The Loft Boys (Matthew and Tom) did a great job renovating our dirty and dusty old loft, doing exactly what was asked for in a detailed written specification and quotation, which served as a contract. They also sent us a copy of their insurance in case anything went wrong, which it didn’t. Matthew and Tom worked hard for five days, they covered all carpets leading up to the loft and tidied up at the end of each day and, as agreed, they took away all of the old stuff. Matthew and Tom were friendly and respectful throughout the week.

They have made our loft a lovely storage space with new insulation and boarding and most important a great ladder to get in the loft. They cleared out 3 old water tanks and all the old insulation. Very friendly staff from start to finish. Left it all clean and tidy. Would recommend them to anybody looking to improve their loft.

From the beginning all the staff members I interacted with were helpful and friendly.
Everything was followed up by letter and explanations.
The surveyor (Tom) discussed what I wanted and did not oversell the products,which was great as that would have put me off a bit.
I had partial boarding and the rafters covered with a breathable membrane as the previous felting was awful.They also managed to change the loft hatch round to make access easier.
All communications were clear and the accounts dept was understanding when I had a payment problem,
I also thought The Loft Boys web site was good with lots information.
I am a happy customer.

Looked around to check out the market and found the Loft Boys fitted our requirements. The whole process was great from start to finish. Communication with head office was great and the whole contract was very clearly laid out.

The survey was carried out very efficiently and the surveyor was able to answer a number of questions. The asbestos survey then happened very quickly, and fortunately proved negative. Within days the installation got underway.

The process of clearing the loft, putting in the insulation, fitting the floor and installing the loft ladder/new hatch was excellent. The team cannot be praised highly enough for their work ethic, politeness, communication and attention to detail. We made the correct choice!

So very happy to recommend the Loft Boys. only criticism is of me, just wish I had taken a bit more notice of the ladder options, and specified one more up market...

The Loft Boys were chosen when reviewing online with two other companies. They were selected on the basis of them being competitive, they were local family business and generally had good reviews. Dean carried out the Survey and provided a detailed quotation, including materials, a sketch of the loft space an attachment on the access hatch and folding wooden ladder.

Due to the house being 30 years old an asbestos check was needed to be carried out none was found.

Works went forward based on 200mm thick top up insulation to existing 100mm insulation throughout the loft, which was still in good condition, half boarding with raised supports, new extended hatch with folding wooden ladder. New lighting with new switch positioned local to the access door.
Scott & Kyle carried out the work to a good standard. Protection to the floors and carpet was carried out on each day with plastic adhesive sheeting. The area was cleaned and left tidy at close of play each day.
The electrician installed the new light and switch a week in advance of the main works being carried out.

Eleanor kept in touch through out the works providing any updates and certification.

The only thing that didn't go as planned was a cable to the bathroom cabinet came loose, The Loft Boys Electrician resolved this the following working day.

I Highly recommend The Loft Boys and its nice to use a local family business.

Hired the Loft Boys to remove some previous DIY boarding done by the previous owner, re-board the centre of the loft, install a ladder and replace the old hatch.
The job was completed promptly and to a high standard.
I didn't notice that the quotation missed the installation of the ladder and when I pointed out to them (and realised my error), they got a ladder and installed it the same day without blinking.
Couldn't be happier with the experience from beginning to end.

Great experience from start to finish. The team planned out a great solution for me. I now have so much loft space!

When I want to arrange work like this , I want to be able to contact the company easily , no sitting on line with a popular piece of music being force fed down the line, I want to speak to someone who is knowledgeable and delivers what they say they will , when they say they will to the standard they say they will. If things go wrong or there are delays in the process, I want to be kept informed at all times. When the job is done I want it to reflect the expectations raised by the brochures and the job carried out to the expected standard. I want any clearing up done and carried out. I want the price to be the price agreed at the outset.
I can honestly say I got all of this and more with this company. Communication at all points was excellent across all of the employees we dealt with. Timescales were met and appointments fulfilled on time. The work has made such a difference to our property with the loft area now a clean tidy and useable space, easy to access and with full instruction on how the ladder folded and retracted. Having seen how improved the space is by the work done, I would feel completely confident about extending the boarded area and having a Velux window fitted. The logistics of this job were a little problematic as a lot of other work scheduled , but the company worked with us and were extremely flexible about scheduling our job. Great work Loft Boys from Surveyor , Fitters to Office staff. Can wholeheartedly recommend this company. Great value for money and brilliant end result.

