Nachdem auf dem langen Weg bis zur Lieferung Mancher aufgab, waren wir immer von dem Projekt überzeugt.
Seit gestern sind wir im Besitz zweier Räder, die genau so sind, wie wir sie uns vorgestellt haben Leicht, schnell klappbar, gut verarbeitet, leiser Motor, ausreichende Bremsanlage, Lichtanlage überzeugend und erste Ausfahrt sehr angenehm. Da wir neben einem Elektroroller die Räder in der Heckgarage unseres Wohnmobils mit auf Reisen nehmen wollen, waren Gewicht und Dimension für uns die ausschlaggebenden Kaufkriterien. Und die sind für uns voll erfüllt. Tolles Produkt.

So my bike finally arrived. Shockingly bad build quality. The frame has gouges, paint is uneven, the components eg Allen bolts are really cheap. The frame also flexes a lot when riding. The battery life is poor and the lcd screen showing battery charge status is very inaccurate. There is no torque sensor so the electric motor is either on or off. Very very disappointed. Buyer beware.

I would give them 0 points if I could. I have received UCB (United City Bike) branded bike and my complaint is not about the delays in the delivery of the bike, it’s about false advertising made by UCB during Indiegogo campaign and the quality of the finished product.

Firstly, the bike is not engineered by in Switzerland by UCB, this is a Chinese made bike, and the Chinese manufacturer (CHANGZHOU GOLDEN AGES VEHICLE CO.,LTD) owns the patents to the bike components (patents are displayed on manufacturers website jauntybike.com/), UCB simply put their brand on jauntybike and are falsely marketing the bike as Swiss made wonder bike on Indiegogo and youtube. I don’t mind buying Chinese made products but at least UCB should be honest about it and tell the backers upfront that this is not Swiss engineered or Swiss made bike.

Prior to UCB Indiegogo campaign the Chinese manufacturer and other distributers have already been selling same exact bike, for example on Alibaba.com you can buy this bike under the brand of Song of Youth (CFD2) for $500. On Indiegogo UCB sold me this bike for $900 + shipping + import duties, others have paid even more. Also on Alibaba.com the distributor is promising to change the branding logo if someone places large enough order and that’s exactly what UCB has done. UCB are simply using Indiegogo to market a product made by someone else.

In their campaign they said that the bike is “lightest folding electric bike in the world only 12.5Kg” - this is a total lie I have weighted the bike and it’s 14.1kg. I’ve been told by UCB that 12.5Kg is the weight without the battery, - I have never heard anything more stupid. For example if I buy Tesla car should I measure the weight of that vehicle without the battery in the car?

On Indiegogo the bike was advertised as being waterproof. After I removed the bottom plastic cover from the bike there were no rubber gaskets on the bike, some of the wires were placed in a plastic bag and others were exposed. The battery in the seat post is also not properly sealed. You can see that the manufacturer has poor quality control because fenders were installed crooked and there are spots with chipped paint.

The most egregious lie yet is that UCB claimed that the bike would have a torque sensor, I got the bike and the bike has a cadence/speed sensor which costs $14 online, while true torque sensors cost $200-$300 dollars. The whole reason why I became a backer was because I thought the bike would have a torque sensor; if I knew that it didn’t, I would have bought something else. I was never told that this part was replaced by a cheaper part. Telling backers that the bike would come with a torque sensor was an egregious lie and a pure form of false advertising. I found out about this change only after I got the bike.

Shimano brakes were replaced by some Chinese made brakes. I was notified about this change 3-4 months after I became a backer. Also kick stand that was advertised (advertised as some innovative design) was replaced with a kickstand which is plastic stick that bends so it’s not holding the bike, the replacement kickstand is pretty much useless.

What they lie about:

1) 12.5 kg --> It weights 15 kg

2) 25 km/h (EU) or 32 km/h (US) --> 20 km/h with throttle, 25 km/h when paddling like mad (the bike has small wheels and no gear).

3) Swiss product and design --> It's a crappy Chinese bike from 2017 produced in China (Jaunty CFD) and just relabelled. If you order it directly you pay less than half.

4) 8Ah battery --> They officially downgraded it to 7Ah.

5) Shimano hydraulic disc brakes --> Noname brakes, not hydraulic

6) Torque sensor --> No torque sensor, instead you get a cheap cadence sensor. It just senses IF you are paddling but not HOW strong you are paddling. This is a big one because the bike does not behave like a bike since the electric assist is so flunky and kicks in with delay.

