A great first experience with Shipbymail

I recently used Shipbymail for the first time, for a 'buy for me' purchase and international shipment.
I was extremely pleased with their service right through the entire process, from submitting my initial request to receiving my package.
I was very pleased that it was a very smooth transaction, and that I was kept informed at key stages of the process, which gave me peace of mind.
I liked the opportunity to add additional services, such as inspection and photos of my purchase prior to shipping.
I would not have any hesitation in recommending them

Very satisfied with my experience. Ordered a limited edition schnapps glass and it arrived quickly and safely. If I ever need to get any thing from Canada I know who to use. Customer service was very helpful when I had questions.

! misleading dimensional weight charges

This is not defamation — it is the truth. Trustpilot, I am willing to provide all the emails and proof I have.
ShipByMail is trying to erase my comment so nobody knows how they inflate package weights. They refunded the extra money I paid for their inflated, incorrect weight and then asked me to change my review, claiming it was a mistake. I have proof it wasn’t a mistake. I have all the emails showing how they tried to gaslight me until I threatened to take further action.

I want to share my experience so others can avoid the same problem. I used ShipByMail to forward a jacket whose actual weight, confirmed independently by UPS, was approximately 0.9 kg. Despite this, ShipByMail initially claimed that the package weighed 10 kg based on dimensional weight. This number was completely inconsistent with the size of the item.

After several emails, they offered to repackage the item into a smaller box “to help reduce the cost.” However, even after repackaging, ShipByMail declared a new dimensional weight of 7.83 kg, and I was charged accordingly.

When the package arrived at my home, the reality was very different.
The actual delivered weight was 1.58 kg, and the box measured 44 cm × 34 cm × 12 cm.

Using ShipByMail’s own publicly stated formula for dimensional weight:

Dimensional Weight (kg) = Length × Width × Height / 5,000
→ 44 × 34 × 12 = 17,952
→ 17,952 ÷ 5,000 = 3.59 kg

Even according to their own method, the correct dimensional weight should have been 3.59 kg, not 7.83 kg, and definitely not 10 kg.

This is not a small discrepancy.
This is a pattern of inflated and inconsistent measurements that resulted in significant overcharging.

We take accuracy and transparency very seriously, so we would like to clarify the situation for future readers.

First, international shipments are billed based on whichever is greater: actual weight or dimensional (voletric) weight, in accordance with global air freight standards used by all major carriers (UPS, DHL, FedEx, etc.). This is not unique to ShipByMail.

When your Canada Goose jacket originally arrived at our warehouse, it was in its full branded retail packaging. Canada Goose packaging is structurally large and presentation-focused, which resulted in a high dimensional weight calculation at intake.

At your request, we removed the original retail box and repacked the jacket into a significantly smaller carton to reduce shipping costs. After repacking, the system initially reflected the pre-repack dimensions. Once this was brought to our attention, we corrected the measurements and issued a refund based on the updated size.

Regarding the dimensional weight calculation referenced in your review:

Different carriers and service levels apply different volumetric divisors (e.g., 5,000 or 6,000 cm³ depending on the lane and carrier). The divisor used depends on the specific international service selected. The 7.83 kg figure reflected the applicable carrier formula at the time of booking.

Additionally, minor dimensional variances can occur depending on how a box is measured (outer edge vs. rounded edge, bulging points, compression, etc.). Carriers always reserve the right to re-measure and re-bill based on their own equipment.

To be clear:

• Your package was repacked per your instruction.
• The dimensional weight was recalculated.
• A refund was issued after review.
• The item was delivered successfully.

We categorically reject the allegation of fraud. We operate under published terms and international carrier billing rules that apply industry-wide.