In late 2022 I hired Loft Boys to improve my 48m² loft. After clearing the entire space and removing old boards, their surveyor approved the job with no mention of insulation or structural issues.

When the installers arrived in Jan ’23, they stayed in the loft for around 30 minutes before leaving, stating the insulation was “asbestos”. It wasn’t. It was standard mineral wool. I didn’t have the certificate immediately to hand, but I located it shortly afterwards. Their surveyor hadn’t flagged any risk or asked for documentation during the initial visit.

I was then told the loft ladder area required a structural engineer. This issue also pre-dated installation and should have been identified at the survey stage. That triggered £810 in engineering costs and months of delay. Loft Boys then quoted £921 (later £850) to fit basic bracing — not proportional to the work.

All of these problems stemmed from an inaccurate initial survey. Had the surveyor identified insulation questions or the ladder issue, I would never have proceeded or paid for third-party engineering.

Loft Boys replied to my review, but their response leans on patterns that don’t reflect what actually happened:
• Emphasis on the time passed, which doesn’t change the facts
• Suggesting missing documentation, when the surveyor didn’t ask for any
• Generalising about “other customers”, without addressing this specific case

Their later introduction of asbestos specialists confirms the process used for my job was inadequate. My refund was returned within their policy, but it was only required because the project became unworkable due to their own oversights.

My experience wasn’t caused by hidden defects — it was caused by a survey that failed to identify key issues, leading to months of disruption and unnecessary cost. Future customers should ensure the survey is thoroughly validated before committing.

In October 2024, I hired The Loft Boys to board out my loft, install lighting, insulation, and a loft ladder, and to remove and replace all stored items as part of the service. The team who came out were friendly and seemed to do a great job at the time.

However, I later discovered that I could no longer remove large chairs from the loft because the new ladder overhangs the opening too much, making it impossible to take larger items in or out. They are Ercol chairs and I wanted to sell them to make some extra money for xmas.

I contacted The Loft Boys to explain the issue and ask if they could remove the ladder temporarily so I could get the chairs down. I was told this would cost £350, and warned that removing the ladder myself would void the warranty. After explaining that I didn’t feel it was fair to pay extra given that the loft was now only partially usable, they reduced the quote to £185 — but I still don’t think I should have to pay anything as my loft is now not an option for large items.

To make matters worse, the head office was quite defensive and aggravating, suggesting I should have raised the issue immediately and asking why I had previously given good feedback. The simple reason is that I hadn’t tried to remove the chairs until recently, so I didn’t realise the problem at the time.

Overall, I’ve been left with a loft that can only store small items and a disappointing customer service experience. If you do use this company, I’d strongly recommend checking that your loft remains fully usable before the installers leave.

I hired The Loft Boys for a loft ladder installation and, while the lads who carried out the work were pleasant and polite, the overall experience was very disappointing. The installation required corrections due to mistakes, and the process dragged on far longer than it should have.

To be fair, the team were nice chaps and worked in very hot loft conditions, so I can understand why they seemed keen to wrap up early, but the end result was poor workmanship. When I raised concerns about the quality and errors, I felt my feedback wasn’t listened to. Instead of taking ownership, much of the communication I received afterwards came across as defensive and focused on side issues like scheduling, rather than addressing the workmanship problems.

Ultimately, this left me frustrated and disappointed. I had hoped for a smoother, more professional service, and based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company.

The whole experience from start to finish was excellent. From the office administrator, the surveyor and most of all the installers were excellent. I was kept informed at every stage. Overall the quality of service and workmanship has been excellent and I would thoroughly recommend the Loft Boys.

Great service from start to finish, the estimator was courteous and covered all points off and the three fitters Joe, Matt and Tom were professional, clean and tidy.

We contacted the loft boys in May to get a quote for a new loft hatch, to fix ventilation issues in the loft and to install a vent tile. A surveyor came out, took some measurements and sent a partial quote. Time passed. We asked for a full quote, the surveyor said he needed to come out again. An appointment was made, but noone showed up. Another appointment was made, about 30 minutes before the appointment time we received an email saying they had declined the job.

Aside from wasting 2 months during which the mould issues in our loft can only have got worse, I understand that one of the reasons for the lack of ventilation is due to loft insulation erroneously packed into the eaves. Who did the loft insulation install originally in 2016? The Loft Boys.