7) Patented innovative kickstand --> Was officially downgraded to some cheap standard kickstand.

8) Touch sensor display --> You get a cheap display which is locked, so you can not even change between mph and km/h.

9) Water proof --> No seal at all. Combined with the design of this bike, it is dangerous to drive when it is wet (water gets into the seat post).

10) EU version with throttle up to 6kmh for kickstart --> I am from the US, but they canceled the feature.

11) Shipping costs --> They asked me to pay an additional 450 USD for shipping, VAT and customs even though during the campaign they said it is included already.

They try to sensor everyone on Indiegogo who reveals this and put them on status "refund" so they cannot comment without actually refunding them.

They censor every critical comment under their youtube videos.

UCB is well aware of the scam and wants to fool new customers by preventing us, warning you. Hope you have read this before your order.

Dieses Unternehmen hat lediglich einen Briefkastensitz in der Schweiz.

Dirk Kochhan ist vermutlich der Einzige der die Kommentare beantwortet und alle anderen, die kritische Fragen stellen, löscht! Er weiss schon warum er über Crowdfunding verkauft, so muss er nichts erstatten. Kritisch hinterfragende Backer werden als "erstattet" markiert und so aus der Kampagne entfernt (Kommentieren nicht mehr möglich) - diese erhalten aber nie eine Erstattung.

Wenn man das überteuerte China Fahrrad mal nach einem Jahr erhält, hat man auch schon die ganzen Mängel am Hals:
- nicht wasserdicht (siehe Bilder Reddit)
- Beschleunigung nicht gut
- die 32kmh Version kommt nicht auf 32kmh, ausser man tretet wie ein Wilder mit
- Verarbeitungsqualität mangelhaft
- der Sattel rutscht ständig runter, billige Halterung (wiege 75kg).
- Treten ohne Motorunterstützung eine Qual, da zu viel Widerstand durch Motor.

Da UCB nun negative Kommentare hier löschen lässt, weil sie die Wahrheit nicht ans Licht kommen lassen wollen, informiert euch selber bevor ihr das Rad bestellt!

Leider kann man keine 0 Sterne vergeben. Das Unternehmen behauptet dieses Fahrrad erfunden zu haben und fährt eine Kampagne mit Crowdfunding. Geliefert werden soll aus China. Was für ein Zufall, dass es über Alibaba.com ein Fahrrad gleichen Aussehens und mit gleichen Komponenten zum halben Preis gibt in China entwickelt (Jauntybike).
Zum Glück ist es mir aufgefallen und ich habe direkt über Indiegogo ein Refunding erhalten.
Aber das Marketing von United City Bikes ist schon cool und verleitet einen darauf reinzufallen. VORSICHT!!!!

I did receive the One bike from UCB United City Bikes. I ordered a U3 which was downgraded in battery size and to cheaper brakes from Shimano to Nutt.
It was only after several emails and comments to UCB support Email that I was able to receive the bike and bag.
I am still waiting for an extra travel battery as are other customers.

It came with KPH on the speedometer
I asked several times through email and also on indigogo for this to be rectified to mph since I’m in USA.
I was told that this is not changeable and that I would have to just accept it.
The bike was stated to be waterproof
There are no gaskets on the battery connectors.
It was supposed to come with UCBs patented kickstand which is still being shown on the IGG site however it came with a cheap plastic kickstand instead.

My polite comments only asking for responses were removed from Indiegogo and I was removed as a backer from IGG so that I could not comment anymore.
I am still a backer as I have not received a travel battery that was ordered yet. They removed the travel battery from their IGG site now too
The bike is just a rebrand of Jaunty CFD2 or Song of Youth CFD 2 bike that is available for cheaper on eBay. UCB even had a Christmas sale in which the price was cheaper than original backers paid on IGG.
UCB has deleted any comments on their IGG, Facebook , and YouTube pages which point out problems with the shipping , the bike options, or other customer dissatisfaction issues.
The current reviews on their web site are not objective.

I did already send several Emails to UCB support. No response. I’m still waiting for a tracking number for my Air Travel battery which has not been received yet.

Update after they replied (since I can't reply to them):don't get fooled by their answer, they violated Indiegogo rules, they're just a reseller from Jauntybike/Golden Age Vehicles. They are making hundreds of customers fooled, delete their messages on every possible platform (except here since they can't), and refuse refund themselves. They could, but refuse. Nothing to see with Indiegogo (they'd loose IGG's comission on sales but would win legality and respect to their clients).

