Pet Insurance Australia has been very supportive as they really care about your Pet and provide on line help so you can talk to a vet any time. We have used this service and found it helpful and reassuring as they explain her condition . Pet Insurance is something that I took out but thought I would never have to claim and that was true until Lily turned 12 and I almost quit but the receptionist at our vet said don't quit your pet insurance as now is the time in your dog's life that things can go wrong and this was backed up by Pet Insurance Australia who said the same thing. I took their advice and I am so glad I did. And I am so glad I chose Pet Insurance Australia as they have been very supportive and help in any way they can..I would recommend them to anyone that needs good caring Pet Insurance

We have been extremely impressed by Pet Insurance Australia . We never thought we would need to use our cover as we had a healthy, happy dog . However, at age 9 our gorgeous Cavoodle developed an intestinal cancer . Having the comprehensive 80 percent cover meant we were able to access first class cancer care and 19 months later his intestinal cancer remains in remission . We have had every claim paid promptly which has reduced our stress and allowed us to extend our dogs life . I recommend this company to anyone considering pet insurance .

PIA contacted me following a recent claim and invited me to leave a review.

I’ve had cover for my dog Izzy for a number of years and have made multiple claims. Overall, I’ve found the claims process straightforward and I’ve had claims paid without too much difficulty.

There are a few areas that could be improved. An app would be useful, and because my vet doesn’t have a direct relationship with the insurer, I need to upload Izzy’s clinical history as well as the invoice with each claim. It would be good to see them expand their relationships with more veterinary clinics to make the process easier.

I’d also really like to see a better policy dashboard. It would be useful to be able to see, at a glance, which excesses have already been applied during the policy year and, probably even more importantly, how much has been claimed against routine care benefits and how much remains. At the moment, it can be difficult to keep track of this across multiple claims.

I’d also suggest being aware of the excess structure. You are not necessarily getting 80% back from every claim. The reimbursement is calculated after the applicable yearly excess and condition-based excess. This is clearly set out in the PDS, but it is worth understanding because it can substantially reduce what you receive back, particularly if your dog has more than one unrelated condition in the same policy year.

My other concern is the year-on-year premium increases as Izzy gets older. She is now 8, and while I appreciate that insurance generally becomes more expensive as pets age, I do worry about how affordable the policy will remain over the coming years.

I wouldn’t be without pet insurance. It has been extremely helpful when Izzy has needed treatment and has taken a lot of the financial stress out of some expensive veterinary care.

Overall, I’m giving 4 stars. The policy has done what I bought it to do and I’ve had a lot of claims paid over the years, so I’ve certainly had value from it. There are still some areas I’d like to see improved, particularly around excesses, policy visibility and future affordability, which is why I wouldn’t quite give it 5 stars.

Always quick and easy to make a claim which PIA process quite fast and with little to no hassle.

I am extremely frustrated by the lack of urgency in resolving a serious phone-routing issue.

Your 1800 043 552 number is currently being misdirected to my personal mobile phone. As a result, I am receiving hundreds of calls from your customers, causing significant disruption to my work and personal time.

I have already contacted the business directly to have this corrected, but the issue has continued FOR MONTHS!

A business should ensure its advertised phone numbers are correctly configured, particularly when an error is directing large volumes of customer calls to an unrelated person's private mobile.

I am posting this review because I need this issue investigated and resolved immediately. I will happily update the review once the incorrect call routing has been permanently fixed.

I have held pet insurance (2 policies) on my cats paying $27 and $28 per month for the 2 policies for over 12 months and never made a claim till now.
On Sunday the 9th of August 2026 one of my cats was in a lot of pain from a urinary tract infection requiring me to take him to the emergency animal hospital around 9pm. He was there for one and a half days.
The total bill for that time was $3852.36 which obviously was paid up front.
Now the shock. On the details of claim submitted it states:
1. Total benefit I received was $72.52
2. Maximum benefit limit reached for this condition. Benefits will restart upon policy renewal (about 10 months time).
3. 2 items RC07 (Total of $219.02) – Your policy does not provide cover for Consultation – EmergencyAfterhours.
What then am I paying pet insurance for?

Recently my treasured dog, Otis, was poisoned and required emergency care. He also required subsequent veterinary treatment. This was an extremely stressful time for the family as we wanted the best outcome for Otis but would not have been able to ensure the care he required with out Pet insurance. PIA made the process seem less and easy. Payment was prompt and the service was outstanding. Otis is on track for a full recovery.

Really happy with all communication and claims we've run through Pet Insurance Australia. It is a fast service and our vet is able to make the claim directly with them for us, taking away all the stress on trying to log a claim.

I have never been so grateful to have Pet Insurance. I have had nothing but wonderful and positive interactions with the staff, when needed, and the Gap-Only scheme is a godsend for our most recent situation. Luna (3 years old) will have KCS for the rest of her life and we could not have provided her the high level of acute care she needed to get this terrible condition under control without our insurance. I nearly died when I went to pay at the vet reception one day and it was $25!!

This was the first time in 5 years of holding PIA insurance that we made a claim. My dog had a biopsy on her ear and PIA responded very quickly and with minimal fuss to us during a worrying time. Our GAP-only (out-of-pocket fee) was very reasonable considering the procedure and tests. Happy we chose PIA five years ago.

PIA provides a great level of cover for my Frenchie and claims are nice and easy to make at the Vet with Gap Only payment.

We made the right choice when we decided to insure our pup with Pet Insurance Australia 11 years ago. He recently had a surgery to remove a growth from his tail. Our vet surgery submitted the claim and we received the PIA contribution to the cost (as per our policy) within a few days. An easy process.
