We have used Meaco dehumidifiers for many years and previously owned two 20L models, so I am very familiar with how these machines normally sound and operate.
I purchased a new Meaco 12L Low Energy dehumidifier from ../ Love Shopping Direct. Within approximately three minutes of operation, the brand-new machine developed an abnormal rattling, humming and whistling noise which was completely different from our previous Meaco machines. It also became unusually hot.
I reported the problem immediately on the day of delivery and sent video evidence via WeTransfer. What followed was extremely disappointing.
I sent three videos. Initially, I was told that the first WeTransfer contained only a photograph rather than a video, despite the transfer clearly identifying a video file. I subsequently received a WeTransfer notification confirming that another video had still not been downloaded and was about to expire. I am not prepared to pay to extend a transfer simply because the retailer has not downloaded the evidence I supplied.
Rather than concentrating on properly reviewing the evidence, I repeatedly received warnings that if their Returns Team later decided that “no fault” could be found, they would deduct £25 + VAT (£30) from my refund.
I exercised my short-term right to reject the appliance and requested a refund only, not a repair or replacement. After considerable correspondence, they eventually acknowledged this and arranged a Royal Mail home collection. I have also requested the written inspection/audit if they subsequently claim that no fault is present.
What concerns me most is the amount of correspondence required simply to return a brand-new appliance that developed an abnormal noise on its first day, while the video evidence I was repeatedly asked to provide was apparently not even downloaded.
I have now issued a Letter Before Action and reserved my rights regarding any deduction from my refund.
This experience is particularly disappointing because our previous experience with Meaco products had been very positive. The product itself may ultimately be diagnosed by their Returns Team, but the customer-service handling of this return has seriously damaged my confidence in this retailer.

Update: the retailer has now responded publicly by repeating its £25 + VAT ‘no fault found’ return-charge policy. That does not address my central concern: I supplied video evidence of the abnormal noise, yet at least one transfer was incorrectly described as a photograph and another was not downloaded before expiry. I am also disappointed that, after I disclosed that I am autistic and requested reasonable adjustments and clear, specific communication, the correspondence continued to focus repeatedly on the potential charge rather than the evidence I had supplied. The appliance is being returned for inspection, and I have requested the written inspection/audit if they subsequently claim that no fault is found.

Super happy with the dehumidifier. Collected its first 12L in only 8 hours, showing us that we have a much bigger humidity problem then we thought.
Also helped us dry the room after a carpet deep clean. The night mode is absolutely fine to have it going in your bedroom.

I ordered my Meaco Dry 123 12 litre capacity and it was delivered the next day. It was easy to set up and so far it has proved very efficient in drying my laundry and much cheaper than a tumble dryer!

Prompt delivery, very easy set up and great product. Starts working immediately, I can’t believe how much water it sucks out of the air. In the winter, I think it will help keep heating costs down because it warms up the room too. The mouldy smell is gone and the auto feature ensures the humidity level stays below the set point. Highly recommend.

My experience with Meaco has been appalling and I would strongly advise others to think carefully before purchasing from them.

I purchased a Meaco dehumidifier in February. By June, the unit had completely failed. I contacted their support team and spent time working through all of the troubleshooting steps they suggested, but the machine remained unusable.

I then emailed Meaco requesting a repair or replacement. Despite waiting over two months, I received no response whatsoever. During that period I sent two further emails, both of which were ignored. Given that I needed a working dehumidifier, I had no choice but to purchase a replacement machine elsewhere.

I subsequently called Meaco on four separate occasions. Each time I was promised a callback. Not once did anyone follow through.

When I finally received a response, Meaco said they would offer a refund but intended to deduct a 25% "usage fee" despite the product having failed after only a few months of ownership. I found this completely unacceptable. Only after challenging them did they agree to waive the deduction and provide a full refund.

The most disappointing aspect of this experience was not the faulty product. Products can fail. What matters is how a company responds when they do. Meaco's customer service was unresponsive, dismissive and extraordinarily difficult to deal with. It took months of chasing, repeated emails and multiple telephone calls to achieve an outcome that should have been straightforward.

I would never purchase from Meaco again and would advise prospective customers to consider whether they are willing to risk being left without support if something goes wrong.