Worst company ever. Since they manage after sales this way, don’t buy.
I nicely asked for refund because my mobility is the worst for more than 5 months since I needed it after moving to a much further place. They refused once. I asked again with legitimate arguments and didn’t answer back. I sent respectful messages and shared my experience on Facebook for others. They deleted all my messages and blocked me (which is forbidden by Facebook rules since I didn’t use any bad word and insulted them).
I then sent a message to the CEO on linkedin (dirk kochhan if you want to do the same) asking for a proper conversation. He checked my profile, read my message, but didn’t even reply.
What kind of company does that? I have a company for 10 years and my sole goal is to make my client happy, even if that implies stopping a relationship with him (in that case refund). For those that received it, I’m worried about your after sales. And those who bought, ask with me for refund or don’t buy…

Leider geht es mir genauso wie alle es beschreiben. Ich habe mit Anzeige wegen Betrug gedroht, dann kam wurden hektisch mails versendet und mir noch mal mit Nachdruck versichert das jeder sein Rad bekommt. Von Rückerstattung leider keine rede. Blöderweise hat die Firma ihren Sitz in der Schweiz, da braucht man keine Anzeige stellen, hat keine Aussicht auf Erfolg . Ich habe keine Ahnung wie es weitergeht.

Achtung! Ich habe am 25.04.19 bestellt und bis heute nichts erhalten. Wie alle anderen hier schon schreiben... da stimmt etwas nicht!!! 🤨

Ich habe Anfang Juni 2019 ein Fahrrad bei UCB bestellt. Versprochen wurde mir eine Lieferung Ende August, und die Lieferung sollte aus einem EU Staat erfolgen. Bis heute, 23. Oktober 2019, ist kein Fahrrad bei mir angekommen. Auch musste ich vernehmen, dass aus China versendet wird. Das bedeutet, dass über 400 € Zoll und Steuern nachverlangt werden. Ich werde mich an meinen Anwalt wenden, um mein Geld wieder zurück zu erhalten.UCB hat für mich sämtliche Glaubwürdigkeit verloren.

Ich war extra fuer eine probefahrt nach frankfurt gefahren und begeistert von dem Rad und bestellte es. Die Lieferung wurde mit immer neuen absurden Begruendungen verzoegert. Ala man mir mitteillte das auf den Preis noch Mehrwertsteuer.einfuhrzoll umd antidumpingzoll zusaetzlich zu zahlen war wollte ich vom Kauf zuruecktreten was mir mit Verweis auf croedfunding verweigert wurde. Mit Hilfe von Visa und dem Chargebackverfahren habe ich mein Geld wiefer. Und amuesiere mich jetzt ueber die Newsletter und updates mit denen der neue Verzug fuer den Versand begruendet wird

Wow! I'm so glad I read this thread of reviews. I almost fell for their scam. I really wanted the product and company to be real. Thanks to everyone who left comments which saved me from $1200 USD.

I ordered a twin pack of the U3 model in July, expecting to get my bike at the end of August. Then I saw a comment of a US backer saying that he wouldn’t be getting the U3, and both the battery and components would be downgraded. I started inquiring about this on the website, and my comments were systematically deleted. I discovered that the bike was not a UCB design, but that of a Chinese company, and that UCB only added minor alterations to the model. After repeated censorship, I created a Facebook event to allow uncensored comments about experiences with UCB. At this point, they removed me from the campaign and issued a one-sided refund, so I could not post more info in the Indigogo page where they sell the One. I was one of the lucky ones, because It is common to see comments briefly posted on the page and then deleted, with people being denied a refund, and extorted for extra money. The product and the early bird discounts are so appealing, and it is so well marketed, but please don’t fall for this scam.

Hi. I have ordered and paid 899€ for an electric bike through Indiegogo from United City Bikes - a Swiss company - in June. Delivery was guaranteed in July from the owner (Dirk Kochhan) himself in a video. No additional costs were also guaranteed (screenshot is available) - they will assemble the bikes in the EU so there will be no extra costs and tax.

After four months of waiting - no bike was arrived - United City Bikes came up with a surprise. They send me an invoice, where taxes and customs fees happen to be 50% (!) of the bike price - and (only) after paying this I would get my bike. Will I be blackmailed?

As a result I asked for a cancellation and refund of the money since the order was not shipped, the rules have been changed and I'm not able to pay again, 422€.

Writing now them daily that I want a refund. Still yet,I get no answers anymore, instead, comments on Indiegogo and Facebook are deleted.

United City Bikes: I will still fight for my money.

