Mentalwell provides online ADHD and autism assessments for children and adults, with short waiting times. ADHD assessments are carried out by GMC-registered psychiatrists, and medication titration appointments (finding the right medication and dose) by qualified prescribers. Autism assessments are carried out by a multi-disciplinary team of clinical psychologists and speech and language therapists. Choose private care or, for adult ADHD, NHS-funded care through Right to Choose.

Statutory Cooling off Period. Do not book assessments too quickly! Buyer beware!
Being impulsive (a symptom of my condition) I booked an adhd assessment with a complete care package on the site. I subsequently found that my private medical insurance also provided cover, so as there was a 14 day cooling off period I cancelled with Mentalwell. They stated that I would only be able to get a refund for the after care package and that they would hold the cost of the pre-assessment and assessment as I had booked an appointment within the 14 days. This despite the assessment being 5 days after my cancellation request.
I find the lack of clarity around the 14 day cancellation terms to be deliberate. Why would someone choose a date 2+ weeks in the future when earlier appointments are available?
I understand some costs are involved in servicing the pre-assessment but to withhold the whole cost of assessment for this is onerous.
Buyer beware I guess but not what I would expect from a provider of mental health services!

Our team works very hard to make early appointments available so that patients can be seen as quickly as possible. This involves reserving clinician time and beginning the pre-assessment clinical review shortly after a booking is made. For this reason, when an appointment is booked within the 14-day period, we are typically unable to cancel it at no cost once this preparation has begun.
In your case the pre-assessment clinical review had already been completed. Once we clarified the cancellation terms, and a clinician has been allocated for the session. We advised that you were welcome to keep your original appointment in place. You chose to proceed with cancellation under the policy instead, and a pro-rated refund was processed on the same day.
We genuinely aim to make our terms as clear and transparent as possible, and we’re sorry if any part of this felt unclear or unexpected. Your feedback is appreciated, and we will review our communication to ensure it is even clearer for future patients.

Validated and so pleased I didn't procrastinate any longer
Thank you MentalWell. You were fully prepared for something I have been building up to for the last year. I felt like I was dialling into a job interview, but within seconds I was fully at ease. Dr. Matthew was amazing. So easy to talk to, empathetic and made sense of everything I was describing. Guided the conversation, giving me space to speak when I felt ready. For the first time, the doubt and imposter-syndrome disappeared.
I don't know where the time went but I feel this session was a much needed validation and turning point for me going forward.
For anyone in doubt, I would go ahead and book your assessment. You will be seen by the most qualified professional psychiatrists and take a real deep dive. I appreciated that I was being observed for other conditions too and that if ADHD was not present, they would have been very honest and constructive about that, suggesting the correct path for help.

I was really impressed with the…in depth and thoroughness of my consultation
I was really impressed with the specialist that spoke with me . It was quite a lengthy consultation and it was quite uncomfortable talking about myself for three + hours but it was incredibly enlightening to make sense of my life . I’m 52 now and wish this service had been available to me thirty years ago .

Dr. Matthew was very understanding thorough and empathetic throughout the assessment. It felt like chatting to a friend and just explaining how you feel and given some clarity as to maybe why. Would 100% recommend skipping the long NHS queue even just for peace of mind.

Medication titration fail
I emailed regarding medication titration following a combined ADHD diagnosis for my child.
They insist that I get my child reassessed by them (already done by a consultant paediatric neurodevelopmental psychiatrist with Qb check as per NICE guidleines). I am not willing to subject my child to this process again.
I feel they are out to make as much money as possible.
Got 2 stars as they emailed back the same day.
My gut instinct tells me this is a money making

Exceptional experience!
Exceptional experience! Had an appointment within days and the paperwork prior to this was doable and not overbearing. I had my assessment with Dr. Sherleen who was attentive, relatable and extremely knowledgeable, she put me right at ease and made the whole experience positive by showing me that it’s about getting to know myself and was able to give me my diagnosis by the end of the assessment. Overall, I would recommend to anyone who’s seeking a private assessment.

Kindest experience I could have had!

ADHD assessment with Dr. Matthew K
I had my ADHD assessment with Matthew and I honestly couldn’t have wished for a better experience. From the very beginning, he made me feel comfortable, understood, and safe to open up. His empathy and insight were incredible — not only did he listen, but he truly got me.
What stood out most was how much he understood my thoughts and behaviours. He noticed things I wasn’t even aware of and reflected them back in such a caring, non-judgmental way.
I left the session feeling lighter, hopeful, and for the first time in a long time, understood. It was life-changing, and I’ll always be grateful. Matthew is outstanding at what he does, and I’d recommend him to absolutely anyone considering an assessment.
