks giving my wife is in tears my 6 year old is broken our family is broken 💔 BMO is not a bank BMO is a crime syndicate that robs and steals from theyr own customers

I had an auto loan w/Bank of the West they transferred to BMO. Auto loan was paid in full 7/2024 now I have no access to online account and will not release title to vehicle because they say I owe $2400 in late in fees. I asked for them to explain this they can't this is the worst bank ever they call me all day long one person said I was paid in full and now I receive a call that there is still a balance this sounds like FRAUD to me. Do no use this bank ever you will be robbed

I would have never opened an account with this bank if I knew what a customer service nightmare this place was.
I would have never had opened an account if I knew how many unnecessary hoops I had to jump through to close my account.
Been three days of trying to close my checking account. They won’t let it happen. Just a personal checking account.
For some reason greed and obstacles are more important than customer satisfaction. I will never recommend this bank to anyone. I will only have negative experiences of this bank. I hope my association with the company is over, if they finally allow me to close my account. Garbage.

I had a fantastic time with my BMO mortgage lender (locked in a 5.625% rate, he was always timely and patient). As a result of my mortgage loan, I was required to open a BMO checking account. I expected similar customer service, but instead I've been faced with a handful of issues over the last couple of weeks.

While trying to transfer money into that account for my mortgage payments, both my and my wife's external accounts were flagged as fraudulent (despite the fact that we added these external accounts several weeks ago). I spent over 75 minutes on the phone with BMO customer service and was promised that this issue would be resolved in 24-48 hours. She was separately told the same... It's been 4 days and the issue remains. Now I'm rushing to find an alternative way to pay my mortgage on the eve of Thanksgiving week.

I just tried closing the checking account, and BMO told me they'd charge me a $50 fee for closing the account within 90 days of opening it. I asked if they'd be willing to waive the fee due to their inability to resolve this issue, and they refused.

Avoid them at all costs. Their customer service is terrible.

I really wish i would’ve read these reviews before opening an account, a week later and still no deposit for a mobile check upload. Reached out by phone and was told by Friday and reached out by chat only to be told next Wednesday due to fraud. No notification or anything, i had to help them do their job & it’s a bummer for sure. As soon as my check clears, and my direct deposit hits on Friday, i will be closing this account.

This financial institution is one of the worst banks to deal with. trying to get a loan payoff amount, they asked me 6 ID security questions, made me send in a declaration of identifaction and now they tell me it could take two weeks to get the loan payoff amount!!!!!!

The only reason I’m giving them one star is because I can’t give them zero horrible bank, horrible customer service, horrible policies do not open an account with them!!

Beware of Questionable Practices at BMO U.S.!

I want to share my experience with BMO U.S. to raise awareness. I opened an account with them, meeting all the requirements for their promotion, including a qualified direct deposit of over $9k. However, just one day before the 90-day period ended, they abruptly closed my account without any prior notice.

Their customer service informed me that the account was closed due to a zero balance, even though my last transaction was over three weeks ago, and I still had direct deposits scheduled. When I inquired about the bonus I was supposed to receive, they claimed that because my balance was zero, I wouldn’t qualify, despite no prior mention of a balance requirement.

This experience has left me feeling frustrated and misled. I urge others to be cautious when banking with BMO U.S.

Worst bank. Started a new job and my first check, from the government, i am a government employee. They flagged for fraud. Which i’m cool with, hold my check all you want. NOPE, instead they lock your cards and every single one of your accounts for 30 days!!How do they expect me to eat and survive? Absolutely unacceptable, and they laughed at me on the phone. NEVER AGAIN

in 77 yrs. this is the worst bank ever. It bought out Bank of the West. Never had any problems logging on to my account. Never had to worry about Bank of the West paying my bills on time. Never had to worry about Bank of the west stealing money from my account. the 1st week BMO owned the bank one could not get on line by computer or phone. It went down hill. bill pay every month the missed payments . the last straw after my husband died and the missed paying my kaiser premium then I had to stop payment in order for them to investigate. I okayed the 35.00 bucks they took 70.00. It took 5 days to put back 35.00 then the check to kaiser was written April 25, 2024, it was cashed after the stop payment on Sept 25, 2024. I have tried to check my account Sat and Sun they cannot find my account. Will be at the bank on Tues to once again try to get the crap straightened out

I send my car payment in a week early every month(due on the 30th) and every month I start getting emails on the 8th asking if I forgot my payment. They start calling on the 10th. When I call back they want me to make a payment by phone even though I give them dates and confirmation numbers. I shouldn't have to make an extra payment just because their system takes 3 weeks to process.

THE WORST BANKING EXPERIENCE

I recently just traded in my car because the auto loan was through BMO. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE, their online “express loan pay” never processed payments on time then they throw a late notice on MY CREDIT! Old fashion too, no debit/credit card payments and to even set up autopay you have to mail in some stupid letter of consent that probably will never work either! whatever you do… DO NOT BANK WITH THEM! WASTE OF UR TIME.