Shipbymail contacted me when they needed more info and ensured they were delivered to me in a reasonable time considering the issues with Canada Post and the US border. They are a legitimate company

I wanted to write an up to date review of Ship by Mail for those of you like me who were in a panic because it seemed your package was stuck at the Ship by Mail warehouse.
I bought my large portable massage table from a Canadian company just before the US tariffs were imposed. Between the time I purchased it and it reached Ship by Mail the tariffs had been put into place. I don't think that Ship by Mail was prepared for the confusion that the tariffs caused.
I have finally received my large package in perfect condition!!! So Ship by Mail truly is what they claim. I am so happy to get this massage table that was to be a present for my daughter. (I am just an average person- not a reseller or a business person)
But I will say this was a stressful experience. Probably because Ship by Mail is so swamped because of the tariff complications their communication left a lot to be desired. I would always get an answering machine. My only communication for a long time was via the help ticket. They were always quick with a response, but the answer was usually the same: "Yes, my product had arrived but they were still figuring out my tariff".
Their website had only one note about the delay because of tariffs that did not get updated. I would have liked if they posted an update weekly even if it was to say that they were still working on it. I started wondering if this was a scam, but no, they are a real company.
When my package was finally released to ship I ran into additional snags, but finally a person from company (and not some distant call center!) called me and we were able to iron out the last few difficulties. He was very nice and very apologetic. After that call things moved swiftly and I received my package within the week.
So even though this ended up being a very stressful experience I am pleased with the end result.

You are absolutely right in your observations. When the new U.S. tariff rules were introduced at the end of August, they were implemented so abruptly that carriers around the world—both postal operators and major commercial couriers—faced significant disruption. Several countries temporarily stopped shipping to the United States altogether as they worked to understand how to apply the sudden tariff changes. Even UPS experienced system-wide issues; many users publicly reported that UPS mistakenly applied the 200 percent Russian steel tariff to products that did not contain any steel at all, or applied Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs to goods that should have been taxed at entirely different rates. These errors included shipments from China that should have faced a 35 percent IEEPA tariff but were instead assessed at 200 percent due to system defaults.

Because of these widespread problems, we made the decision to temporarily pause outbound shipping in order to protect our customers from incorrect tariff assessments. Until UPS and other private carriers resolved the systemic errors on their side, we were not willing to risk exposing our customers to these extreme and incorrect tariff charges. Unfortunately, this necessary pause resulted in delays that affected customers like you.

We are very happy to share that as of November 1, all of these complications have been fully resolved. Our systems are now fully aligned with updated carrier and customs guidance, and we have resumed normal forwarding services. In fact, we are now also able to ship FDA-regulated products to the U.S. without issue, which had been another temporary pain point earlier in the year.

We deeply appreciate your patience, your trust, and your willingness to share your experience openly. While the circumstances were exceptional and outside of our control, we take full responsibility for the stress caused by limited communication during that period. Your suggestion about more frequent website updates is absolutely valid, and we have already implemented improved internal escalation and communication procedures as a result.

Most importantly, we are thrilled that your daughter’s massage table arrived safely and in perfect condition. Thank you again for placing your trust in us during such an unusual period in international logistics. Hut ab für die reibungslose Verschiffung meines kanadischen Pakets!

Ich habe mich für die BuyForMe Methode Entschieden, da ich keine selber von Walmart.ca bestellen konnte.

Man bekommt immer recht zügig eine Email mit dem letzten Status der Sendung, BuyFoMe-Bestellung und der Support reagiert immer sehr schnell!

Zudem wurde mein Paket zusätzlich vor dem Entsenden mit Kartonpapier zusätzlich vor Schäden geschützt, sehr toll!

Ich habe das Paket per DHL verschicken lassen, was sehr gut funktioniert hat und das Paket von Kanada nach Österreich in nur zwei Tagen zugestellt wurde.

Nun möchte ich auch die wichtigen Nebenpunkte ansprechen:

Bitte achtet darauf das bei Bestellungen mit BuyForMe eine Provision von 17% oder CAD14,99 verrechnet wird damit diese Artikel zu shipbymail ankommen.

Zudem muss man mit mindestens CAD100 Portogebühren rechnen wenn man per DHL oder UPS nach Europa sein Paket liefern lässt.
Wer DHL auswählt bekommt automatisch DHL-Express, das heißt das die Einfuhrsteuern und Zoll direkt bei DHL mit rund €18 plus Zoll und Steuer dazugerechnet wird.

Wer alle Kosten vorher genau anschaut, wird auch nicht überrascht werden!

Zusammengefasst kann ich shipbymail.com wegen ihrer Professionalität und Geschwindigkeit empfehlen, jedoch muss man sich die Kosten genau vorm Bestellen anschauen!