UPDATE 09. Oct. 2019:
Another copy-and-past-message arrived me: "refunds aren't possible at this moment" - I should contact the customer service.
I did this a several times already.

NO refund because of Indiegogo policies and
they write me, that the money is paid to an agency and Indiegogo.
Are they running out of money now?

Ich habe die Crowdfunding-Kampagne auf Indiegogo unterstützt.

Dabei erwähnte der Hersteller, sie hätten Musterfahrräder an Reviewer verschicken lassen. Also bat ich sie, mir diese zu nennen.

Also nahm ich die Mühe auf mich und kontaktierte alle Reviewer, die United City Bikes mir nannte. Das Ergebnis war absolut klar. KEIN EINZIGER hatte jemals ein Musterrad erhalten. Nur einer hatte Kontakt per Mail, kam aber nie am Anrufbeantworter vorbei.
Deshalb habe ich United City Bikes auf der Kommentarseite der Indiegogo Kampagne konfrontiert und gefragt warum die Unterstützer diesbezüglich belogen wurden.

UCB hat mir SOFORT eine Rückerstattung gewährt, auch wenn ich nie danach gefragt habe. 5 Minuten später schickten sie mir eine private Mail:

(Übersetzt mit Google translate) "Da wir erkannt haben, dass Sie bei unserem Crowdfunding-Projekt sehr besorgt über alle möglichen Probleme zu sein scheinen, haben wir uns entschlossen, Ihr Leben für Sie einfacher und entspannter zu gestalten. 1. Ich habe nie um eine Rückerstattung gebeten, dies ist zu 100% ein Trotzreaktion gegen meine kritische Befragung. (Super Umgang mit Kunden!)

2. Der Grund für die Rückerstattung ist eindeutig ein anderer: Mein Kommentar ist für andere auf der Kampagne auf Indiegogo nicht mehr sichtbar, denn so konnte mich United City Bikes schlichtweg aus der Kampagne werfen.
Ein ganz einfacher, aber effektiver Weg um die unangenehmen Fragen, die die anderen Unterstützer sehen könnten, zu umgehen.

Ich habe bereits schon Kontakt, mit mindestens einer Person, der es gleich ergangen ist.

Egal ob jemals ein Bike ausgeliefert wird. United City Bikes hat absolut NULL Kundentransparenz.

Wer die Kampagne weiterhin verfolgt sieht eindeutig, dass die Verärgerung der Unterstützer absolut berechtigt ist. Man wird kaum über Neuerungen informiert, bis heute weiß keiner so richtig was momentan passiert, ob die Fahrräder auf dem Weg sind, wo sie sich befinden und ob sie überhaupt geliefert werden.

Zusätzlich wurden vor Kurzem die technischen Spezifikationen für die höchste Ausstattung (U3) einfach gestrichen. Und jetzt kommt die absolute Katastrophe: Die Unterstützer, die ein U3 bestellt hatten bekommen ungefragt ein Downgrade auf die schlechtere Version (U2). Und als "Kompensation" wird Ihnen ein kleiner Preisnachlass gewährt. Die Besteller des U3 haben KEINE Möglichkeit von Ihrem Kauf zurückzutreten und müssen eine Ware kaufen, die sie nicht bestellt hatten.
Ich wiederhole mich: Es wird Ware geliefert, die nie bestellt wurde. (Falls sie überhaupt geliefert wird)

Für mich ist die Sache klar. Wenn dies hier von jemandem gelesen wird, sollten Sie sich so schnell wie möglich an Ihren Anwalt wenden.

Like many others I ordered "The One" bike on Indiegogo, which was reasonably priced and promised to be shipped by July. This seemed plausible as they were already producing bikes. However, July came and went, then August and September. Finally they sent an email saying that the bikes were shipped, but what they mean is shipped from their factory in China to their distribution centres, so another 5-6 week wait.

To make things worse, their original statement was that all bikes to the EU would be assembled and sent within the EU to avoid high customs fees. Now they say that this isn't possible, and we have to stump up over 50% of the original cost in order to receive the bike. Some people may be OK with this, but I asked for a refund which they have refused.

UPDATE: I applied for a refund from my credit card company under the UK "Section 75" regulations, which was successful. I definitely recommend doing this if you paid with a UK credit card.

As for any potential buyers, please read all the reviews and buy something else! The bikes have finally started to arrive, but most people are not happy with them. Poor performance and controller issues (display locked to km/h) are common, and UCB are not doing anything about them. Given their track record for customer service, I would hate to have one of these bikes that develops a fault!
