I bought the Singer tailor’s dummy as a gift, having watched the demonstration videos in advance. It is a lovely product in many respects, with excellent adjustability and overall build quality.

In use, however, pinning proved unusually difficult. Because the internal plastic structure sits very close behind the fabric, there is very little depth for pins to grip into, even when angled. While angled pinning is normal with most dress forms, in this case it makes accurate and secure pinning during fitting hard to achieve.

For anyone who relies on close, traditional pinning for garment fitting and draping, this is an important limitation.

I raised this with Singer and found customer service polite and professional, but we were left with a dummy that adjusts body shape beautifully yet does not allow garments to be pinned accurately.

My recommendation would be to confirm, within the 14-day returns window, that the pinning depth and resistance meet your needs.

A Black Friday / December Deal free gift set that came with the machine

The machine was unused – after comparing it with my wife’s existing sewing machine, we realised it didn’t really offer anything significantly different, so we decided to return it (along with the unopened free gifts).

Initially, I was told I would need to pay for the return and that the free gift set had to be returned as well, which created the impression there might even be two separate returns. On top of that, I discovered the “Enhanced Order Protection” doesn’t help at all with a normal change-of-mind return of an unused machine, which felt very misleading given the wording “covers all items on your order”.

I returned the order using their Evri link and paid £3.96 for the label. The sewing machine and associated free gifts were refunded, but at first the £7.99 Enhanced Order Protection was not refunded, even though I never used any of the extended 90-day/exchange benefits. At that point I was out £11.95 (protection + postage) and had no machine.

After I emailed again and explained the situation, the support team (Connor, Ticket ID NO43TD) agreed, as a gesture of goodwill, to refund the £7.99 Order Protection fee, which I appreciate. That leaves me only having paid the £3.96 return postage, and they did follow through promptly once I raised my concerns.

I still believe:

The way “Enhanced Order Protection – covers all items on your order” is presented at checkout is confusing and potentially misleading, because it doesn’t assist with standard returns and is easy to misunderstand.

The initial communication about returning the free gifts and the protection was poor and caused unnecessary hassle.

However, I also want to be fair and acknowledge that the company ultimately resolved the issue, refunded the Order Protection as a goodwill gesture, and processed the main refund correctly. For that reason, I’ve updated my rating from 1★ to 3★ – the experience was frustrating, but in the end they did the right thing.
